This converted 18th century farm surrounded by
Staffordshire countryside will make an ideal venue for
a memorable evening, which will include a hog roast
and disco.
Well done! We are very proud of you.
He’s behind you!
On the Thursday before Christmas almost one
hundred academy students went to see a
swashbuckling performance of Peter Pan at the
Lyceum Theatre in Crewe.
Amongst the cast were Eastender’s actor Adam
Woodyatt and the Grumbleweeds.
The visit was a fantastic success with lots of giggles,
popcorn and even a giant crocodile!
The students were a
credit to the academy,
with one member of
the audience stating
‘Your students have
made this afternoon for
us; thank you.’
Tempest Photography will also be there to capture
the wonderful outfits and take both individual and
friendship group photographs for £6.50 each.
The cost per student is £30 which covers hire of the
venue, food, disco, balloon decorations and
transport.
Students can use their Vivo rewards to pay towards
their ticket. Alternatively part or full payments can be
made via ParentPay.
Any Year 11 students wishing to attend need to
complete the consent form and return it to the Admin
Office as soon as possible.
Attendance
Congratulations to over 400 students at the
academy who achieved 100% attendance during
the month of December 2013. All
of these students were presented
with a selection box during our
Celebration assemblies on Friday
20th December.
The academy is keen to continue its high
attendance record in 2014 and new lateness
procedures have recently been introduced. Please
see Personal Tutors for more details.

London Visit
After last year's successful visit to London the English
Department have decided to return! Last year students
saw Buckingham Palace, the Science museum, Covent
Garden and many more of the spectacular sights of
London. The visit to Harry Potter studios and the theatre visit
of 'War Horse' were particularly memorable.
This year they will be going to see many of the brilliant sights
of
London,
including
Shakespeare's Globe theatre
and Planet Hollywood. They will
also
be
attending
a
performance of 'Les Miserables’,
a musical recently voted the
best musical of all time.
Do not miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity! The
visit will take place in July and costs £140, which includes a
night in a London hotel, on top of everything else
mentioned.
If you would like to attend please ask Mr Hendley for further
information and ensure you get your deposit of £50
(payable via ParentPay) and your reply slip in by 17th
January.
Takeaway Maths
One Year 7 Maths group have been particularly busy over
Christmas completing some ‘foodie’ themed homework.
Mrs Godwin gave her class, 7H, a takeaway menu with
different starter, main and dessert activities based on a
famous Mathematician of their choice.
Students did a wonderful job of creating a variety of
presentations, articles, news videos, puppets and much
more.
Maths Puzzle
Here is this week’s puzzle:
Weighing the baby at the clinic was a problem.
The baby would not keep still and caused the
scales to wobble. So I held the baby and stood
on the scales while the nurse read off 78kg. Then
the nurse held the baby while I read off 69kg.
Finally, I held the nurse while the baby read off
137kg. What was the combined weight of all
three?
