Fish Surf School are a Surf school based in Matosinhos beach that started through our love of the ocean.
Do you know why we choose FISH for our name? Just because Matosinhos was the largest city with canning
(sardines) and because the Portuguese word "fixe" (like fish in English) mean cool or good in Port slang.
Our school and surf coaches/instructors are certified by the Portuguese Surfing Federation.
Our surf coaches/instructors are constantly informed about the surf conditions and choose every day the ideal
beach to teach surfing, and we have a lot of Oporto surf spots to discover!
FISH Surf School is a company that is entirely specialized in surfing. It is run for and by surfers. Our Surf School it's
entirely based on teach people how to surf and it is dedicated only to perfection in the sport. Surf Camp
Accommodation is designed for people who want to learn how to surf or improve their surfing technique. Special
accommodation and course packages are also offered.

Many different courses to choose: We offer many different types of classes: classes for couples, intensive courses,
short courses, courses for the weekend and you can even try Sushi and a tour at famous portuguese "tascas"* with
us! Check out our different products, for sure you will find something that just fits perfeclty for you!
The first lesson starts with a simple theorical introduction followed by a quick warm up on the sand. Next everybody
is ready to go in the water and catch the first small waves, always with the instructors’ supervision. There is a break
to eat, relax and enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of our coast. Each lesson takes between one and a half to two
hours. Usually everybody is able to stand up on the second lesson.

Surfing: Experience pure joy while surfing with us - the connection between wave and surfer is unique and
breathtaking! Give it a go - you will love it if you have always liked the water and life on the beach. Surfing is an
ambitious sport but is connected to a chilled-out lifestyle. It is all about having fun.
The surf camp has a laid-back vibe and accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
At Oporto FISH Surf Camp there are surf camp packages and accommodations available for everyone and you have
the option to stay in one of our double rooms with private bathroom, shared dorm rooms for 8/6 persons or in
separate apartments (city flats), city suites with private bath room (for different prices). We have accommodation
at downtow, near airport and at beach, a great variety to have many options for your surf and stay .
Surf lessons: The surf instructors/coaches are qualified surf instructors and are educated in both surf practice as
well as theory . They offer you their knowledge and help you with tips and tricks on land and in the water.
The instructors are in the water with you, always helping you into the best waves of your life and not simply
observing from the beach. Oporto FISH Surf Camps enforces a ratio of one instructor per eight students and employ
an assistant for each instructor for extra safety, effectively giving a 2-8 ratio of teaching staff to students. Your
instructor and assistant will be assigned to your group for the duration of your stay meaning each day you can
achieve personal targets discussed with your instructor each lesson.
Includes all the equipment needed and suited for all levels of surfing.

Surf conditions in the area
Matosinhos in North Portugal is an exposed beach and reef break that has reasonably consistent surf and can work
at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the east. Waves just as likely from local windswells as
from distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the west. Waves at the beach are both lefts and
rights. Best around low tide
This beach is a sand bar with frequent sloppy waves. The swell size starts working at 1 meter and holds up to 2.5
meters. The waves come from right and left with a normal power.
The summers are pleasant here with water temperatures ranging from 12 degrees to about 19 degrees in the
summer and air temperatures ranging from 10 degrees in the winter to 30 degrees in the summer. You can get by
with just a pair of shorts or a shorty through the summer, in the winter months you need to suit up accordingly.
Matosinhos is located north west of Oporto looking out into the Atlantica Ocean. It houses the biggest artificial port
in Portugal and has long been associated both with fishing and sea transport industries. Today, Matosinhos is
geared towards tourism and its beach is regularly used throughout the year by surfers of all types and abilities. The
beach is medium sized and sandy with lots of space. The beach can be found easily on foot by leaving the metro
station and following the avenue west until you come to the beach. By car you simply follow the IC24 via Rapida to
Matosinhos.
There is plenty of free parking at this spot and the beach is only about a ten minute walk from the city center.
