Young People Converge at Holy Redeemer Parish
Hall for National Catholic Youth Rally
On May 8, 2010 the National
Charismatic Youth Rally was held at Holy
Redeemer Parish Hall in Belize City.
Fr. Ian Taylor was the guest speaker at
the Rally. Fr. Taylor is the pastor of San
Raphael Parish in Trinidad West Indies.
His message was delivered in a vibrant
and enthusiastic manner. He encouraged
the youths to read the word of God daily
and to spend time listening to what God
is saying to them in his word. Fr. Taylor
encouraged the youths to pray, attend
retreats and to participate in a Life in the
Spirit Seminar. Fr. Taylor shared with
the youths how through evangelization
he had brought his whole family to Jesus
Christ.
The youths participated in eight
workshops during the Rally. Praise and
worship workshop was given by German
Novelo. The Sexual Harrasment workshop
was conducted by Emmanuel Odin and
Mr. Anthony. Mr. Omar Gongora gave the
workshop on Alcoholism. The Chastity
workshop was conducted by Emily Green.
Mr. David Brokke gave a workshop
called Peer Pressure and Zoila Vera and
Manuela Lue delivered the workshop on
Reconciliation.
The youths had a wonderful time
in a competition which was held among
the youth groups at the Youth Rally. The
various youth groups gave presentations
in Drama, Music and Dance depicting the
theme, “Hear, Accept and Reap the Word
of God.” The three prizes went to the
youth groups from Guinea Grass, Orange
Walk and St. Ignatius in Belize City.
We thank Mr. Joseph Stamp Romero
and Ms. Jenny Lovell who judged the
items. They were very helpful with their
constructive criticism to the participants.
The participation of the youths during
the closing liturgy was outstanding. The
youths from St. Ignatius were dressed
in their cultural Garifuna clothing as
they danced up the middle aisle during
the Gospel acclamation carrying the
Lectionary. The youths from Orange
Walk were dressed in Mestizo attire. They

danced up the middle aisle during the
Offertory Procession with the appropriate
gifts for the altar.
On May 7 Fr. Taylor and the
Charismatic Service Team visited St.
Francis Xavier Church, Corozal, for a
Charismatic Mass and Healing Service.
The church was filled with young and old,
anxious faces. Those who were ill came to
receive their healing and deliverance. We
thank God our Father and Jesus Christ his
Son and the Holy Spirit that these beloved
sons and daughters of God were not
disappointed. Some were delivered and
some received their healing. We know
that God is good all the time.
Rosary Project Reaches
Toledo Schools
On Mother’s Day, the rosary team,
headed by Ms. Thomasita Asevedo, left
for Punta Gorda with great enthusiasm to
start the rosary project in the schools.
The Pallottine Sisters at Nazareth
warmly welcomed the rosary team.
Mr. Ben Juarez, Catechist in the Toledo
District, helped the team to plan the day’s
activities.
The team set off to teach at St.
Joseph’s R.C. School in Barranco. The
students, with bright colored
yellow
uniforms,
smiled
joyfully as Ms. Thomasita and
Ms. Manuela Lue taught them
the history and meaning of the
rosary. Alejandra, from the SOLT
Catholic Mission in Benque Viejo
del Carmen, was a member of
the rosary team and she helped to
pass out the rosaries and rosary
leaflets to the students. The
students in Barranco were taught
the Joyful Mystery and prayed
the Hail Mary and Our Father at
the top of their voices. Mr. Burton
Lino, Middle Division teacher
at St. Joseph’s R.C. School,
commented that the students
appreciated the rosaries and are
developing an ardent devotion to
the Blessed Mother. The students
developed a better understanding
of what the crucifix and beads
signify. The teachers plan to draw
and label columns to show which
mysteries are said on which days.
While learning to pray the rosary,
the students will discuss what the
prayers mean. After the rosary
session, the students happily
gathered in the schoolyard to take
photographs with the rosaries and
the beautiful picture of the Divine
Mercy.
The two volunteers from
overseas helped take photographs
and carried the rosary material
into the classrooms.
Then the team set off to St. John
the Baptist School in Conejo Creek to
teach the infants. The students listened
attentively to the history and meaning of
the rosary and willingly volunteered to
say the Hail Mary one by one.
On the second day, the rosary team
traveled far to Jalacte and San Vicente
by the Guatemalan border. Some of the
parents in San Vicente also requested
rosaries.
The participation of the youths during the closing liturgy was outstanding. Here
the youths from Orange Walk were dressed in Mestizo attire as they danced up
the middle aisle during the Offertory Procession with the appropriate gifts for the
altar.
Other schools visited were Santa
Elena, Santa Cruz, St. Philip, Aguacate,
Pueblo Viejo, Silver Creek, Indian Creek,
San Miguel and Crique Sarco. At Crique
Sarco, the rosary team walked over a
bridge to get to the school. The students
were not in school that day, but the rosary
team presented the project to the teachers.
The teachers are requesting that the rosary
team visit the school again and comment
that a group visiting from outside the
school adds a fresh perspective and great
enthusiasm to the learning experience.

On Sunday May 16, the rosary team attended a
procession in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a
beautiful Mass at St. Peter Claver Church, Punta Gorda.
During the second week, the rosary team went to
Blue Creek where Mr. Vaires, principal of the school,
mentioned that he really appreciated the project as it
brought unity to the Catholics and drew the school
members closer together. The teachers reacquainted
themselves with the mysteries of the rosary and the
teachers taught the rosary again to the students later on in
the week. The students were taken to Blue Creek Catholic
Church for the rosary session.
What a warm welcome at Santa Teresa, where a
delicious meal of caldo was prepared for the rosary team.
Overall, the teachers and principals are happy that the
leaflets, rosaries and rosary posters were left in the school,
as they will now have an adequate supply from which to
teach. Many commented that it was a project that was of
real value to the students and one that should have been
in the schools earlier. The beaming eyes and friendly
smiles and hugs of the students left a lasting impression.
The reverence with which the children prayed was an
inspiration to all. The rosary team was welcomed into the
schools with open arms. With the help of Mr. Juarez who
navigated the path to the schools very well, the principals
and teachers accommodated the rosary team with little or
no advance notice.
A total of 16 schools were visited in the Toledo
District. Thanks to the warm reception of Fr. Perl S.J., the
Pallottine Sisters and Mr. Ben Juarez in Punta Gorda who
helped to make this project successful. Thanks to Fr. Jim
Blount, SOLT for providing the Divine Mercy posters
and to everyone who assisted in any way. Thanks for your
prayers!

MOTHER’S DAY GIFT TO OUR LADY OF THE
WAY CHURCH IN LADYVILLE:Fr. Oliver Smalls of
Our Lady of the Way Church and its parishioners had a
pleasant surprise on Mother’s Day when parishioner Mrs.
Juanita Beeke, along with some special guests arrived for
morning Mass.
Accordingly, Mrs. Beeke had a dream viewing a
painting of “The Last Supper” in which local artist Mrs.
Gayla Fuller, played a major part.
The dream was so vivid, both Mrs. Beeke and Mrs.
Fuller decided to bring it to reality. Between them they
managed to create a 5’ x 4’ acrylic painting of “The Last
Supper.”
The painting was presented to Fr. Smalls by the Hon.
Michael Hutchinson on behalf of Mrs. Beeke and Mrs.
Fuller.
Mr. Clive Myers from the Institute of Creative Arts
gave a short talk on the artist’s creativity of this sacred
piece of art. Also in attendance was the crew from Love
FM who did a short documentary on the presentation that
was televised.
Small Procession
Held at Charismatic
Center in Belize City
Are you praying the rosary daily? A small candlelight
procession was held from the Charismatic Center to the
Marian Grotto in the Pallotti School Yard. Christina
Cabral,
daughter
of Edita and Alton
held a small statue
of Our Lady as she
led the candlelight
procession on May
13, 2010.
Many Catholics
around the world
prayed a special
rosary on May 13 to
honor Our Lady of
Fatima. We joined
with other Catholics
around the world
as we prayed our
rosary and sang
Marian Hymns as
we walked towards
the Marian Grotto.
We beg Our Lady
to intervene in the
world, to stop the
growing spiral of
sin, revolution and

violence in our country, Belize.
Mary intervenes on our behalf when we pray the
rosary. The great naval battle at Lepanto where Catholic
forces defeated a larger Turkish fleet in 1571 was made
possible because the rosary was prayed.
An unexpected miraculous liberation took place in
