Summer 2016 Dear Parents: This past year flew by and it's hard to believe that we are already well into summer break! Even though classes are over for the year, Chapelle’s campus is always bustling with activity. Summer Enrichment was a wonderful bonding experience for our new students, and we are currently in our last week of a fun and successful Summer Camp. The Administration has been hard at work preparing for a fantastic 2016-17 school year! The scheduling process for next school year is complete and your daughter's schedule, summer reading books, and required textbooks are now available on RenWeb. If you believe there is an issue with your daughter's schedule, please contact Mrs. Jessica Reeg as soon as possible. Please note that due to the complexity of the scheduling process, requests for elective changes or teacher requests cannot be accommodated; however, issues with core classes may be addressed. We have a few new additions to our Administration for the 2016-17 school year and I ask that you help me in giving them a huge Chapelle welcome! Mr. Stephen Hunyadi will be our new Assistant Principal of Academics; Mrs. Katherine Robinson will serve as our Dean of Students; and Mr. Dale LaCour will be our Director of Athletics. All three bring vast experience and a new, exciting perspective to our school and they look forward to meeting everyone soon. The upcoming school year promises to be an exciting time at Chapelle as we continue our timehonored traditions and create new ones. We are excited about the many wonderful things to come. We all wish you a restful and relaxing summer! Remembering Deus Providebit…God will Provide, Leila Benoit Principal Summer Office Hours June: Monday—Friday 8:00am-3:00pm July: Monday—Thursday 9:00am-2:00pm Summer Mailing Please check your mailboxes in early July for an important summer mailing with lots of information about Check-In Day and the 2016-17 school year. Bus Service Update As previously announced, our school hours for the 2016-17 school year will be 8:00am-3:00pm. We have been in negotiations with Jefferson Parish for quite some time to see if bus service would still be possible with our new hours; however, we have recently been informed that they will not be able to accommodate these hours. We have looked into private bus service, but it is cost prohibitive at this time. We realize that not having bus service may be an inconvenience to those families who have relied on this service, but we are doing everything we can to put a plan into place to ease this transition. We are in the process of setting up a carpool system whereby families can use a link on our website to enter their name and location and be matched with other families in their area who are interested in carpooling. This should be up and running by mid-July. We will also provide supervision on campus in the library from 6:30am-4:00pm on regular school days. As has been discussed for well over a year, the decision to start school at a later time is in the best interest of our students, as educational research continues to show. Campus Ministry Notes Prayer for Summer: Lord, help me to rest awhile in the cooling shade of your presence. Slow down my restless heart and fill me with gentle compassion for all your people. Amen. 2015-16 Confirmations Congratulations to the following juniors on the sacrament of confirmation! Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol. Natalie and her family are very excited about this opportunity to represent Chapelle. Congratulations to our Chipmunk artist! Welcome to the Chapelle Family! Deus Providebit, Shari DeVille and Angelle Verbois Parents’ Club Co-Presidents Literary Art Projects Students in Mrs. Nezha Whitecotton’s French classes had fun completing creative projects using French conjugated verbs. Students also had to translate their favorite childhood books into French and create a 3D object that illustrated the narrative. Teacher of the Year Finalist English Teacher Christina Taix was selected as a finalist in Nola Baby & Family magazine's 2016 Teacher of the Year contest! Mrs. Taix has taught Dynamics of Effective Study, 8th Grade Reading, 8th Grade English, English I, English III, English V, Newspaper, and Yearbook here at Chapelle. Christina Taix is passionate about finding new ways to engage her students, remarking: “If we stand still, we cannot take the students where they need to go; education is constantly in motion." Christina inspires her students to succeed by encouraging them to alter their mindsets about the work they do. From the first day of class, she teaches her girls that they must constantly challenge themselves. Mrs. Taix lets her students know that she is also constantly learning new things, and she loves to share her discoveries with them. She is a lifelong learner whose mind is always working to solve a puzzle. As a teacher, Christina Taix’s drive, curiosity, and tenacity inspire her students to believe in themselves, to never stop learning, and to rise to the challenge and achieve their goals.
