Fishers, IN (Behind Buffalo Wild Wings, 141st Street & SR37) City of Noblesville CONSUMER FIREWORKS ORDINANCE The City of Noblesville’s fireworks ordinance now states that consumer fireworks may now only be used in the Noblesville city limits during the following days and times: • Between the hours of 5pm and two hours after sunset on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3, July 5, July 6, July 7, July 8, and July 9. • Between the hours of 10am and 12 midnight on July 4 Both Fire Chief Ken Gilliam and Police Chief Kevin Jowitt support the fireworks ordinance: • statistics provided from the Indiana State Injury Report, • concerned citizens who have expressed their support for a change in the ordinance the fact that between 1 – 3 major structure fires occur in Noblesville every year as a result of consumer fireworks. First time violators of the ordinance will receive a warning from the NPD. Additional violations will result in citations. City of Noblesville public safety personnel are confident that these ordinance changes will result in a much safer community. • After all of your personal fireworks have been set off, everyone is encouraged to pickup the spent fragments left behind in the streets, on the sidewalks in front of their homes and/or anywhere else they may have landed, at your earliest convenience. This will prevent the plastics, sticks and cardboard debris from being washed into the storm water sewers and into to our creeks, streams, rivers and eventually our water supply — : ) Independence Day Neighborhood Party Come celebrate & join your friends and neighbors for an Independence Day PARTY on Saturday, July 3 on Carnation Drive! ALL residents of Sommerwood are invited to attend following the parade. Dinner is at 6:30 and fireworks start at 10:00. Meats, buns and dinnerware will be provided. Other items, such as, cash, CDs, portable radio devices, radar detectors and wallets are appealing as well. Here are some tips from the NPD: Don’t leave the keys in the vehicle. Lock the vehicle, even in your driveway. Consider locking valuables in your trunk or removing at night. Don’t leave burglar bait in plain sight. Extend this to your home trash; don’t leave the new computer-TV-VCR-Stereo-Xbox box in plain view in your trash can. Leaving these in plain sight says, BREAK IN HERE, we have good stuff. Put it in a trash bag, in the trash can. GOING GREEN IN NOBLESVILLE SERIES – YARD WASTE The phrase “going green” has become more and more common the last few years as citizens increase their knowledge of and efforts toward helping our environment. Although the most familiar methods of going green include things such as recycling, walking or biking instead of driving a car, etc., the City of Noblesville’s Clean Storm Water P r o g r am h e l p s e d u c a t e residents on other easy ways to personally “go green” and help our environment. Did you know that homeowners use ten times more chemicals per acre on lawns than farmers use on crops? Grass clippings, leaves, and branches are very high in nitrogen and phosphorus. If this yard waste is emptied into storm drains, blown out into the street, or dumped into Morse Reservoir, the White River, or other local water bodies, then it leads to excessive algae growth in those waterways. Here are a few ways that homeowners can help protect our waterways: Do not dump anything in storm drains. Sweep grass clippings, leaves, and fertilizers that get onto a driveway or sidewalk back onto your lawn. This will help to keep them out of storm drains. Use a mulching lawn mower: Leave grass clippings and leaves on the lawn. Run over them with your mower to cut them up further and then leave them there. They provide nutrients and are the best fertilizer for your lawn. Make and use compost: Dispose of lawn waste in compost piles. This results in a rich natural fertilizer for your plants or garden, allows for reuse of yard waste, and saves money. Visit www.compostguide.com for simple instructions. Each of us can take simple steps to improve our environment and the City of Noblesville hopes that residents will be mindful of how each of our actions affect our surroundings. For more information, contact Noblesville’s Clean Storm Water Program at (317) 770-5132 or visit www.cityofnoblesville.org/cleanwater. Grass Clippings Street Department does not pick up grass clippings. Grass clippings can be included with resident's trash as part of the resident's two 96 gallon cart limit. Overage bags can be purchased for anything over the two cart limit for solid waste removal to be picked up by Republic Services. Bags must weight 40 lbs or less. Only grass clippings may be taken to the Hamilton County Household Hazardous Waste Center at 1717 Pleasant Street. Clippings must be dumped out of bags and/or containers. Please contact Hamilton County Hazardous Waste Center at 776-4005 for business hours.
