Friday 5 February 2016
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing this having just watched the fantastic production Our Day Out. It was a delight to be in the audience for
such a spirited and enjoyable performance and huge credit must go to the very talented, largely Key Stage 3 cast as
well as to Mrs Dever and Mrs House-Lee, who have given up hours to rehearsal and supporting the cast. At the same
time, our Senior Students have been working very hard to promote Rag Week by leading assemblies and organising
key events, which look set to be a great success and to raise a lot of money for our chosen charity this year, the
Meningitis Research Foundation. Please do furnish your daughter with some small change next week so they can
attend the pantomime, Teachers’ Top of the Pops and Teacher Dodgeball, among many other things!
It has been a continuing pleasure to meet with Year 11 students for their Sixth Form meetings and it has been
encouraging to hear how many students have already embarked upon a revision programme. We have started
working with students in tutor time and in PSHCE on revision techniques and, on Tuesday 1 March, we will be running
an evening for parents of Year 11 students to help you help your daughter throughout this period leading up to the
exams. Further information will be coming to you shortly.
Finally, it is lovely to share with you that we have been awarded the Engagement Gold Certificate 2015 by STEM
SurreyBerkshire. This organisation’s purpose is to promote a passion for science, technology and engineering among
young people. The citation on our award states:
“Rosebery School has been involved with a number of STEM Ambassadors over the past year, but we also
wanted to recognise the deep level of engagement the school shows across departments and age groups
in STEM activities. Rosebery School is one of only 17 schools in the region that we have chosen to recognise
with this Gold Certificate, and this is largely due to the dedicated commitment shown by your staff towards
enriching students’ experiences and raising their aspirations.”
A great way to end the week! Have a lovely weekend.

Sports Ambassadors 2016
The Year 9 Sports Ambassadors completed a workshop with our Sky Sports ‘living for Sport’ Ambassador Hannah
Beharry. Hannah has represented England and Great Britain in boxing, spending nine years at number one in the UK
and is a two times European medallist. Hannah spent the morning with our 18 Sports Ambassadors, discovering why
they applied to be an ambassador and what their role is in school. Students were then put through their paces, with
a series of fitness tests, which saw Molly Chartres perform a plank for seven minutes. Students are aiming to improve
their scores for when Hannah visits next time.
Our Sports Ambassadors are currently
completing a survey within each year
group to see how many students are
involved in sport both inside and outside
of school. After Easter they will be
preparing to run their own sports club
for Years 7 and 8.
A Level PE - Exercise Physiology Workshop
On Friday 29 January, sixteen AS and A Level PE students attended an Exercise
Physiology Workshop at the Surrey Human Performance Institute, at the Surrey
Sports Park in Guildford. They were able to run a VO2max test, with Lucy Bean

completing the test, who exceeded the expected level for her age. Following this, the students completed a series of
tests looking at body composition and maximum strength.
A note from the Directors:
“Rosebery students have again excelled in their enthusiasm and
commitment to our School Production. They were brilliant during
the rehearsal process and worked tirelessly to produce what we
hope was a funny yet poignant production. All the cast, regardless
of role size or line allocation, approached their role with creativity
and professionalism, plus a great deal of humour as they perfected
their northern accents!
Undertaking a production in the winter months is always a challenge
due to the unpredictable weather and dark evenings after rehearsals, but our students more than rose to this
challenge, often juggling rehearsals with homework and other extra- curricular activities, but always with energy and
positivity (photos below).
We have hugely enjoyed working with this talented group of students; they are a credit to our school and should be
extremely proud of all their achievements both onstage and backstage.
The production company would very much like to thank the staff, parents and friends who have supported us in our
endeavours to make the production a successful and memorable experience.”

Spring Concert Tuesday 22 March, 7pm – School Hall
On Wednesday 2 March, the Years 8 and 9 Concert is an opportunity for students in Years 8 and 9 to perform to
parents and their peers. This is open to all Year 8 and 9 students and there is a sign-up sheet in the Music Department

Singers, Orchestra, Young Voices, Junior Band, Big Band, and many more. Tickets will be available through ParentPay
