Porsche Season is finally here... Unfortunately,
I cannot participate. The reason, I must tell
you, faithful reader, is that I’ve seen the [green]
light. Our cars, while being beautiful, powerful
engineering marvels are simply not good for the
environment. I’ve struggled with this concept
for a long time and have finally done something
about it. I’ve exchanged my German P-Cars and
purchased a Japanese P-Car, the Prius. Now
before you call me a traitor, please understand
that I’m only doing this because if I don’t, then I
am an enviro-hater, and I am far too thin-skinned
to handle that kind of ridicule... There are some
great features to enviro-friendly cars. They get
great mileage. They have great dash graphics,
including a little plant that confirms that you are
in tune with Mother Earth. They make great use
of an iconic shape - the jellybean. They allow
the driver to feel far superior as they get passed
by everything with more than 95 hp. They give
you huge street-cred at cocktail parties. They let
you judge everyone driving a sports car or SUV.
They let everyone know you care more than
anyone else... That said, Happy April Fool’s Day!!!
March was a fun, yet still chilly month... It kicked
off with our first ladies-only event at the Narcisi
Winery. As there were no arrests reported, I
assume it was a great event or that there was a
cover up to rival the disappearing Malaysian jet...
With Lisa Malobicky as our Social Chair, I know
there will be more events for just the girls... The
Sewickley Car Store hosted a terrific event where
noted hot shoe Ross Bentley spoke to our rabid
trackies about how to get around the curves
a little more quickly... Thanks as always to KC
and the Car Store band for their generosity...
The monthly business meeting happened at
Fowler Automotive and saw the usual suspects
plus some new members too. Great place.
You should stop by. As always, YOU and YOUR
input are ALWAYS welcome at the monthly
meeting... Nico Rosberg won the first F1 race

It’s beginning to unfold. Warmer weather and
wonderful cars, events and all of the people.
Take a moment to sketch out your Porsche
schedule. You don’t want to miss anything this
year. The club is growing and new people are
participating at every event. I challenge you to
try something you’ve never tried before on the
calendar. Try a driving event or a cruise. Just
get out and meet some others with the same
car affliction you have. You’ll be very happy you
did.
As always, I am proud to be a part of such a
great club. The cars bring us together, but the
people are what keep us coming back. See you
at the next event.

Shotgun!
by Scott Ishler, ARPCA Vice President
Ever have the feeling you are missing something? The eerie feeling “something just does
not feel right”… but cannot pin down. I get that
feeling twice a year: right now and mid October.
In mid October the feeling comprises a mix of
emotions: joy of crisp air, cool nights and mostly sunny warm days. Plus a dreaded thought
of how long will this last before I have to call
Duane at Sewickley and schedule one final oil
change before tucking my car away in the garage who knows how long.
Fortunately, we are at the polar end of that
spectrum currently. However, something is still
amiss.
Some fill this void trolling ebay, autotrader.
com, Porscheusa.com and other various car sites
searching for a new or new to them P-car. Others have already made a purchase seizing upon
‘winter prices’ and, much to the dismay of significant others, are arduously waging the aged
battle: “one never sells a beloved Porsche… you
can only add a companion Porsche to the collection”. Congrats to those of you in this camp
and soon enough you can share your purchase
in person… vacating the camp chair you’ve patiently occupied
perched next to your new gaSGK-954 RaceCar Ads_02-ARPCA.pdf
rage co-occupant. Others fill the void research-

ing mods, suspensions, tires, new wheels or a
new tool to deploy 3 times this summer and
probably none next.
Not nearly enough though plan out a season
full of P-car trips… short or far. Obviously we
each enjoy our vehicles immensely. Thus why
we joined a car club… once we’re here it’s
about the people. And we always enjoy taking
a trip, short or far, in our P-cars. But, I’m always
amazed at how infrequently people will take
their P-car on a trip. Sure some models limit the
number of occupants but if you can fit everyone
in comfortably, I urge you this summer to take
the P-car. They give you a whole new perspective while on the road. And more than occasionally tempting you to find a back way which takes
you 50 miles to go just 10.
Nothing confirms the driving season in my
mind other than the first fill-up of the season.
Knowing full well it’s not just a teaser warm
day or two but we have now had the cars out
of hibernation long enough to go some serious
distance. As such, a complete re-fueling is required. A-Ha! That’s my missing link… it’s not
officially driving season until I have one full tank
thru
the system.
I hope you have yours sooner

Lederhosen
by Cindy Monyok, Rundschau Editor
April is National Car Care Month. I have to admit that means nothing to me! I could care less
if our Porsche is clean or not but Jason spends
hours tending to his car. At first, I was jealous
thinking he was hiding out in the garage to
slowly get out of chores but came to realize that
he also does this when I am not home.
I thought adding carpet in the garage to park
his car on was crazy. I thought he was losing his
mind. Actually, it gets crazier around this time
of year. He sits on the floor cleaning his brake
calipers with a toothbrush. I don’t know about
you but I brush my teeth with a toothbrush!
I am slowly missing my bath towels because I
really purchased those Ralph Lauren towels to
wipe his car down. Maybe he could use some
Walmart towels next time but that would be to
easy and thrifty. He doesn’t want to scratch the
paint with junkie towels! Geez come on people!
He cleans parts of his car that no other human
being would ever see. I don’t fully understand
why he does this but it seems to be the norm.
He stocks up his garage with cleaners, rags, and
beer. If you are stopping by, please bring Natural Light. Yes, you read that right. The basic essentials to any garage. Friends stop by to drink
beer. They stand for hours discussing what
cleaning products they use. This behavior goes
on for hours! I couldn’t stand that long yet talk
about cleaning products! Maybe you could talk
about it while cleaning the house!
I am not sure if all of you enjoy the first day of
opening that garage door as much as he does
but I truly hope so. All he talks about is getting
his car ready for sunshine. It’s just around the
corner folks! Finally, we can all think Spring.
Give your baby
a new home.

The Club is launching a new sponsorship
program where we add a select handful of
sponsors to all of all our events throughout
the year. Contact me directly for details, as
there is limited availability, and let me know if
you know of anyone who wants to gain more
exposure through the club over and above our
current advertising programs.
As always:
As ARPCA Members, can you help us get
more advertising? Do you know someone who
would want to advertise in our newsletter and
on our website? WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH
ADVERTISERS!
For those of you thinking about it or think
you know someone who would be interested
in advertising / supporting this publication,
we have added a block in the publication with
the current rates and contact information. The
rates are very reasonable for the publication
demographics. In addition, if you are an ARPCA
member, you also qualify for special pricing.
For those who support the Rundschau
through advertising, we certainly appreciate it.
Your support helps keep this publication going.
Remember, we have a new item for the
Rundschau – an Advertiser’s Spotlight section.
Our advertisers count on you to use their
services – here is another way you can get to
know our advertisers. Each month, we will
showcase one of our advertisers – I think you
will find this informative and helpful.

Around The Zone
By Michael Soriano Zone 4 Representative
Greetings PCA Zone 4 Members,
I am pleased to be able to share some very
exciting news with you. The Porsche Club of
America has seen tremendous growth recently,
and as a result, has had a very successful and
profitable year. One of the topics Manny has
discussed during our Zone Rep meetings over
the past few months has been what to do with
this surplus of funds; if it is to be refunded,
and if so, how much. And, it is my pleasure to
inform you that in an unprecedented move,
PCA will be refunding a total of $500,000 back
to the regions. The payout for this total will be
distributed as follows; each region will receive
a one-time rebate subsidy of $7.50 per primary
member, and regions can utilize these funds in
any way they see fit.
This is perfect timing as most of the regions
within our zone are preparing for the upcoming
driving season. I am certain this new influx of
unexpected funds will be a welcome addition
to each of your regions, and will be used to
improve a wide variety of activities throughout
the year. Be sure to check your local region’s
website and newsletter for the latest details
on the many events close to you that are
being planned. Also, consider attending other
regions’ events, such as:
• Ohio Valley Region will hold the first DE of
the Season at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course
April 4-6
• Central Indiana Region’s Spring Color
Auto Tour Weekend to Cincinnati is April
5-6
• Saturday, April 5, Allegheny Region
is holding an All Member Dinner to
welcome their New Members.
12// Rundschau • April 2014

Curling Event is Thursday, April 10 at the
BGSU Ice Arena.
• Join Southeast Michigan Region on
Saturday, April 12, for their Model “T” Plant
Tour
• “Time with Tim” Rally Sport Region’s
monthly tech session will take place on
Saturday, April 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• April 25-27, Mid-Ohio Region will hold
their first DE at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car
Course
• The Northern Ohio Region Car Control
Clinic will be held at Lakeland Community
College in Kirtland, OH. Check their
website for more details.
• Western Michigan Region’s Spring Brunch

Grand Rapids, MI
• Registration opens Tuesday, April 1 for The
59th Annual Porsche Parade which will be
held in Monterey, CA on June 14-21, 2014.
Put this event on your calendar and plan
to attend, volunteer to help out and have
fun with PCA members from across the US
and Canada. It will be a great time for all.
I look forward to having the opportunity of
meeting each and every one of you at these
upcoming events. If you have any questions

The Seasons
4 short poems by Kay Swanson
WINTER
Winter!
Cold and bleak. I
Dream of May and driving
in the tracks of racing legends.
The Glen.
SPRING
The earth,
Warmed by the sun,
wakes yellow daffodils.
The time is coming to play with
Porsches.
On Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Regional Learning
Alliance in Cranberry Chief Instructor John Schrenker
Organized an ARPCA DE Instructor Clinic. This was part
one of a two part instructor training series that consists
of a classroom session and a second track driving
session which was held at Pitt-Race in Wampum, PA.
SUMMER
Top down
Warm midnight air
In solitude, I drive
on the black ribbon that takes me
To dawn.
FALL
Vibrant
color adorns
the mountains and valleys.
Bright leaves dance and swirl when my
car speeds by.

Porsches Travel To Paris
Via The Opera
by Lisa Malobicky
It is difficult to write this as I am overcome
with tears drenching the keyboard from the
performance of La Boheme performed by the
Pittsburgh Opera at its open night, Saturday,
March 29th. (Okay, maybe a little over the top
but I did go through a half box of tissue during
the performance.) I knew somewhat to expect
after seeing the movie, “Moonstruck” with Cher
and Nicolas Cage (1987). The powerfulness of
the live opera performance is indescribable!
During one of the intermissions at the Galaxy
Room, I was conversing with one of the club
members, Justin. I told him how much I cried
and he said, “I cried when I saw the snow!” I am
not sure if he meant because of the performance
stage setting or because of all the snow we have
had in the ‘Burgh this winter. Luckily we were
treated to wine, cheese and fruit platters to lift
our spirits in the Galaxy Room! The beautiful
atmosphere and the production at the Benedum
Center contributed to a magical evening.
Many thanks to our gracious host and club
member, Tony Sciullo who orchestrated the
event.

All Member Dinner
by Rob Hoffman
The All Member Dinner is always a great event.
It brings old members and new members
together. It serves as a way for the new
members to meet and to be welcomed into the
fold (or drink the Kool-Aid) that is our beloved
Porsche Club.
This year Kristin Strohmeier and Judy Seiler
put together a fantastic event at D’Imperios.
Seventy-six members were in attendance
with 16 members being initiated. During the
initiation ceremony the noobs were asked
to draw a picture of their car and them doing
their favorite things with it. We had some funny
PVGP
Home Theatre Raffle
drawings, some good drawings and flat out
artwork; like what you see on this months cover
compliments of Thomas Demko. They also
played a few other games, told lies and truths
about themselves and were hazed in true
ARPCA fashion. Thanks for being such good
sports ladies and gents. The class of 2014 has
the makings of some great members. Please
stay involved. You fit right in!
Congratulations to our 2014 Dixon Cup winner
Scott Ishler and our 2014 Calvo Moreland
award winner John Schrenker. Both VP Ishler
and Chief Instructor John do a lot for the club.
They both do so very much behind the scenes
to make this club what it is for the rest of us.
Our club has a lot of folks who put tons of time
