VOLUME 15 ISSUE 3
September 2016
An Update from the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:
We’ve been busy this summer! Thanks to your generous commitment to support mental health over the next four years, we were able to move forward in our plans to create a dedicated space for children and families experiencing a mental health crisis. We immediately began renovaEons to a space in C2 to create the Kindervelt Psychiatric Emergency Assessment Center (KV PEACe). As we usually see an increase each fall of young people experiencing a mental health crisis (such as depression, suicidal thoughts, aggression, etc.), it was important that we complete this space before the start of the new school year. ConstrucEon lasted 10 weeks and wrapped up in middle of August –with paEents and families using the space shortly aOer! We did ⁿQ
a soO opening on August 22 , using the space only between 5pm – 1 am, to ensure a smooth transiEon and use of space. In the first week alone, KV PEACe cared for more than 30 paEents and their families. We anEcipate moving to a 24/7 schedule by mid-‐September and look forward to offering this care around the clock. We strived to create a center that is environmentally and therapeuEcally ready for psychiatric work, and could support the more than 20 paEents per day who come to the emergency department in a mental health crisis. Located on the floor above the ED, KV PEACe has five rooms dedicated to paEent evaluaEons and a large family waiEng room. The rooms offer safe, soothing spaces for paEents to decompress, be observed and receive necessary care. The care team works with families and outpaEent providers to determine next steps, taking the Eme needed to involve parents, schools and other wrap-‐around services to ensure a care plan is in place. The goal is to help families address the immediate mental health needs of their child and create a plan for future support so that the child can then return home to their families. We invite you to join us on future tours of the space over the next few years to learn more about this space and criEcal program. Thank you again for making this new model of care possible.

[email protected] Welcome to a new year of “Having Fun While Raising Funds”! I hope you all had a great summer. It is now time to get back into the Kindervelt state of mind and plan some events!
It has been a busy summer with all sorts of events. We had the Western & Southern tennis tournament, Bleed for a Cause, a chili cook-‐off, Macy’s Shop for a Cause, bake sales, wine tastings, Homefest, just to name a few. I hope you were able to participate in a few of them. It is a great opportunity to keep in touch with your Kindervelt friends through these events. I want to thank all the members who are taking on a leadership role this year. It is you who keep our organization running smoothly. It is so important that our groups have leaders who keep us excited about raising money for the Cincinnati Children’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I also want to thank this year’s Board of Trustees and Nominating Committee. I look forward to a successful year together.
It is with utmost sincerity I want to express that every one of you is a valued member of Kindervelt. Each of us has something very special to offer our organization and it is the combination of us all that makes us great. I encourage you to promote Kindervelt by sharing your experiences with friends, co-‐workers, & anyone interested. Take them to a meeting or to an event. By doing this, we are raising awareness of Kindervelt and keeping our vision alive. Enthusiasm begets enthusiasm. Lets get the entire tristate enthusiastic about Kindervelt!
I look forward to working with every one of you. You are an inspiring group of volunteers. I know this is going to be a terriUic year for Kindervelt!

KV #56 - Thank you to all who baked, packaged up and
got their goodies ready to sell for our awesome summer
bake sale. We did great...almost $400!! Special
mention to Libby, Terri, and Linda who helped with the
sale at CCHMC.
KV #77 - Happy Birthday to April Rainey - 9/6!
KV #22 - Stephanie Janssen-THANK YOU!
It may have been an Olympic year where some of the
best in tennis couldn’t come to the W& S Open…
It may have been a summer of unexpected tennis
professional injuries…
And it may have been a record rainfall for one week in
Mason, Ohio…
That didn’t stop our very own Stephanie Janssen from
rising above and recruiting all of the volunteers for
Citywide Kindervelt in the Program Sales department.
Thank you Stephanie for your unprecedented support
and enthusiasm. Kindervelt 22 is so proud of all you do
representing not only our chapter but also Citywide.
How lucky are we! Job Well Done!
KV #78 - Thanks to Katrina Smith, Mary Beth Young,
Wendy Holschuh, Sheila and Doug Maxwell, Nancy and
Scott Morton and their children, who braved some
nasty weather (or perhaps dodged those raindrops)
while selling programs at the Western & Southern
Tennis Tournament. Thanks to you, Kindervelt #78
was once again well represented among the volunteers
for this fundraiser!
KV #56 - In anticipation of the upcoming Kindervelt
Kraft sale days, our members have been working at our
Craft Central location. Over the years we have moved
crafting from house, to business and to other house
locations. Carolyn Reihle has again relocated and
opened her lower level into a great crafting location. We
know that Carolyn ioves to craft and we love sharing
her space with her. We have made some fabulous
items and have always had a great variety of wonderful
and professional looking crafts to sell. We try and keep
up with the new trends but still present some tried and
true crafts. Thank you to all our worker bees and our
artistic and talented crafters!!
KV # 78 - Several of our members and their friends
also volunteered as hostesses for houses at the
Northern Kentucky Homefest, raising over $500 for
Kindervelt Krafts! Thanks to Katrina Smith, Anne Von
Moll, Alvera Hassebrock, Mary Beth Young, Nancy
Morton, Wendy Holschuh, Terri Dahlem, and Karen
Young for donating your time to help us raise some
money for our favorite cause! Special thanks to Katrina
who put in extra effort and hours coordinating all the
Kindervelt volunteers for this event.

Bill Tsacalis. Their son Basil, passed away suddenly
in Texas where he was living.
KV #68 - Kudos to Marge Duffy for selling $115 in Macy
Shop for a Cause Passes!!! Thank you for your hard
work and dedication!!
KV #8 would like to extend our deepest sympathies to
Anita Evenson on the loss of her mother Lorene
"Sharon" Ribble. We hope you will be comforted by the
prayers, love, and hugs of your family and friends.
Kindervelt #19 Patio Party
The ladies of Kindervelt #19 hosted another
successful fundraiser at our “Patio Party” on
July 21st at Jackie Clough’s home. Thank you
to all who came and supported Kindervelt.
Everyone enjoyed the wonderful variety of
food at the party. A big thank you to Scott
Hau from "Uncorked at The Spicy Olive" for
bringing such great wine for the wine tasting.
The ladies had fun shopping with Silpada and
as usual Heather from “nest” in Hyde Park
had some great things to take home. Thank
you to our vendors who always support
Kindervelt and to Jackie for hosting the event.
NFL Survivor Pool - 2nd Annual
Semco Outdoor
September 10th
The NFL Survivor will test your skills in picking one
winner among all the NFL teams that are playing
each week. Sounds easy and it is! No drafting or
point spreads and rosters to manage. Just straight
up head to head play. Just pick one winner per
week! The challenge and strategy that makes it
interesting and competitive; once you pick a team,
you cannot pick that team in subsequent weeks.
Example: Week 1 you pick the Bengals to defeat
the Jets. Bengals win... Good pick! You survive
to play the following week. However, the Bengals
will not be among the teams for you to pick the
remainder of the season. You keep winning your
match ups, the winning team you picked is
removed from your list of options. The last person
to survive wins the pot.
PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH

HAVE 100 PARTICIPATE!

Second Story Auctions
October 26, 2016
Kindervelt has joined with Second Story Auctions to raise funds for our new
commitment to the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. If you are
downsizing, redecorating, moving (or know someone who is), or are a fan of
Marie Kondo and her Life-Changing Magic of Tidying, please donate those
items that no longer work for you. We will be collecting donations through
September. Give a new life, a second story, to the furniture, artwork, jewelry,
accessories, collectibles or other home goods that no longer work for you!
Second Story Auctions has created an auction that will carry the Kindervelt
name, selling the items that have been donated to us. So we need lots of
quality donations!! If you visit the Second Story Auctions website (https://
www.secondstoryauctions.com/), you can visit their archived auctions to see
what kind of items are normally found in an auction. [When you click on
the Browse button, you’ll see a button for “See all auctions”.] While you are
there, go ahead and register as a bidder because you never know what you
might find!
