2016 Sound Wave Symposium - Rady Children`s Hospital

OBJECTIVES
FACULTY
It is estimated that genetic disorders account for approximately
50-60 percent of the cases of hearing loss identified at
birth. More than 70 genes which cause hereditary hearing loss
have been identified.
Powerful new genome sequencing
technologies are making it easier to access genomic information
allowing us to appropriately use this information to improve
health and prevent disease in infants and children. With our
knowledge of hearing loss-based genomics in the infancy stage,
further advances in genomic sequencing have the potential to
diagnose a vast number of disorders at birth. Ultimately, we can
hope to prevent or lessen the effects of mutations in these genes
that affect hearing, cancer, autism and other disorders.
Our speakers will give a unique prospective on the impact
genetics play in many of the lives of the children we see.
Amplification strategies to address specific hereditary hearing
disorders that lead to atresia/microtia and single-sided deafness
will be provided. In addition, relevant case histories will be
presented. Throughout, connections beyond the audiogram will
be explored.

Cancellations: It is the goal of Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego to not cancel
scheduled education courses; however, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule
any course due to low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances. Courses will be
cancelled at least 48 hours in advance. Registered participants will be notified by
phone or email. Full refund of course fee/deposit will be issued if class is cancelled by
Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego.
Refunds: If the participant decides to cancel, Rady Children's Hospital - San Diego
must be notified at least 48 hours in advance (excluding weekends) prior to the date
of the class. Full refund of course fee less 20% administrative fee will be mailed if
cancellation was made within 48 hours of the originally scheduled class. No refund
will be issued if registration was cancelled less than 48 hours or if “no show.”

This course is designed for audiologists and LSLS professionals in all practice settings who treat pediatric as well as adult populations.
