Heather and Chris
Swann have been named
Mr. and Mrs. Manchester
by Manchester Times’
readers.
“Manchester is special to us because this
is where we wanted
to raise or two boys
in the way we were
raised,” said Heather.
“Manchester has good,
small town family values and many family
ties.”
Chris attended East
Coffee
Elementary
and Coffee County
Middle School. Heather
attended
College
Street Elementary and
Westwood Junior High.
Both attended Coffee
County Central High
School. Chris is a 1991
graduate and Heather is
a 1987 graduate. Both
of their families still
reside in Manchester.
“Our two boys attend
Westwood Elementary
School,” she said. “Will,
our oldest, is 11 and
Jordan is eight. Both
enjoy basketball and
soccer.”
Chris works at
Roberts Nissan in the
sales department and
Heather is the office
manager at Dr. Jay
Trusslers’ office.
The Swanns are
members of Summitville
United
Methodist
Church, the church they
were united together as
husband and wife 14
years ago. They enjoy
camping with their children, friends and family
members. The couple
also enjoys watching
their boys play sports
in the summer.
The Swanns are distributers for a homebased business that
allows them more time
with their family and
what Heather describes
as a “sense of accomplishment that we have
achieved together --not
like at separate jobs.”
The couple plans to
stay in Manchester and
raise their children and
Heather said she hopes
their children will one
day do the same.
“We both feel that
being Mr. and Mrs.
Manchester is a fortunate title,” said Heather.
“It’s a cool way for
the Manchester Times
to allow the people to
voice an opinion and
vote for their favorites.
I will say I was surprised when a friend
asked me to vote for
her and when I pulled
up the ballot our names
were on the ballot also
… But what a nice surprise to win.”

Mark Yother, or
“Yogi” as he is more
popularly
known,
has
been
named
Manchester’s Finest
Police Officer by
the readers of the
Manchester Times.
Yother,
a
28
year veteran of the
Manchester
Police
Department, said he
was honored.
“It’s a real honor,”
said Yother, who
currently serves as
chief of detectives for
MPD. “There are a lot
of really good people that
work at the PD and I have
to say it has been an honor
to serve Manchester for the

Yother and his wife,
Susan Holt Yother, grew
up in Manchester before
moving to Cookeville after
they were married.
Yother said they
moved back after
two years so he could
work for the police
department.
“I
started
in
1982 and served as
a uniform officer for
a few years before
becoming a detective,”
said Yother.
“Manchester was
a wonderful place to
grow up and raise our
family. It is my hope
that I can continue to
help keep Manchester a
safe place for everyone.”

selected Stephen Wooten
as Manchester’s Finest
Fireman.
Wooten, a nine year
veteran of the Manchester
Fire Department and
10 year veteran of the
profession, said he didn’t
expect it.
“It feels good and
it’s a real honor,” said
Wooten, who served as
a New Union Volunteer
Firefighter prior to joining
the MFD nine years ago.
“I didn’t expect it at all.”
Wooten said he plans to
stay with the fire department
until they “wheel him out the
door.”

said
his
willingness to continue his
firefighting education and
learn from his peers makes
him an elite firefighter.
“I’m always willing
to go to school and learn
something new,” he said.
“I’m always anxious to

job and pass it on to other
guys.”
Wooten said he had
no clue why readers
selected him as the finest
fireman out of 32 total
city firefighters.
“There are 32 of
us,” he said. “But I just
want to thank everyone
for supporting me and
the

Fire
Department.”

Dana
Morris
found out she had been
named Manchester’s Finest
Principal by the readers of the
Manchester Times, she didn’t
take much credit. She gave it all
to everyone else.
Morris, the principal at
Westwood Junior High School,
said she wouldn’t be where
she is if it weren’t for former
principals taking chances on
her.
“Mr. Roy Bush, principal at
Westwood Elementary, took a
chance hiring me to teach under
his guidance,” Morris explained.
“I have often laughed, saying
that he assigned two mentors
for me, knowing one wouldn’t
be enough. Mrs. Liz Smith and
Mrs. Anna Rose Morton were
so patient and knowledgeable. I

Morris has spent 21 years
with the Manchester City
School system, and has spent
time at all three schools in some
capacity.
She taught at Westwood
Elementary before moving
to Westwood Junior High as
a teacher. She then moved to

Rita Young has been
named Manchester’s Finest
High School Teacher by
the Manchester Times’
readers.
This is Young’s 40th year
as a teacher. She began in
the 1969-1970 school year.
“It has been a wonderful experience in my life,”
she said. “The reward of
teaching does not come
with the paycheck. The
reward of teaching comes
from seeing young teenagers grow from young people to mature, successful
men and women who are
now productive leaders in
our community.”

Brenda has worked at

the rest of my professional career,” he said.
When asked what he
felt when he found out he
was named Manchester’s
Finest, he said, “This is
pretty awesome. I love
Jason McDonough
my profession and I’m
very proud to be awarded
this honor.”
McDonough said he
tries to listen to students
and find out what interests them.
“I use that to create
lessons they will understand, so that it will hold
their attention,” he said
of his way of teaching. “I
try to get my students to
open up to the class and
feel comfortable sharing their ideas and opinions.”
McDonough said he
feels very fortunate to
have grown up, graduated from high school
and to now be teaching
in Coffee County.
“I’m happy to serve
the community that has
given me so much,” he
said. “Thank you for this
