The rose is a rose,
The dear only knows
And was always a rose.
What will next prove a rose.
But the theory now goes
You, of course, are a roseThat the apple is a rose,
But were always a rose.
And the pear is,

In honor of Brittea's Life and dedicated love for the arts, Kindred Spirits and her
family have established the Brittea Scholarship Fund for Kindred Spirits. Recurring registrants are qualified to be nominated or may submit a letter of request for
consideration describing why you and/or the nominated child love(s) Kindred Spirits.
The KS Board reviews letters and the annual recipient of our Brittea Scholarship
Award will be notified by mail. Nominations and letters of request may be submitted
throughout the year.

Message
Kindred Spirits lost a dear friend and gained a beautiful
angel when Brittea Hirschi, daughter of Chandra Lovell
and Matt Rigby, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep
on December 20, 2008. This "very famous" artist is dearly
missed and we thank everyone who contributed to Kindred
Spirits on behalf of this remarkable eleven-year-old who
loved the KS studio. We are all better people for having
known and loved this wide eyed child.

Approximately two-thirds of the Kindred Spirits annual budget comes from in-kind
support and non-monetary donations. These gifts are important to Kindred Spirits
and there are many ways to support our work! All donations are tax dedictible.
Here are just a few supportive suggestions:
Sponsor a month of rent for the Kindred Spirits art studio!
Serve on committees to help coordinate special events and projects.
l Give store gift cards that can be used for art supplies and food for KS events.
(Michaels, Office Max, Discount School Supply, CostCo and others.)
l Sponsor tuition or partial tuition for a child.
l Purchase ink for our printer. (hp Color Laser Jet 2840: blk, cyan, mag, yellow)
l Order a roll of laminate for our laminator. (LX1200 Brother, A312.0 roll)
l Pass-on old, but working shop tools. Also, old long-sleeve work shirts make great smocks.
l Business owners can help in many ways: advertising, printing, old working equipment,
and discontinued papers are just a few possibilities.
l Even the smallest donations make a difference: liquid hand soap and cleaning supplies,
reams of copy paper, postage stamps...etc.
l Currently KS is wishing for a craft drill for making tiny holes in objects such as sea-shells
and an electric kiln compatible with clay and glass.

"Mom, why was Punch so mean to Judy?" A
very young child posed this question to her
mom several days after learning about the
classical Punch and Judy puppetry in the
KS studio. With this opening the child's mom
talked with her daughter about domestic
violence, "Well, not all daddies are good to
mommies," she told her daughter. "It's terribly sad when that happens." Unknowingly
the young girl's father, who was traveling
to Germany on business at the time, purchased a Punch puppet for his daughter who
then brought it into the KS studio to share.
Through roll playing the girl altered Punch's
ego and went to her mother later saying,
"Mom, Punch is very sorry for being so mean
to Judy and he's not going to be that way
anymore" For me, the Director of Kindred
Spirits, this is an especially remarkable KisS
moment where the arts are able to teach
great life lessons and instill valuable insight
in a most beautiful and creative manner.
