Thanksgiving Edition
November 2010
Santa Claus is coming to
town: illumination nov. 24th
The holiday season
will be kicked off officially on November
24th with the Community Church Service being held at the
Barnesville First
United Methodist
Church beginning at
6:30 pm.
Immediately following the service, the
Chamber will host
the Annual Illumination Celebration beginning at 7:30 pm.
Christmas carols will
be sung, stories read,
and Santa will be
making his first appearance in Barnesville.
The theme for this
year’s holiday season
is “Christmas Past
Meets Christmas Present.” Santa will be
coming to Slice’s for
photos offered by
Reflections Photography. This was always
Santa’s stop when
Wisebram’s was in
business.
There will be some
specialty vendors set
up for the night’s festivities for the community to enjoy.
There will be a window decorating contest for the merchants and windows
will be judged on November 18th.
Bring your family
downtown on the
evening of the 24th
and stroll through
stores, have dinner,
listen to good music
and see Santa! It is
the perfect way to
ring in the holidays!

The 2010 Career Fair was a
huge success hosting 30 businesses who interacted with approximately 625 Lamar County
High School students. The students were given questions to
ask the business representatives
to better help them interact and
learn the ins and outs of each
profession that struck their interests.
The Chamber’s Education Committee would like to thank all of
the business participants, the
students, and the LCCHS team
that made the day a huge success.
The 2010 Membership BBQ was
held on October 14th at Alan
and Sandra Hudson’s barn. It
was a beautiful location and the
weather was perfect.
Thank you to Alan and Sandra
for hosting, Jackson Beverage
for donating the beverage, and
all members who attended.

The Merchant’s Committee
has been very active this summer and fall hosting the
cruise-ins and movies in the
park.
The cruise-ins averaged 30+
cars each month and car enthusiasts from all over middle
Georgia attended. The final
cruise-in of the season was
held on October 23rd and
will resume on the 4th Saturday of each month in May
2011.
The efforts of the merchant’s
committee this year was to
create events that would
drive people to downtown
from outside the county while
providing entertainment to
our citizens. The mission was
accomplished and will only
continue to grow in the years
to come.

Nov. 2nd.
Bridget Fouts and Jody Alford
attended as candidates for
the Milner City Council seat.
Susan Holmes and David
Gault attended as candidates
for the House District 125

submitted by the public.
The political forums are great
ways for the community to
meet candidates and hear
their opinion on many issues
that may be important in the
voting process.

Let the holidays
begin! I cannot
believe we are
already facing
another holiday
season! I feel like just yesterday
was BBQ & Blues!
I must say I do love the holidays
and the cheer that everyone
spreads around. The smell of the
turkey and sounds of family chattering like they haven’t seen each
other in a year - that is the best
part. Then the minute the turkey
gobbles, the radio stations start
playing Christmas music. The hus-
tle and bustle of it all can be
quite annoying yet we all love it
just the same.
This time of year is especially
difficult for those struggling with
the economy. As much as we need
to stimulate the economy with the
little bit we may have to do so
with, let’s please keep in mind the
reason for the season. Enjoy your
family and make as many memories as you can. We never know
what the next year will bring us.
I am thankful for many things
this year. I am thankful for my
family, loved ones and friends. I
am very thankful for my job as
well. I love working at the Chamber and working with my board.
They are awesome! I am thankful
for Barnesville. We have such a
beautiful town with so much to
offer.
Be thinking of what you are most
thankful for this season and
share it with the ones you are
closest to.
I wish you and you families a very
Happy Thanksgiving!
