You may drop your check into the collection plate or leave it with Laurie in the office. Any questions, please call Marilyn at 533-7108. Get ready for worship and praise extraordinaire!!! What are you passionate about? Your family? A sports team? Your career? Your community? A hobby? People in need? YOU OUGHTA BE IN PICTURES!!! In case you missed the email sent last week, we would like to be able to use more photos in promotional materials and on our website. It is much easier to do this if we have a release on file rather than having to check with each person as we go. Many of you have already filled these out for your children at Sunday School registration, but now we're asking for yours! Please fill out one of the bright pink blank forms on the table in the Narthex and leave the completed form in Laurie’s mail folder outside the office. God gave us the capacity to get “all fired up” about all these things. Join us at The Fireplace in October as we explore how this ability intersects with our faith! Upcoming Opportunities • Sunday, October 30th is Children’s Sabbath/Bible Sunday! Our worship service that day will be led by the children. Any child or youth interested in participating in our Children’s Sabbath service should attend a brief meeting in the sanctuary today following worship! If you would like your child to participate in the service, please let Marilyn or Laurie in the office know by Monday, October 17th. A draft bulletin will be distributed to all participants on Sunday, October 23rd. • Parents of third graders! Here at LUMC, on Children’s Sabbath we also celebrate Bible Sunday. Bibles are presented to children in the third grade during the worship service. We are asking parents to please let us know by contacting the church office ([email protected] or 533-4070) by Friday, October 14th if you would like your child to receive a Bible. • Interested in exploring what becoming a member of LUMC might mean for you? Then sign up to attend our “New Member Orientation” on Sunday, October 23rd at 11:30 a.m.! At this session we'll explore: If you are one of our snowbirds who heads to warmer climes for the winter, please let Laurie in the office know so that we can make sure you continue to receive your Sunbeam and any other important info from LUMC! Thanks to all who have contributed items for Church World Service kits and postage this year! Since June 1st, we have assembled and sent 207 School Kits, 155 Health Kits, and 41 Baby Kits to the regional office! NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! In order to comply with the United Methodist Church’s “Safe Sanctuaries” policy, there must always be two people in the nursery with the children. Please help by volunteering to help out in the nursery on Sunday mornings. It doesn’t have to be every week – just sign up on the volunteer sheet in the nursery for when you’re available! All volunteers must have undergone “Safe Sanctuaries” training. Contact nursery coordinator Sheila Bowman at 342-3985 or [email protected] for more information! † How is church membership part of my spiritual journey? † What are the blessings and challenges of church membership? † What is the mission of Lansing United Methodist Church? † How is the church organized to carry out its mission? † What gifts and skills do I have to share? Attending in no way obligates you to become a member, but will help you decide if church membership is right for you! If you plan to attend, please RSVP to the church office by Monday, October 17th ([email protected] or 533-4070). QUILT BY FAITH RETREAT AT CASOWASCO THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6th – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9th Quilters understand with every stitch how scraps of fabric can come together to make something wonderfully new and striking with a little time, imagination, and love. Ruth’s story of sacrifice, difficult decisions, and faithfulness reminds us that in God’s design, even the smallest scraps or most frayed fragments of our lives can be fashioned into something new, complete, and beautiful. The Quilt by Faith Retreat is a weekend dedicated to providing women a quiet space away from daily routines to work on favorite quilting projects, connect with other quilters of faith, and invest in their relationship with God. This weekend will include times of devotion, a trip to a local quilt shop, a visit from a massage therapist, a service project benefiting children, and lots of time to sew. Qualified leaders will teach a variety of mini classes on quilting techniques. All levels of quilting experience are welcome. Weekend packages range from $80 - $209. For more information call (315) 364-8756 or email [email protected]. FLOOD RELIEF CLEAN-UP TEAMS NOW BEING ORGANIZED! Clean-up teams are now being allowed into areas affected by flooding. We will begin forming teams at LUMC. Please contact LUMC Flood Relief Coordinator Marcia Lynch if you are interested in helping! You can reach Marcia at 273-0216 or [email protected]. Cortland UMC is planning to send a team to the Binghamton area next Saturday, October 8th to aid in clean-up efforts. The team will leave Cortland UMC (734 State Route 222) at 8:30 a.m. and return by 4:30 p.m. ALL IN THE DISTRICT ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE! Please RSVP to the church (607-756-5426) no later than October 6th so transportation can be arranged. ASSISTANCE FOR FLOOD VICTIMS CONTINUES: CLEANING BUCKETS AND HEALTH KITS STILL NEEDED! Thanks to all who have already given so generously! The outpouring of help from LUMC and the surrounding community has already allowed us to send several loads of supplies down to the Binghamton area. But sadly the need continues: Cleaning Buckets are a priority! Assemble a complete bucket or bring in some of the needed supplies - every little bit helps! The Conference also has an updated list of urgently needed items: Heavy-duty facemasks (N95 grade) Plastic storage bins Heavy-duty metal rakes Push brooms Battery-operated lights and headlamps Tarps Bleach Power washers Generators To find out about the current status of UMC relief efforts, please click here to visit the Local Emergency Flood Relief page on the LUMC website (or click on the link on the homepage of the LUMC website at www.lansingunited.org). Click on the icons on the right side of the LUMC Flood Relief page for instructions on how to assemble much needed Cleaning Buckets and Health Kits. For those who can’t assemble complete kits but would like to contribute, lists of needed supplies are available in the Narthex. All supplies or completed buckets/kits can be dropped off at LUMC. If you are interested in becoming part of an emergency response team to aid in the affected areas, or in helping to organize the collection and distribution efforts, please contact Marcia Lynch (273-0216 or [email protected]), who is coordinating things here at LUMC, or Laurie in the office. Listen to Marcia’s WHCU interview about LUMC’s flood relief efforts on our website! Click on the link in the flood relief area on our homepage. Please keep the flood victims and those who are assisting them in your prayers as they all work to recover from this disaster. RUMMAGE NEEDS YOU!
