ENGINEERED TANK HEATING EQUIPMENT .• ... ... .; •• KOCH WHV BROWN FINTUBE? After analyzing your design parameters/ constraints, we'll recommend an engineered solution including one or more heater types sized and fabricated to meet your needs, a:firm price, timely delivery schedu1es and a guarantee of your satisfaction. Benefits of Brown Fintube Technology Our :fintube tank and line heaters offer cost and operational bene:fits for fabricators and end users. • Fintubes are more ef:ficient than bare tubes. Brown Fintube has been providing heat transfer equipment since 1939 to thousands of customers throughout the world. Our integrated facility in Houston, Texas ensures close coordination among research and engineering, sales, service and manufacturing functions. • Fintubes are compact, lighter weight, durable, reliable. The Brown Fintube Guarantee • Fintube heaters are less cost1y to insta1l and maintain than other types. Our guarantee of thermal, mechanical and hydraulic performance is in force for 18 months after shipment or 12 months after startup, whichever occurs :first When it is Brown Fintube, it is also quality materials, welding and fabrication to ensure the best implementation of the latest technology. • Fintube heaters minirnize sediment accumu1ation. Compared to bare pipes, Brown Fintube tank heaters induce stronger thermal currents within the tank because oj their concentrated fintube heating surjace. Product adjacent to the fintube is heated and nses rapidly due to its lowered sjJecijic gravity, creating a thermal siphon ejject. 1Jlis in turn, contributes to a higher rate ojheat transjer. In addition, sedimentation is minimized because the tank contents are agitated and particles are kept in suspension. As a result, heating surjaces tend to be "sel!cleaning,)) and tank bottom sludge is reduced. Comparison of Thermal Siphon Effect in Tank Brown Fintube WHV FINTUBE HEATERS? Up to 12 Times the Heat Transfer Area of Bare Pipe/Tubes • Fewer fintubes are required for equiva1ent heat transfer. Lower Capital Cost • Extended (fin) surface is less expensive than equiva1ent primary (bare) surface. • Smaller and lighter package. • Less weight and size requires less support and eases installation. Low Skin Temperature • Easy installation. Less field welding required than bare coils. • Reduces fouling due to colring, carbonization and polymerization. Lower Maintenance Cost • Reduces corrosion and scaling. • More durable construction. Safe for Product • Heater rninirnizes discoloration or degradation ofproduct. • Can be used in heat-sensitive products such as light hydrocarbons, vegetable oils, syrups and lube oils. • Off-the-:floor design expedites tank cleaning. • Individua1 unit isolation possible with appropriate va1ving. • Reduced mean time between tank cleanings (MTBTC). • Fewel- welds inside the tank mean fewer leaks. Less Product Displacement • Volume-to-heat transfer surface ratios are low. • SUCTION AND LINE HEATERS Brown Fintube manufactures two types of fintube heaters for suction and in-line heating. The suction heater flange mounts through a tank manway. The in-line heater can be installed anywhere in the product pipew1e on either the suction (usually) or discharge side of the pump. Both types utilize bundled fintube technology and share a number of common structural elements. ~ ~~ Open Ended Shell The Suction Heater The suction heater lowers pumping costs by reducing the viscosity of product as it is discharged from the tank. This is usually far less expensive than heating the tank's entire contents to the desired exit temperature. An optional isolation valve can be fitted to seal off the fintube bundle from the tank contents for easy inspection and maintenance. The entire bundle is removable when the valve is closed without having to empty the tank's contents. ~ ~ ~ The Line Heater .' ,~ The in-line heater can serve the same functions as the suction heater although it is totally exteri r to and separate from the tanl<:. When valved on the inlet side, it can be removed from the line for any reason, including relocation to a different service, without draining the tank. A single line heater can also service multiple tanks. , Brown Fintube HOWWEDOIT I Our proprietary resistance welding process produces a permanent :fin-to-tube weld that actually is stronger than the :finmeta1 itself. It assures no air gaps or trapped dirt or flux that can diminish :finefficiency and dw"ability. The expansion/ contraction from repeated heating/ cooling cycles will not separate :finfrom tube. The :fins reinforce the tube giving strength, durability and long life to the entire assembly. Destructive "pull" tests have shown :finbeing destroyed before weld separation. ~ זank Manway / זank Liquid Outlet Nozzle Mounting Flange Heating Medium Inlet Nozzle I יי Vent COu_p_lin g-n- _~_ Drain Coupling Heating Medium Outlet Nozzle Design Flexibility Standard tube sizes range from 3/4" to 3" and :fin height from 3/8" to 11/2". Design temperatures and pressures vary per customer needs. Materials are avai1able in most weldable alloys. VERTICAL TANK HEATERS Brown Fintube tank heaters feature off-the-floor design which sirnpli:fies tank maintenance and cleaning during product changeover. The tank f100r is free of piping and easily accessible. The verti<;:a1design produces strong therma1 currents and efficient heating in tanks of every description. Its header design insures uniform steam distribution and reduced irnpingement-erosion problems. Portable Steam Immersion Heaters Easily handled, these heaters are designed to heat the contents of tank cars and tank trucks. The reduction of viscosity irnproves f10wand great1y speeds up emptying of the tanks. O@~ The number, size and placement 01vertical tank heaters varies considerably with tank volume and product. Manijolds can be arranged inside or outside the tank in individual or collective co.njigurations. A WIDE SELECTION Brown Fintuhe tank heaters are of the interna1 type that typica11yuse steam or hot oil as the heating medium. They are available in a wide variety of styles which singly 01-in multiples suit most applications. Either solid or perforated longitudina1 fintubes al-e used as dictated by the application. Various meta1s (C.S., S.S., Nickel, etc.) are available. When standard materials, styles/sizes don't meet your requirements, we'll customize a design or size just for your conditions. TYPICAL LOADING/UNLOADING APPLICATIONS Brown Fintube HORIZONTAL TANK HEATERS Serpentine Heaters HL Heaters The serpentine heater utilizes hot oil or other suitable heat transfer fluid as the heating mediurn. The series flow con:figuration increases the velocity of the liquid to effect higher heat transfer rates and provide a cleaner --~~ operation with no plugging. Standing only 10" high, these heaters are ideal for working day tanks or floating roof tanks. Where low liquid levels may be encountered, their perforated longitudinal fintubes increase mixing action, maintain high heat transfer rates, and prevent product stratification. . . :./".....--- -.~~.:~~~~.; ~_.~~;::~~.. .. /., ~. ~--:.~::::\ "'. Bayonet Heaters The bayonet tank heater is provided with a mounting flange which is bolted to the side of the tank for ease of insertion and removal. Heating medium connections are external to the tank. Perforated Fintubes Custom Tank Heaters Brown Fintube can custom design and manufacture tank heaters for special applications, specific operating requirements, or unusual vessel or tank con:figurations. ASME Section vm, Division 1 code stamp heaters are available when required. All horizontal tank heaters are designed with perforated fintubes. The perforations permit better heat distribution. • Heated product rises through the perforations from the lower side of the heater so that maximurn product agitation and heat transfer are achieved.
