Some parishioners from St Brendan the Navigator Parish in Cumming, GA heard about mission trips that nearby St Monica’s church were taking to Hinch, Haiti (who also take our rosaries) and they decided to take on assisting the community at Bassin Zim. Clean water is essential and it was discovered that for only $5 a family could receive correct chemicals to purify their drinking water for a whole year. There was little or no education so a small school was established which now serves 170 K-6th grade children . With the help of business people from St. Brendan small business’s became a reality and with support and education they slowly are helping give hope to the community and the economy is beginning to grow stronger.. Blessing of the rosaries at Our Lady of Fatima Your rosaries will now give this parish Church Bassin Zim Central Plateau of Haiti a spiritual infusion of hope and healing. They send their sincere thanks!! School children are joyful when they receive a rosary from Michigan. Alba & Veronica picking up 1,100 rosaries to take to Columbia, South America. To the Rosary Makers, In the name of Jesus Christ, may you have a great year full of love and prosperity. I am a Religious Education teacher at the Lacides Iriates Normal National Superior High School in Sahagun, Cordoba Columbia. It has been a great joy to have received these beautiful rosaries elaborated by all of you and received through my friend Alba Sanchez. Now that they have allowed me to organize a youth group, we are going to extend this devotion to the rest of our school, now that the holy rosary prayer is a Marian prayer that centralizes our mind and heart in our Lord Jesus. We are grateful for such generous help. May God multiply his blessings for you and for your families. These are pictures of our youth. May God reward you. Gloria Bula M. Congratulations to Jane McNeilly Jane is from St. Michaels Parish in Grand Ledge. She has been a faithful Rosary Maker with us since 1970. Little did any of us realize back then, that after 44 years making rosaries Jane would top the charts by completing her one quarter millionth rosary last month. Yes, that really is 250,000 rosaries!!!!! There have been many times of great challenge for Jane, raising 6 children , helping with many grandchildren and now assisting her husband Jerry who is seriously ill (please pray for him), but Jane never gave up. She is totally committed to helping especially those in the missions who can’t afford to pay a whole day’s wages for a rosary. Her zeal and determination are amazing. Thank you Jane for your dedication to sharing your great love for Jesus and Mary with so many, many people all over the world, and with us, your fellow Rosary Makers. . God bless you always!! 2 Congratulations to Karen & Mike Golden on their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Thanks to them for their hard work on sales & especially all the thousands of laminated military prayer cards Mike creates. God’s Blessings to All the Rosary Makers! Once more we give thanks for the opportunities you afford the children in IHM’s Religious Education Program to experience your modeling of service and to join you as team in rosary making. Thanks to your hard work in Jan. 2014, 1279 Choose Life rosary prayer packets went to Indiana and Arizona to the sisters Mary, Mother of the Eucharist to take to the Life Marches in Washington, DC and San Francisco. Some also went to EWTN for Pro-Life. events. Fifth and sixth graders find joy in being a part of this service touching people near and far. They also like being part of the friendly competition to make the most rosaries to earn key roles in the May Procession. Allie Crites made the most rosaries as an individual and crowned Mary. Rayn Sova and family made the most rosaries as a team and together carried the six foot rosary in the processional. Other key players in making the most rosaries individually were Abbey Raymond and Karlee Kuhn . We were thrilled again with the fifth and sixth grade contribution to the rosary ministry at IHM. They made a total of 425 rosaries during Lent. We continue to be blessed with the encouragement of the staff team for fifth and sixth graders who promote rosary making-Karen Salinas, Yolanda Toner, Hyonju Van Acker, Ken Gemalsky, Marty Mecher, Patty Blakeslee, Doug Goulet, Leisa Gustin . Once more we give special thanks to Yolanda Toner who serves as ‘quality control coordinator’ making sure each piece we give to the rosary makers is a quality item. Rosary Makers you’re terrific! May your ministry grow and grow and grow. Sincerely, JoAnn Angers, Director of Thank you for all you do, you touch so many lives. God bless you. These young people are now “ praying it forward” on their own in many settings other than just school.. This year they also prayed over 300 rosaries for patients at Lansing area hospitals. May God bless you for your part in training our youth in the importance of intercessory prayer. Dear Mother Mary, I place all my children under your mantle of loving care. Please protect and watch over them with your motherly compassion. Help them come to know, love and serve Our Lord. Dear God, I ask this through Our Lady’s intercession, in Jesus’ name. Amen 3 Do you have children, grandchildren and other loved ones who are away from the practice of their faith? Would you like to come together with others to pray for their intentions? Rosary Maker Terry Noonan is willing to assist iin starting a group that would meet once a month for intercessory prayer for our families. Alice, Dan & Marla work hard at the Women’s and men’s conferences 4 Tasty goodies sell, sell, sell !! Good morning Rosary Makers, Thank you for the Rosaries. I am excited to bring them to Ghana and provide them to a local church. As promised, I am providing pictures from a previous visit to Africa. But first, let me explain why I go to Africa. I am a Navy Reservist and my reserve unit supports the U.S. Navy's relationship-building activities in the Gulf of Guinea region of Africa on the Atlantic coast. My previous visits gave me the opportunity to visit Cameroon, Gabon and Benin. Before my first visit to Benin, I had the chance to meet Steve Gauss at Men's Conference hosted by the Diocese of Lansing. Steve had set up a concession table at the conference for Pray It Forward. My conversation with Steve gave me the idea to bring Rosaries to Africa and, thanks to the efforts of your Rosary Makers, I have delivered three sets of 200 Rosaries each to Benin. The pictures are from the first time I delivered them. I had no idea to whom I should deliver them or how I should get the Rosaries to the right prayerful hands. So I went to the cathedral and asked around. These pictures are of that visit. I met the gentleman in the pictures who was studying for holy orders. He is Deacon Francis Djeguede and is awaiting ordination into the priesthood. He and I have become good friends since then. The red and white building in the background is the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Miséricorde. I was able to attend Mass there. Thanks again for providing me the Rosaries. Juan Balboa Thanks from the Military Guest speaker—Adam Janke, Program Director St. Paul Street Ministry St. Paul Street Evangelization (SPSE) is a grassroots, non-profit organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking the Catholic Faith to the streets. As an on-the-street Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for people to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with a hungry culture. Founded in May, 2012, and armed with a simple sign, pamphlets and Rosaries, SPSE evangelists take to the streets, going wherever people are gathered-on a street corner, at a festival, college campus or even at a football game. Our teams always begin in prayer. Initial contact is limited to a friendly greeting and an offer of a free Rosary, but the evangelist never tries to force anyone to stop and talk. St. Paul Street Evangelization has found this non confrontational approach to be very effective at strengthening the faith of practicing Catholics, bringing back into the Faith fallen away Catholics and clearing up misconceptions about the Faith held by non-Catholics. SPSE evangelists recognize it is only their job to plant seeds, and in the end, it is up to God to make those seeds grow. Soldiers at Ft. Benning, GA offer manythanks and prayers of thanksgiving for the thousands of beautiful military rosary packets they have received over the years. Lt. Col. Voyt Camp Pendleton, Calf.—500 Military rosaries for the Wounded Warrior event in May, 2014. as well as other soldiers who are served by this base. Many, many thanks from all of them. Sister Pat Newhouse—St. Martha’s Parish took 200 military rosaries to the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton who hosts the annual Sea Services Pilgrimage for the Navy . Her niece also took 500 military pks for care packages being sent to Afghanistan. Brian Moore—Al Udeid, Qatar. Our deepest thanks and appreciation for your generous donation of handmade rosaries to the deployed service members and civilians. Your gifts allow our parish community to grow together in faith, hope and love through the communal prayer of the rosary. Please accept our gratitude, and keep us in your prayers as we go about our duties in the desert. Joe & Kathy Tomo also prepare and distribute military rosaries and prayer packets for military funerals for which the families are very grateful. 5 Preparing military packets Thanks come for the hundreds of rosaries we send to New Jersey for their Legion work. They even give out rosaries at an annual St. Patricks Day parade . They won best float for a beautiful float dedicated to Jesus and Mary. What a way to evangelize! They say praying and promoting the rosary is the very core of the Legion’s existence. September 2013– August, 2014 Margaret Bappert Pamela Canty Melva Castaneda Ani & Angela Castaneda Kristina Deemer Georgina Franczyk Carmen Loredo Shannon McMurtray Darlene Ryor Jan Shepherd Kathy Tomo Gay & Madisyn Weymouth Prison Ministry Thanks to Kay Charles our rosary maker prison ministry coordinator, we have been able to provide 1,220 rosary & prayer card packets so that our IHM and diocesan prison ministers and prison chaplains can give inmates the spiritual tools they need to grow in faith. Prison Minister, Edward Struzinki gives us insight into the important work they do: “ Every week, two IHM parishioners minister to the Catholic inmates at Cotton Facility in Jackson. The Catholic inmates look forward to the service because they have an opportunity to pray for their families, their loved ones and receive “ Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.” I n addition to the above, the Catholic men have the opportunity to pray the Rosary. Each of the men usually volunteer to pray a decade of the rosary and also very prayerfully recite the Mercy Chaplet. They also inform us that during the day, some of the Catholic men pair up in the courtyard and pray the Rosary daily. This, in essence sets a good example for the inmates to witness. For continued healing Ruth Colson Dan Spitzley Susann Baker Nick Scamuffo Ted Angers(Husband of JoAnn) Jerry McNeilley(Husband of Jane) Tess Pido Tom Mauro Odile Valladares Mary Margaret Utess Lydia Verhelle Let us continue to pray often for all the needs of our fellow rosary makers and their families. Bob and Pat Herford also use many rosaries in their “ New Life” program as well as facilitate providing rosaries to other prisons throughout the diocese. They tell us many of the inmates like to wear the rosary under their clothing because, as they say, “ The rosary reminds them that Jesus died for them and is with them always.” Occasionally we receive requests from out-of-state inmates. One such inmate from Indiana said, “ A friend told me about your ministry. I was a lapsed Catholic and am trying to find my way again, please send me a rosary and information about the Church as we have no Catholic Services here.” Roger Esch (Son of Loretta) Rose Fata Judy McClain Ada Schafer Cecelia Stanaway Joan Vigneau HOLY SPIRIT ORATORY Eucharistic Adoration Chapel Located next to the IHM Parish office, the Holy Spirit Oratory Eucharistic Adoration Chapel has been in existence for 16 years.
