DB Phase I - EatAtPR
University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus Electrical and Computer Engineering Department EatAtPR – Project Phase 1 Group Members: Gabriel Martinez Erik Santiago Alberto Espada September 23, 2010 I C O M 5 0 1 6 - 0 3 6 ‘10 Phase 1 Proposed Projects: 1. “DormRUM” – Gabriel Martinez Gabriel’s idea came from the hassle that is finding appropriate housing when starting college, and moving while in college. DormRUM would provide a listing where students can find housing they can afford and better fit their needs. 2. “eJunk” – Alberto Espada Alberto was motivated to build this project because it would be nice to have an electronic way to see what parts or cars are available at Junkers without the need to go physically to the Junker to look for the part. Every Junker would be able to upload parts, or cars with pictures and prices for their inventory. It would be like an auto part online but for used (junk) parts. 3. “Route” – Erik Santiago Recently, Erik was planning on traveling throughout the East Coast of the United States. He did his reservation with Travelocity, but kept in mind how useful it could be to build a system used for tailoring trips to users’ needs. Our Project: “EatAtPR: Puerto Rico Restaurants” As suggested, we will work to build a web-based system in which users will be able to search restaurants using various criteria. Site visitors will have the option to rate restaurants they have visited recently using a custom rate system. They will also be able to write a review/comment on their visit to any particular restaurant. Users will be able to see other users’ comments and ratings and look for the top rating restaurants. Lastly, Restaurant owners will have the option to register their restaurant for users to view and rate. Similar Systems: Site www.sal.pr www.restaurantsinpr.com Advantages 1. Mobile application to search on-the-go 2. Recipes by restaurant chefs for site visitors to use. 3. Written reviews by restaurant goers. 1. Forum where users can suggest for other users. 2. Keeps statistics of the forum. 3. Search by menu item. 1. 2. 3. 1. 2. 3. www.puertorico.com/resta urants 1. Owners can add their establishments. 2. Reviews include facilities, such as kids’ areas. 3. Can print/email review page. 1. 2. 3. Disadvantages Pages are too crowded. Bottom site-navigation menu is very hard to follow. Registration requires unnecessary information for the nature of the website. Forum is open-ended. Topics other than restaurant are also discussed. Reviews are not currently available. The site clearly has issues moderating posts. Navigation is not intuitive. Does not provide for users to rate/review. Only provides a search by location Photos Restaurants in PR Sal.pr PuertoRico.com/restaurants
