The 58th ICYPAA WHAT IS ICYPAA? International Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous 8 9 The 58th ICYPAA PAST ICYPAAS 1958 - 1ST ICYPAA 1978 - 21ST ICYPAA Niagara Falls, NY Atlanta, GA Young People’s Groups in Alcoholics Anonymous began appearing around 1945 in Los Angeles, Cleveland, and Philadelphia. Now they can be found not only all across North America but all around the world. In 1958, a meeting of young AA’s from across the U.S. and Canada started what is now the International Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous (ICYPAA), and it has met annually ever since. At the 1960 AA Convention, Bill W. noted the age of new members was much lower than when he and Dr. Bob founded AA 25 years earlier. In a letter to ICYPAA dated June 15, 1969, Bill wrote “... in recent years I have found nothing for greater inspiration than the knowledge that AA of tomorrow will be safe, and certainly magnificent, in the keeping of you who are the younger generation of AA today.” ICYPAA was founded for the purpose of providing a setting for an annual celebration of sobriety among young people in AA. 1959 - 2ND ICYPAA Since its inception, a growing group of people, who at first would not consider themselves as “young people,” has become regular attendees. The number of young people suffering from alcoholism who turn to AA for help is growing, and ICYPAA helps to carry AA’s message of recovery to alcoholics of all ages. This meeting provides an opportunity for young AA’s from all over the world to come together and share their experience, strength, and hope as members of Alcoholics Anonymous. AA members who attend an ICYPAA return home better prepared to receive young people who come to AA looking for a better way of life. 1966 - 9TH ICYPAA ICYPAA provides visible evidence that large numbers of young people are achieving a lasting and comfortable sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous. The three legacies of AA -- Recovery, Unity, and Service -- are the backbone of ICYPAA, just as they are throughout AA. ICYPAA has a long history as an established AA conference. It regularly contributes to the AA General Service Office, as well as to the Area Service Structure in the local areas where it is held. ICYPAA and its attendees are also committed to reaching out to the newcomer, and to involvement in every other facet of AA service. ICYPAA participants can often be found serving at the national, area, district, and group levels. Newcomers are shown, by people their own age, that using AA principles in their daily lives and getting involved in AA service can have a significant impact on a lasting and comfortable sobriety. Chicago, IL 1979 - 22ND ICYPAA Vancouver, BC 1960 - 3RD ICYPAA 1981 - 24TH ICYPAA 1961 - 4TH ICYPAA 1982 - 25TH ICYPAA Philadelphia, PA Milwaukee, WI 1962 - 5TH ICYPAA Hamilton, ON 1963 - 6TH ICYPAA Columbia, SC 1964 - 7TH ICYPAA Detroit, MI 1965 - 8TH ICYPAA Long Beach, CA St. Louis, MO 1967 - 10TH ICYPAA Denver, CO 1968 - 11TH ICYPAA Toronto, ON 1969 - 12TH ICYPAA Philadelphia, PA 1970 - 13TH ICYPAA Fort Worth, TX 1971 - 14TH ICYPAA Reno, NV 1972 - 15TH ICYPAA Cleveland, OH 1973 - 16TH ICYPAA San Francisco, CA 1974 - 17TH ICYPAA Indianapolis, IN 1975 - 18TH ICYPAA Memphis, TN 1976 - 19TH ICYPAA Philadelphia, PA 1977 - 20TH ICYPAA Houston, TX St. Paul, MN New York, NY 1983 - 26TH ICYPAA Cincinnati, OH 1984 - 27TH ICYPAA Chicago, IL 1985 - 28TH ICYPAA Denver, CO 1986 - 29TH ICYPAA Miami, FL 1987 - 30TH ICYPAA Boston, MA 1988 - 31ST ICYPAA Nashville, TN 1989 - 32ND ICYPAA Salt Lake City, UT 1990 - 33RD ICYPAA Montreal, PQ 1991 - 34TH ICYPAA San Francisco, CA 1992 - 35TH ICYPAA Cleveland, OH 1993 - 36TH ICYPAA New York, NY 1994 - 37TH ICYPAA Atlanta, GA 1995 - 38TH ICYPAA Honolulu, HI 1996 - 39TH ICYPAA Anaheim, CA 1997 - 40TH ICYPAA Estes Park, CO 1998 - 41ST ICYPAA Washington D.C. 1999 - 42ND ICYPAA Houston, TX 2000 - 43RD ICYPAA Albuquerque, NM 2001 - 44TH ICYPAA Detroit, MI 2002 - 45TH ICYPAA Louisville, KY 2003 - 46TH ICYPAA Portland, OR 2004 - 47TH ICYPAA Orlando, FL 2006 - 48TH ICYPAA New Orleans, LA 2007 - 49TH ICYPAA Los Angeles, CA 2008 - 50TH ICYPAA Oklahoma City, OK 2009 - 51ST ICYPAA Atlanta, GA 2010 - 52ND ICYPAA New York, NY 2011 - 53RD ICYPAA San Francisco, CA 2012 - 54TH ICYPAA St. Louis, MO 2013 - 55TH ICYPAA Phoenix, AZ 2014 - 56TH ICYPAA San Antonio, TX 2015 - 57TH ICYPAA Miami, FL The 58th ICYPAA 10 11 The 58th ICYPAA ICYPAA FORUM REGISTRATION Modeled after the quarterly Regional Forums hosted by GSO, the ICYPAA Forum is an opportunity for ICYPAA attendees to help keep the Advisory Council accountable to those they serve most directly — you.
