Each year, in cooperation with the national office of the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, missionaries from Catholic organizations are invited to visit parishes to share their experiences and ask for financial support and prayers. Saint John Paul II in his Encyclical Letter “On the Permanent Validity of the Church’s Missionary Mandate,”Redemptoris Missio, stressed the necessity of missionary cooperation: “…Local churches, although rooted in their own people and their own culture, must always maintain an effective sense of the universality of the faith, giving and receiving spiritual gifts, experiences of pastoral work in evangelization and initial proclamation, as well as personnel for the apostolate and material resources.” Blessings to Newly Baptized Claire Marie Brun Brantley Jeffrey Hutchinson Kolbe John Paul Ortega Welcome New Parishioners Andrew & Cara Costello and children, Casey & Nicholas James & Tina Laky Nicholas Laky Morgen Verdecchio and daughter, Vanessa Hearing Assistance System Available We’re ready to provide churchgoers at MMR with a hearing assistance system! Friday Adoration Resumes “The Church and the world have a great need of Eucharistic worship. Jesus waits for us in this sacrament of love. Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Him in adoration..." 1980 - "On The Mystery And Worship Of The Eucharist" Encyclical Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays at MMR Parish will resume on Friday, September 11th. However, the format for this weekly devotion is being changed in response to parishioners’ past practices. Adoration will begin following the Prayer After Communion at the 7:30 am Mass (at the 9:00 am Mass during Advent and Lent) and will come to a close at 5:00 pm with simple reposition of the Blessed Sacrament. We will no longer end the day of Adoration with Benediction. With the Holy Father’s announcement of a Holy Year of Mercy, the 3:00 pm hour will be devoted to the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Chaplet cards will be made available. We need more adorers to share their time with our Eucharistic Lord to pray for our families, our parish, our country and our world. This year you can sign up for Adoration times on our parish website. On our Mass times page click the Adoration sign up form. However, you can contact Melissa Mussoline at [email protected] to schedule your Adoration time as well. Pro-Life News Save the Date! Vatican Splendors at the Franklin Institute A Journey Through Faith and Art The exhibition explores the historical and cultural impact of the Vatican over the span of 2,000 years through significantly relevant objects straight from the Vatican in Rome, Italy. Every object in the exhibition tells its own story, together forming a great historical mosaic of the Vatican—and many of the artifacts have never before been on public view at the Vatican in Rome. Highlights of the nearly 10,000 square-foot exhibition include artwork by Michelangelo, including signed documents and a rarely seen bas- relief sculpture, and tools used in work on the Sistine Chapel and Basilica of Saint Peter’s; works by masters including Bernini and Guercino, artwork dating back to the first century, venerated remains (bone fragments) of Saints Peter and Paul, relics discovered at the tombs of Saints Peter and Paul, and historical objects from the modern and ancient basilicas of Saint Peter’s in Rome. The exhibition is organized into 11 galleries that illustrate the evolution of the Church, with thematic areas highlighting important developments, people and events tied to the history of the Vatican, reflected in both important historical objects and artistic expression from different eras. The objects are presented in galleries and recreated environments designed to enhance the understanding of their historical and artistic significance. Visitors will feel transported to the Vatican, from the underground catacombs where the remains of Saint Peter were discovered to the magnificent papal chambers found above ground. From the sights and sounds of the grand Basilica to a touchable cast of Saint John Paul II’s hand, the exhibition is a multisensory experience. “There could not be a more fitting exhibition to bring to Philadelphia this fall than Vatican Splendors,” Would you like to go with the parish in November?
