pIECING it ALL together,
the essence that IMPELSpeople
to strive for peace,
people like Washington,
lINCOLN, Kennedy and King,
to question and propose formulas
for peace,
is each person's idea of peace.
Whether it be personal
or global in its idea l,
each method of achieving
such a desirable state
is unique.
Politicalfigures forcefullydemand,
stage orations,
and write themes of peace.
Oftentimes it is those
who are reaching upward
that possess the greatest desire
and force.
Certainly the men of the CivilWar,
World War III,and today,
alsohave a unique dream
of peace.
As abstract as each individual
dream may be,
each man's abstract speck of slash
adds to a bigger form,
which yields, ultimately,
a recognizable blueprint of tranquility,
Now, through rallys,demonstrations,
and mass togetherness,
we, too, have in our own way
placed our spot on the blueprint.
We have, consciously, or unconsciously,
by being born in this time
and generation,
dedicated our very existence
to an ideal. Itis tothose
of yesterday and we of today,
who strive for peace,
that we dedicate this book.
We leaveour attempts as evidence
so those of the future tnay livieve
in the actual existence
of what today is for us,
a unique ideal.
Ispeace a dream ...
or an idealwithin
man's grasp?
"
A man's reach shouldexceed his grasp"
Inthis concept he placeshis ideals
above futility and despair.
He carries precious hope
tothe areas of need.
He may not reach the ultimamte,
but his achievement
lies in working towards his dreams;
dreams he hopes can go on ...
untilthey become reality.

Everyone wants peace. Pictures of the starving children in
Biafra brought the horrors of war with stunning impact into
our very homes. Iheard a number of Biafran students in this
country say, "that kind of peace is meaningless. It'sslavery.
We don't want peace on that basis. We want freedom and are
willing to die for it,to sacrifice every last Biafran. if necessary.
For us the war is not over and never will be until we are free."
Is peace meaningful at the cost of your freedom? Are there
conditions under which peace is not acceptable? Is marching in
with guns and tanks to guarantee peace, the kind of peace we
would want for ourselves?
Is peace merely the absence of formal war? If we continue
to supply weapons so that soldiers. women and children are
mutilated and killed, will we have achieved peace for
ourselves?
There was a time in American history when our forefathers
faced this decision. They pledged their lives. their fortunes,
and their sacred honor toward rectifying the situation. For the
patriots of 1776, peace at any price was not acceptable. In
1861, we faced a situation, and hoped for war. In 1865 the
question of secession from the United States was solved in the
same way that the very same question was solved in Nigeria in
1970. In both cases war could have been averted if secession
had been accepted. Should Biafra have been permitted to go
its own way? We join World War I"Tomake the world safe for
democracy:and World War II to save the world from Nazism.
We participated in Korea to save the South Koreans from
Communism, and we thought we were rendering similar service
inSouthVietNam.
Do we have an obligation to help others? We must ask this
question with a deeper sense of involvement than ever before.
The world has become too small for one Southto prosper at
the expense of another. or one race, or one religion, or even
one person to flourish while others are deprived.
All the problems we once considered national, or even local,
we realize now are global. There is no need to ask "ForWhom
the Bell Tolls."We must keep asking ourselves. what is Peace?
What must we do,to achieve it?
At the end of World War I-the headlines read PEACE .. .
At the end of World War II . the headlines read PEACE . . .
and at the conclusion of a recent "sit-in"at one of our local
colleges - the headlines read PEACE ...
Just what does this word mean? To some it means
contentment - to others tranquility ( or a means of escape
through usage of drugs, etc.) .
We, in administrative positions hear a great deal about
freedom for students and adults to live as they see fit. The
sevent ies will have little or nothing to do with the sixties.
Noto nly is this a new decade - it's a new life for many of
us. If we face up to the fact that the graduates of Grahm
Junior College and their peers will soon be makingdecisions
that will affect our very existence, then the "oldergeneration"
wil soon learn what the word PEACE means. Iwould not like
to equate peace with war. Ifeel that peace is something that is
sacred to each individual. Itis a "feeling"that is very difficult
to express to anyone but himself.
The absence of physical conflict does not mean peace.
because we have been involved ih a "coldwar"and are now
involved in a "hot war''.
Om ask! ng my fourteen year old son what he thought peace
was, he replied, "Idon't know,but I'mhappy so Iguess I'mat
peacewi th myself. Iwish everyone couldbe happy."

Vice President Jack Nesson
Dean Edward F. Lynch, Jr.
Dean of Students
Mankind has always recognized its inability to realize
its individual collectivecapacity
ity for attaining happiness.
When analyzing this problem,
man has attributed his lackof
fulfillment to the absence of
world peace. Man has known
no greater frust ration than his
experience in search of peace.
It has been suggested that
peace is so difficu lt to attain
because man has not been
able to adequately define it,
therefore he does not know
where to search. We are
inclined to think of peace
today as the cessation of
hostilities, a coming together
of heads of state, a resolution
of major issues; e.g., territory
territorial expansion, hunger, sickness, and pestilence. The
history of man is replete with
examples of conferences,
pacts, and grand designs for
peace. Few have met with
even token success.
I would prefer to think of
peace in different terms.
Peace to me is an individual
experience for man that
stems from an inner tranquuility
ity resulting from a true
underst anding and acceptance
of his own limitations as well
as those of others. When each
individual has attained this
level of understanding he can
begin to relate positively to
others, he has predisposed
himself to love and to be
loved in return.
I believe that predisposing
oneself to love and to being
loved in return is the necesssary ingredient to attaining
inner peace as individuals. We
can then begin to reflect our
happiness in our relations
with others and in this way
spread feelings of good willto
all men. I believe this is the
one route to peace that has
not been given a fair trial
Dean Edward L. Kerr, Jr.
Dean of Faculty
Recorded history has shown us conflict between men,
and if the future can be predicted from the past, there will
always be conflict. It isn't only that man covets that
which belongs to someone else, but that man in his
enthusiasm about what he has and what he believes wants
to impose his will on ot hers. This leads to conflict mental and at times physical. Peace is freedom from fear;
the securi ty that you can livey our own lifeas youchoose
within the framework of society. Peace must start with
oneself. Ifone is satisfied with what he has, he may not
covet and may share with his neighbors. T his means that
peace is costly, and many are not willingto pay theprice.
Itmeans that one cannot sit idlywhilehis neighbor goes
hungry. Itmeans that one nation cannot expand and get
richer by taking the manpower and natural resources of
lesser nations. Itmeans that nationsmust work together
with each other in striving for worldhealthand well-being
without worrying about who will get the credit. Itmeans
mutual respect and allowingone nation to choose its own
way of lifeand to be free from worry about another's way
being imposed on it.

Although the Grahm Junior College "Lions" had a less than
promising season - two wins and thirteen losses, the team showed
great spirit and enthusiasm under coach Frank Ruderman. Leading
Grahm in scoring was six feet, four inches Captain Rudy Mooring,
averaging 22 points a game. Another forward who should be
commended is six foot three inch George Physic, averaging 20 points
a game. The guards were led by the hustling Dana Barros, a very
under-rated ball player. Little John Ashworth, Mike McKeever and
the blond giant, Ken Duchnowski also contributed to the total
harmony of the team. Charles Granville, the seventh man and strong
Teddy Meyers along with John Luceno munded out the first nil'le.

The Grahm
Hockey Team
coached by Paul Hussey progressed
significantly over last year. but
their 1·14·1 record did not express their marked improvement.
Grahm's one win and one tie came
early in the season when problems
had not yet materialized. At semester break, Grahm lost some of
its strength and due to the inexperience of most of the freshman
team, they cou ld not recuperate
rapidly enough to finish honorably.
Coach Hussey had several outstanding hockey players that should be
recommended. Captain and center
Tom Hopkins led Grahm in scoring
with 20 goals. Also playing well
offensively were Gil Case, Norman
Reid, and hard hitting Jeff Moza·
vero. Ken McQueen led the defensive
charge with George Dudasik and Ken
Huddy. Paul Callier defense.
Entering the final week of the baseball season, the Grahm
baseball team found themselves in strong contention for the
Massachusetts Junior College Conference title and have a
playoff berth assured.
Pitching has been the prominent factor in the success of the
team. Ken Duchnowski and Andy Hartery have combmed into
the strongest 1-2 punch from the mound in the league. Both
have three victories apiece with Hartery's only loss comi ng
from a disappointing performance by his mates. Phil Wallace,
the Lion's third pitcher, has been troubled by a sore arm most
of the season. Coach Eydenberg, however. hopes that Phil will
be ready during the playoffs.
The team has hit fairly well and has improved greatly since
the beginning of the season. Duchnowski (563). Catcher Tom
Logan (380) ,Hartery (375). and standout Centerfielder Danny
Burr (375) have been the most productive hitters in the lineup.
One of the most satisfying aspects of this year's team is the
heads up brand of ball that the Lions are playing on the field.
Except for a couple of lapses earlier in the season, the infield
of Ray Messier (3rd), Vito Molfetto (SS), Paul Doherty (2nd).
and ~.arry Krauss (1st). have played extremely well. Running
this infield is Tom Logan. who is having a fine year. Tom
usually bats in the cleanup spot and his hustle keeps everyone
alert and ready.
Several ot her players who have added to the success of the
lions are: Jim Cail (RF). Pat Maher (OF). Tom Hopkms (1st),
and Jeff Mogavero (OF).

CHEERLEADERS
To our ten Grahm cheerleaders, every game is a championship rivalry .
Present at every Basketball meet, they enthusiastically urged the team on
with their vitality and great spirit. They cor.npose their own cheers
consisting of mostly soul beats and jumps. Throughout the season they
practice faithfully to insure precision and style. Six of the cheerleaders are
returning next year, and it is expected that they will carry on this
tradition.

staff came together weekly and discussed articles to be
considered for publication. Material for the magazine was
derived from both the staff and the college community at
large. Now features such as photographs, illustrations and
word games were evidenced.
Ep.silon Tau Sigma Sorority's motto is "endeavor to serve".
During the past year Epsilon Tau Si.gma has sponsored such
