We thank you and salute you for your service and your sacrifices which have allowed us to remain a free nation. May God bless you and keep you. 1 Freedom isn’t free…. "I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts, that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.“ Letter from President Abraham Lincoln to Mrs. Lydia Bixby" (November 21, 1864), "The men of Normandy had faith that what they were doing was right, faith that they fought for all humanity, faith that a just God would grant them mercy on this beachhead or the next. It was the deep knowledge -- and pray to God we have not lost it -- that there is a profound moral difference between the use of force for liberation and the use of force for conquest.“ President Ronald Reagan “The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.” President John F. Kennedy Save the date for these upcoming events: • July K of C Meeting: Wednesday, July 8, 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., St John Hall • K of C Officers Meeting: Wednesday, July 15, 7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m., St. John Hall • Blood Drive & Pancake Breakfast: Sunday, July 19, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. • Corporate Communion Masses: Sunday, August 30, 10:00 a.m. Mass A Message from the Grand Knight Brother Knights! It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of our Brother and Sir Knight Dei Castilleja who passed away on Wednesday, 06/10/2015, in the morning hours. Dei was in transit to the hospital via EMS when he passed. It is a huge loss for our Council and Assembly as well as for our parish community. Dei is and will be missed but not forgotten. It is also a time of celebration for Dei has gone home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Dei has served out his mission here on earth, the mission Christ blessed him with and now reaps the benefits of a job well done. We are all gathered physically and spiritually as one in Jesus Christ's name. We humbly ask on bended knee and bowed heads for Christ's mercy, peace and comfort for Dei and his wife Yvonne. Lord, You told us that You are among us when two or more are gathered in Your name. Lord, we are gathered for we know You wait and listen to our prayers. We also thank You for the gift of Dei while he was with us here on earth. We, as his Brothers, return him back to You and thank You again for everything You have blessed us with in our lives. Brother Knights! Juan Carlos Lopez, our Brother Knight, lead a team of parishioner men that some are Brother Knights and others are Spanish ACTS Brothers, that prepared a steps foundation and laid concrete to form a stairway from St. John's Hall to the Old Church. The project was completed on Friday the 19th. This project was a Knights of Columbus and Mens Spanish ACTS team effort. The Knights of Columbus Council 8521 humbly thank these Brothers for answering the call to help, aid and assist our parish, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church-Honey Creek. Their commitment to God and our parish is evident through their words, actions and deeds. It is also apparent these men are emblematic of what St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church-Honey Creek parishioner men are made of, true and committed followers of Jesus Christ. In addition, many of us have thought about improving the walkway that once was there but the timing was not right. I would like to recognize Sam Haines in standing up in council suggesting this project. We all did not know the time was right, it was HIS time and so it was constructed and built for all. Thank you Sam for delivering HIS message. Juan Carlos (JC)! Please translate this email into Spanish for our Spanish ACTS Brothers to know of our, Knights of Columbus, thankfulness and recognition. Yes, the chances are you do need life insurance, whether it’s for paying funeral expenses, replacing income, providing money for your child’s education, protecting your home or many other reasons. Unfortunately, too many people don’t know the value of a life insurance policy and go without any or adequate coverage. Is the Knights of Columbus financially strong? Yes. The Order is one of the strongest organizations from which you can purchase insurance, as assessments by independent evaluators consistently show. Our margin of safety is among the best in the industry. The Knights of Columbus annually receives the highest ratings given by the A.M. Best Company and Standard & Poor’s. What exactly are dividends? Dividends are the divisible surplus the Order has left over after paying expenses and setting aside the necessary amounts to assure that future benefits are fully funded. Dividends develop from favorable experience, such as people living longer than expected or from interest earnings higher than those guaranteed in their policy. Remember, the payment of dividends cannot be guaranteed. If I have questions about my insurance policy, or have an interest in learning more about the products the Order offers, whom should I ask? Your professional Knights of Columbus agent can answer any questions you may have. Even if you are not currently a policyholder, a field agent, who is also a brother Knight is available to meet with you at your convenience the needs of you and your family.
