We have been talking to the street lighting department who are sorting this out along with other nearby lighting issues. We reported the plethora of large plastic signs which appeared along the road and these have now been removed. 01452 501167 richard.graham.mp@ parliament.uk City Councillor Lise Noakes The roundabout sign behind the bus-stop 01452 610702 We are fed up with litter along the road and are working with council officers to remind KFC of their duty to clear litter. We have been urging that the white lines are repainted as quickly as possible following the resurfacing, particularly for the crossing. Some of this has been installed at Clock Tower Park. tarren.randle@ gloucester.gov.uk These pieces of equipment can be used by everyone, not just members of the Football Club and they are a great way of helping people to keep fit. City Councillor Lise Noakes and County Councillor Andrew Gravells view the installation of the gym equipment Some cutting back needed Work is being done to clear some of the vegetation in Clock Tower Park in the fenced off area where the grass and bramble is growing wild. This area is used mainly by dog walkers. The work is being done with full regard of the wildlife habitat but does need to be managed as the area is gradually becoming overgrown with bramble and there are areas that feel unsafe as lines of sight are not clear. The County Council launched the Active Together grants last year in a bid to increase the health and wellbeing of our communities by supporting local projects like this one. Cllr Andrew Gravells, Gloucestershire County Council Cabinet member for Public Health and Communities said, “I am really pleased the Active Together funding has been so well received and we are able to support great groups like Abbeymead Rovers FC. I hope lots of local residents will give this gym kit a try.” Better after a lick of paint Gloucester City Council staff often give up their own time to help with community projects. First the cattle were resident in the arboretum and now the sheep are in place doing their job. We love having them and as well as the work they do for us, they are so popular with visitors. Unfortunately however we may not be able to keep them due to the actions of a small minority of dog walkers. Dogs are allowed in the Arboretum but must be kept on leads. Sadly there have been a number of instances of dogs being let off their leads and chasing the sheep. The poor sheep are clearly terrified. There are police notices on display advising people to keep their dogs on leads. We appeal to everyone to abide by this so that the sheep can remain. Dry Balancing Pond in Barnwood Park will likely contain water You are likely to notice more water in the Barnwood Park Dry Balancing Pond from now on, especially after prolonged periods of heavy rain. It had been identified that the pond does not fill to anywhere near its full capacity of 16,000 cubic metres (about the same as 6.5 Olympic size swimming pools) which it should do in extreme weather conditions. Work has been done so that more surface water will flow into the pond during any rainfall. There will not be any flood risk to local properties if we do get heavy rain but rather more protection will be given to properties downstream. Notices have been put up to warn of likely water in the balancing pond. Cycling vital to help transport network thrive Local campaigner Judi Brown has welcomed recent improvements to road surfaces in the city and is pushing for further progress to be made on cycle routes in Barnwood — particularly along Abbeymead Avenue, Barnwood Road, Hucclecote Road, and where Eastern Avenue meets Metz Way. With Gloucestershire County Council updating the Local Transport Plan which will soon be out for full public review, Judi Brown has applauded the importance being placed on cycling. Judi commented, “One of the key items is a ‘Strategy for Cycling’. A number of schemes are already in place to encourage cycling across Gloucestershire, including: Local campaigner Judi Brown inspects a dangerous fissure where Metz Way crosses Eastern Avenue A ‘Barriers to Cycling’ study which has suggested a number of possible schemes for the future; A national study of cycling barriers on the strategic road network — a local priority from this is the A40 between M5 J11 and the Longford roundabout; Workplace Travel Planning as part of the 2015/16 Thinktravel programme still ongoing with businesses in Gloucestershire to help encourage the use of sustainable travel methods; The County Council Officer who is in place to encourage cycling is working with a number of schools in Gloucester to help encourage children to travel actively to school; Events are ongoing with the Gloucester Bike Project to allow residents to get their bikes tuned up for free and to collect sustainable travel information including cycle maps and guides — these are also available on the Thinktravel website. We’re very grateful to the County Council Arborologist who assessed that the trees are perfectly healthy but on the large side and so arranged to have their height reduced.
