have an annual meeting. Our
attempt failed because we did not
have a quorum. In actuality we
were 90% short of a quorum. So,
lets review the rules. People may

Use Caution:
Alternative Heating Sources
In 2002-2005, the leading factor
contributing to home heating fires (27%)
and deaths (53%) was heating equipment
too close to things that can burn, such as
upholstered furniture, clothing, mattress
or bedding. These statistics exclude fires
that were confined to a chimney, flue,
fuel burner or boiler. In 2005, heating
equipment was involved in an estimated
62,200 reported home structure fires,
670 civilian deaths, 1,550 civilian
injuries, and $909 million in direct
property damage. In 2005, most home
heating fire deaths (73%), injuries (64%),
and direct property damage (57%)
involved stationary or portable space
heaters. Chimneys and chimney
connectors accounted for the largest
share of home heating fires (36%). Space
heating poses a much higher risk of fire,
death, injury, and loss per million users
than central heating. Comparisons of risk
among different types of space heaters
or different types of central heating
show no clear, consistent, significant
difference. If you use other heating
equipment in your home, remember a
few extra tips:

Never leave your home with the heating
appliance on. Make sure it is off and
unplug the heating appliance when you
leave.

Keep all items at least 3 feet away from all
heating appliance.

Never use an extension cord—plug the
heating appliance directly into a wall
receptacle.

Do not use any heating appliance that
uses fuel such as Kerosene in your home.

Make sure your smoke detector has fresh
batteries. Also it is a good idea to have a
CD detector in your home.
Ignorance with love is better than wisdom without it.

Month‖, neighborhood summer pool party, etc. This is a chance to meet new neighbors, reacquaint with

With Valentine’s Day just around the
corner flowers may be in the future for a
lot of you. But, hey, who needs an excuse like
Valentine’s Day? Fresh flowers are a welcome
addition any time.
Here are some
suggestions for keeping your colorful blooms
looking fresh longer.
•
Re-cut the stems using a sharp knife or
shears. Cut at a slant and remove about
½‖ of stem. It is best if stems are
re-cut under water. Be careful to avoid
crushing the stem and keep the cut surface
from resting on the bottom of the vase.
Remove excess foliage.
•
Use warm, uncontaminated water. Water that
is 100 – 110 degrees is ideal and filtered or
distilled water is recommended.
•
•
Use a flower preservative in the water. When
the solution starts to get cloudy, it is time to
change it.
Avoid excessive heat or moving air. Do not
place flowers in direct sunlight, near a register
or on a television set, etc.
•
Keep flowers cold when not in use. It
is possible to double the life of your flowers
by placing them in a cold room or in the
refrigerator at night.
•
Do not mix fresh flowers with old or
damaged flowers or with fruits or vegetables. Damaged, aging flowers and many fresh
fruits and vegetables produce ethylene gas
that shortens fresh flower life.

Parking Concerns
It becomes very difficult, especially in the cul-de-sacs, to back out of driveways safely when
vehicles are parked in the street. The US mail will not be delivered to an address, if a vehicle is
too close to the mailbox. Snowplows do not discriminate. Also, if it is deemed necessary to
park on the street in the cul-de-sacs, position your vehicle along the curb, rather than parking
with the front end of your vehicle at the curb. Even though it is inconvenient at times, when all
possible, please park in your driveways. Your cooperation will be appreciated.

Dog Gone It!
The snow comes and goes, but the “doo” just keeps coming! Please be considerate to your neighbors.
When you take your pet for a walk, please carry something with you to collect the “droppings”, especially
along the sidewalks and in your neighbor’s yards. Not too many things worse than dragging in dog-doo on
your feet after playing outside and in the snow. Also, the common areas are a great place to exercise
your pet—please remember that neighborhood events will be scheduled soon. However, it isn’t such a
nice place to hang out unless you are into skipping over dog waste. Everyone will appreciate your
thoughtfulness. Also, please be sure to have your pet restrained on your daily walks. Thank you!

On 2/17, televisions stations will broadcast only
digital signals, ending the run of the TV system used
in the US for the past 55 years.
2. The digital television signal can transmit pictures
composed of up to 1,080 lines. That‟s a long way
from the first TV demonstrated in 1926—used 30
lines to create a coarse image.
3. Baird‟s TV looked like a peep-show device. His
invention was partly mechanical, relying on a spinning metal disk with a spiral of holes to chop the
images up for transmission.
4. Two years later, Baird demonstrated color TV, but B/
W TV ruled for decades. People who watched such

during the Super Bowl was $2.7 million—most
expensive airtime in the world.
12. Eighty years after the first experiment, the BBC
once again tested a 3-D TV system on 200 sports
fans watching a live rugby match.
13. In August 2006 NASA stated that it had lost all the
original tapes of Apollo 11‟s TV transmission.
14. The longest-running talk show is either Ireland‟s
Late-Late Show 1962, or The Tonight Show, which
began in 1954.
15. The debate over which show is the longest running
is because The Tonight Show’s format and style
didn‟t settle down until Johnny Carson‟s arrival a
few months after The Late-Late Show began airing.
16. When Sony started selling VCRs that taped TV
shows in the „70‟s, film studios sued it for promoting
copyright piracy. The Supreme Court ultimately
backed Sony, enshrining everyone‟s right to
time-shift.
17. The amount of video delivered by the internet and
viewed on computers is rapidly increasing: 7.5
billion video streams were watched in May 2008. Is
TV doomed?
18. Fifty years after her first televised Christmas
address to the people of the U.K, Queen Elizabeth
II launched her own YouTube channel.
19. About 36% of cell phone users can now watch
video beamed directly to their phones.
20. A survey of 20 countries revealed that CSI: Miami
is the most popular show on the planet.

will receive their diplomas during Noblesville High School's 134th annual
commencement exercise at 7 p.m. on
Friday, May 29, in the high school gym. A
baccalaureate service will be at 7 p.m. on
Thursday, May 28, at White River
Christian Church in Noblesville.

Two 15-day sessions of summer school
classes are scheduled. Session 1 will be
from June 2 - June 22. Session 2 will be
from June 23 - July 14 with no class on
July 3. Times each day are from 7:30 a.m.
