Fall 2010: Message From the District Representative
Greetings Brethren of Talented Tenth District,
As summer has come to a close and the Fraternity as a whole prepares to
steer in a new direction, we as the Tenth District will be instrumental in
that journey. We begin with the upcoming Fall Council Meeting in
Madison, WI. It is here the executive council will receive current
information to take back to their respective chapters to begin the journey
at the grassroots level. In addition to taking the Fraternity in a new
direction, we intend to take each chapter efficiency and productivity in a
new direction by providing workshops that will focus on leadership,
parliamentary procedure, and protocol.

should also be reminded that we are observing Breast Cancer Awareness
and Domestic Violence during the month of October. And while on the
subject of issues in our communities, I bid each and every chapter my
very best as we all prepare to conduct Achievement Week Celebrations/
Founders’ Banquets across the District and the country as we
acknowledge “service”. May God’s grace continue to be upon this great
Fraternity.

NAACP & OMEGA - Not Just Speaking Truth to Power, But SHOWING It
communities and remind the nation’s leadership that
the 2010 election matters.
We’ve read about what beloved departed Brothers,
Roy Wilkins & Ben Hooks did through the NAACP,
and we honor the field work done by Brothers Jesse
Jackson Sr. and Vernon Jordan in the 1960’s. NOW is
our time to lead this generation’s social change agents.
Let’s do more than the minimum mandate of chapter
and individual NAACP memberships, let’s get excited,
get involved, and give your OMEGA best to this
election season.
Brothers of Omega:
Regards,
We need your ENERGY, ENTHUSIASM and
ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT in the next month for
Voter’s registration, phone banks, door-to-door
canvassers, Election Day volunteering and assistance
with transportation on Election Day. But KNOW
that you’re NOT alone. Your friendly neighborhood
NAACP branch already has a road-map for you, so
don’t reinvent the wheel.
The NAACP has launched its “Let’s Do It Again
2010” voter empowerment campaign. This civic
engagement campaign is a national grassroots
movement designed to spread the word about the
importance of the 2010 midterm elections, increase
civic participation rates nationally and promote the
long-term participation of African Americans in the
civic and political life of their communities.
I invite you all to seek out your local branch, and if
you don’t know where the closest one is, please
contact me at [email protected]. A complete
Midwest NAACP Branch directory has been posted to
the 10th District Yahoo groups, and has been emailed
to your chapter Basileus and KRS.
Many of us are just returning from an INCREDIBLE
weekend in Washington, D.C, where we showed our
STRENGTH in unity at the OneNation Working
Together mobilization rally. Omegas from all over the
country joined NAACP branches and hundreds of
civic and community organizations to wake up our

Chicago - In the city of Chicago,
Rho Gamma Gamma Chapter
(Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc)
seems to be very popular
amongst those familiar with
Omega Men. So, it was no great
surprise when the chapter
decided to invite interested men
to the Informational the response
that occurred. The
Informational was rather packed
with men interested in becoming
members of one of the Greatest
organizations in the world –
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Of course, everyone can not be
selected.
Through the official Membership
Selection Process (MSP), Rho
Gamma Gamma Chapter is
proud to announce Twelve
Wanted – Dead or Alive. The
chapter is
expecting great
things from these twelve (12)
men, whose ages range from
twenty four (24) to sixty three
(63). A hearty Congratulations
goes out to: Kyree Blackwell,
Carl Williams, Johnie Lawrence,
Aaron Eldridge Sr, Alton Smith,
Henry Thomas, Brian Colar,
Thomas Revish, McKinley
Marseille, Larnce White Sr,
Leonard Hoyles, and Michael
Singleton Jr
The above names are those of
“Twelve Wanted – Dead or
Alive”, which were duly initiated
July 17, 2010. The Rho Gamma
Gamma Chapter desires that
everyone will welcome them into
the Black Greek Letter
Organization fold with open
arms. Rho Gamma Gamma
Chapter also hopes these twelve
men will continue to show the
same enthusiasm five years from
now and beyond that they have
displayed trying to gain entry
into Omega.
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters
has operated under the belief that inherent in
every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in
life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer
supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big
Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches
between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children
(“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities
across the country. The program promises to
develop positive relationships that have a direct
and lasting effect on the lives of young people.
The men of Nu Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity Inc. welcomes the Big Brothers Big
Sisters Program. Cody Mason a part of BBBS
was well received at the annual picnic of the Bros
of Nu Chi Chapter in E. St. Louis ,IL.
Brother Andrew Bailey, an adult volunteer of
BBBS visits the St. Clair County fair in Illinois
with little brother Cody. This was Cody’s first
time to have been to a fair and the first time to
view farm animals. The evening spent with Cody
was full of excitement and very informative to
both Cody and his birth brother D’Angelo.
There are times sibling tags along to attend
various outings.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to help
children reach their potential through one-to-one
relationships with mentors that have a
measurable impact on youth.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Vision is successful
mentoring relationships for all children who need
and want them, contributing to brighter futures,
better schools, and stronger communities for all.

N U CH I A N N UAL BBQ - A BIG SUCC ESS
The men of Nu Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., sponsored their annual picnic at The O’fallon Metro
Park. This family oriented park is designed with several large seating areas, a soccer filed and three baseball diamonds.
The men of Nu Chi brought their family, friends and other invited guest. The neo Brothers were responsible for the
cooking and music entertainment was surrender by the Bro. Kenneth McIntyre who serves as the chapters Keeper of
Finance. Thanks to Brother John Freeman who has been the committee chair for the picnic for the last several years.
Bro. Freeman and the committee members made this years be a great success.
An interesting documentation that was found by one of the Brothers of the chapter. The title of the article was “Picnic
vs. Barbecue” by Davis, William C, A Little known Black History Fact.
This information can also be found in the African American Archives at the Smithsonian Institute. Although not taught
in American learning institutions and literature, it is noted in most Black history professional circles and literature, that
the origin of the term "picnic" derives from the acts of lynching African -Americans.
The word "picnic" is rooted from the whole theme of "Pick A Nigger." This is where individuals would "pic" a Black
person to lynch and make this into a family gathering.
There would be music and a "picnic" ("Nic") being the white acronym for "nigger." Scenes of this were depicted in the
movie "Rosewood". As a result of the information we should
choose to use the word "Barbecue," “outing”, or cookout
instead of the word "picnic".
However in spite of the information discovered the men of Nu
Chi Chapter had an enjoyable evening. Thanks to the Good
Lord things are not like they use to be!

The Chicago Football Classic Tailgate
was held Saturday, September 18,
2010, and this year was filled with
even more excitement. The Tailgate
got an early start despite the rain,
thunder, and lightening. “Thunder,
Lightening, Wind and Rain....” Some
may remember that phrase from the
1986 Conclave Marchdown, and it
never gets old. While in the South
Parking Lot of Soldiers Field, the
shoes were coming in for all the men
and women in the area. I hear nearly
500 pounds of shoes were collected.
That's great because the Chicago
Football Classic has culminated into a
Social Action event as well. The
shoes are going to be cleaned and will
be shipped to a needy third world
country. Share Your Soles (http://
shareyoursoles.org/) has partnered
with this annual effort, which is a
joint effort and dubbed as a “Party
with a Purpose”.
Kudos to all the 2010 Neophytes that
stepped up and put in the work
needed throughout the day and in
preparation. It was great seeing the
Neophytes working together from the
different Chicago-Area chapters and
sharing the load. It was great
seeing the Neophytes work
together to get the setup just
right. General (Brother) Mandel
"Hustle Man" Williams has outdone
himself this year with the fanfare,
decorations, and music line-up. All of
the DJ's were Omegas. Some of
them known throughout the country.
Check out the line-up: DJ
Undercover, DJ 6XL, DJ Teach One,
DJ Continental, DJ Sean Long, DJ
Gray Hound. The music was various
Genres (Old School to Hip Hop to
R&B to House). Great Music, Great
Time, and most of all Great Service
to the world community.
The teams playing were the
Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils
and the Alcorn State Brave. Alcorn
was a bit too much for the Valley on
the gridiron, but Valley took home the
Battle of the Bands trophy. Next year
is 2011, and the Brothers of the
Chicago-Area plan to do it big once
again.
Chicago-Area Omega Coalition – Retreat
2010 / One Omega
~ Submitted by Brother LeMarr Ketchens
On Saturday, September 25, 2010, the first Chicago-Area Omega Coalition
Retreat was held. This was a creation/event that has been in the making for
over 3 years. The event was based on the theme One Omega – meaning all
of the Chicago-Area Omegas work together as one. Part of the drive was
and is to be more supportive of each chapter and to try harder not to plan events on the same dates. With that in mind, Calendar
Year 2011 is pretty much mapped out. So, know that there will be plenty events planned as Joint Events and all Brothers will be
supporting. Things like: Blood Drives (Health Fairs), Picnic (Cookouts), and Golf Outings to name a few.
The chapters that were participating: Chi Lambda Lambda, Iota, Mu Xi, Nu Pi, Rho Gamma Gamma, & Sigma Omega. All of
the chapters had leadership there and all the chapters were very enthused and onboard with this outstanding Planning Session
amongst “Friends”. The location of this joyous event was in the wonderfully appointed Sheraton Suites – Elk Grove Village.
This was well worth the time an effort to put together. Special kudos go out the all the participating chapters and their leadership.
Respect and admiration go out to the good Brothers who took the time to be facilitators/presenters. Lastly, Brother John Moore,
Chair of the Committee, was adamant about getting this in the books and Brother Willie Lewis, the Task Master, made sure all
facilitators/presenters were up to speed, and he kept everyone on task. The "Process Works".
Brothers plan to keep the enthusiasm and move Omega to another level in celebration of 100 years.
Zeta Phi Celebrates 85 Years
Indianapolis – On Saturday, June 12, 2010, the Brothers of Zeta Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. gathered inside
the Grand Hall Building on the grounds of the!Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, IN, to begin a year-long
commemoration of the Chapter’s 85th Anniversary. The day began with a Seniors Breakfast that brought together more than 50
Omega Men representing three generations from around the country to recall and recount the rich history of the Chapter that
spans eight and a half decades of excellence, leadership, and uplifting service to Central Indiana community, the 10th District,
and to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Evidence of that excellence and leadership is the fact that Zeta Phi has produced three
past Grand Basilei (and later became home to another), more than any other single chapter since it was chartered in April 29,
1925, including the 31st Grand Basileus, Brother Burnel E. Coulon.
Brother Burnel E. Coulon (Lambda Epsilon, Winter 1950) was in attendance, and blessed the Brothers with tremendous words
of wisdom and encouragement, as did Brothers Charles E. Harry, IV (Zeta Phi, Spring 1948) and William Malone (Zeta Phi,
Spring 1949), all of whom shared history of the Chapter and our beloved Fraternity from the perspective of their combined 183
years in Omega.
Later that evening, many Greeks and non-Greeks in Indianapolis came out to help Zeta Phi celebrate its 85th by attending a
soirée also held in the Grand Hall. The affairs was befitting of a Que Party, and put a cap on an all-around good day! The
Seniors Breakfast, planned to be annual event, and soirée served to kick-off a year
of commemoratory events to mark the 85th Anniversary of Zeta Phi Chapter that
will culminate with the Founders’ Banquet.
Committee Chairs Brothers Tim Brown and Terry Strickland led the efforts of
many Brothers, including Zeta Phi’s eight Neos, to execute an excellent plan. Stay
tuned for more to come from Zeta Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Relay for Life 2010
- Operation
Omega Uplift
On June 19th, the Brothers of
Tau Kappa Kappa
(Southfield, MI) and Nu
Omega (Detroit) chapters
partnered with the American
Cancer Society’s “Relay for
Life” to fight against cancer.
This annual life changing
event gives people in
communities across the globe
a chance to celebrate the lives
of cancer survivors, remember
loved ones lost in the battle,
and help fund research to find
a cure for the disease.
Taking place on the campus of
Marygrove College, a host of
organizations showcased their
talents and resources to
accomplish a common goal of
“Making the 2010 Relay For
Life the Biggest One Yet!”
Through the support and
hard work of the
brotherhood, TEAM
OMEGA raised a total of
$3,352 towards this year’s
grand total of $91,597! The
Brothers show of enthusiasm,
hospitality, and true
commitment to uplift the
community earned them the
ACS “Most Spirited Award”!
Operation Omega Uplift On Saturday, July 31st the
Brothers of Tau Kappa
Kappa chapter conducted
Operation Omega Uplift at
the Children’s Center. The
mission was to help support
the Children’s Center Child
Welfare & Foster Care service
cook-out from 9am to 3 pm.
The Omega Uplift was a very
simple mission for the
Chapter by setting up tables,
chairs, cooking, serving and
clean-up. The Brothers started
the set-up around 9:45am
helping the center get
everything in place before the
event started. The center had
about 150+ kids and adults
come out to the event. This
was a good event and the
Children’s Center staff was
pleased with the support from
the chapter.
"Everywhere I go I am a
representation of my frat and my frat
is a representation of me," he said. "I
know I'm expected to be a leader in
everything I do whether it's academics
or partying."
Omega Psi Phi Returns
to Campus
It's been six years since Omega Psi Phi
members, better known as the "Ques,"
have strolled UDM's campus. But
they're back and ready to take their
rightful place among the Divine Nine,
the historically Black Greek letter
organizations that make up the
National Pan-Hellenic Council, each
rich in history.
And it all starts with one.Danny
Preston, inducted into the fraternity
this past spring, is known for his
athletic ability as a UDM lacrosse
player. Now he wants to show off his
Que ability by breeding a new Omega
Psi Phi.
Most people wouldn't think of Preston
as the stereotypical outspoken and inyour-face Omega Psi Phi member. But
that's just the hybrid of the Ques that
will be taking over, he said. "The
campus is not ready for the nasty Que
dog that hops around with no shirt,"
he said. "There's a time and place for
everything."
So what is it about the Ques that
strikes the interest of this unlikely
candidate? "The level of enthusiasm is
what attracted me," said Preston. The
Ques are reputed to be one of the
most outgoing of the National Pan
Hellenic Council fraternities.
Lynita Taylor, a senior, showed her
support by attending the probate show.
Probate shows are traditional
presentations or "coming out parties"
for newly inducted members. "The
probate was extravagant to say the
least…," she said. "I'm geeked for the
Ques coming back. This campus
might actually get hype now!" There is
a lot of excitement among black
students anticipating the return.
"Omega's goal is to restore black
student life as we know it by making
more men whose leadership and
enthusiasm can outshine the masses of
already established Greeks," according
to the organization.
UDM alum Nathan Blakely is one of
many supporting Omega being
reestablished on campus."Black
fraternities all represent something
different," he said, "and I think it's a
good thing they're coming back to
UDM because the campus could use
more diversity in all aspects." Added
Preston, "Many don't know about
Omega, and this level of leadership
and enthusiasm some may not be
ready for."
I Have A Story To Tell
Detroit, MI - Brother Marsialle Arbuckle life has been full of tragedy and triumph, pain and glory, sorrow and celebration.!
Throghtout this work Marsialle chronicles various events of his life and the impact those events had on him, his family,
relationships and the world around him. In his new book the reader is led through the twists and turns that life can create.! The
reader will be emotional moved by the vivid descriptions of traumatic episodes that are life and death battles for survival.
The book is intended to stimulate the mind and provoke discussion with a review of the various aspects of Marsialle's life.!
Those that are part of the Foster Care System and/or from a dysfunctional family dealing with the ravages of substance abuse
will be better informed and motivated from this book.! Individuals and families dealing with cancer, heart disease, vascular
disease and other catastrophic health issues will be uplifted and inspired by the book.! This book demonstrates the awesome
power of love, understanding and prayer.
The creation of this book "I Have A Story To Tell" brought about the establishment of The Center for Urban Young & Family
Development.! Some of the Centers key elements include:! Youth Workforce, Life Skills Development, Substance Abuse
Prevention, Health Management and Community Activism.! Brother Arbuckle in his work with youth in Foster Care had a
vision to intergrate group discussions with academic and skill development, i.e. Tutoring, Creation of a Five Year Life Plan and
Mentoring.! He believes these elements along with an introduction to various experiences will develop alternative interests.!
These combined will influence and impact various decisions and actions on an individual, family and the community for a
positive change.
TO DAY ' S L EADERS AWARDED
Detroit, MI - The Detroit Omega Foundation, Inc. (DOFI) continued its tradition of awarding college scholarships to deserving
students leaders who will be enrolling this fall 2010 at a historically black college or university.! A successful academic record along
with evidence of community service, letters of recommendation and financial need are the basis of awarding the scholarships.!
Each scholarship is valued at $5,000 and is renewable over four years if scholars maintain full-time status along with a mentoring
relationship with a DOFI board member and a former DOFI Scholar to ensure success.
!
Robert Thornton, Board Chairman of Black Family Development, Inc. served as Master of Ceremony and Michael Fox, Jr.,
Student Services Assistant Director at Siena Heights University and 2000 DOFI Scholar headlined the William A. McGill
Scholarship and Awards Luncheon as the Keynote Speaker held on June 19th in Southfield, Michigan at the St. John Banquet and
Confernce Center.! "Empowering Young African American Males through Education" was this year's theme.
!
"DOFI is committed to the legacy of Bill McGill and helping students during these tough economic times is what we do," said
Charles E. Allen, Board Chairman for DOFI.! "This class has some of the most diverse academic talent and community service

Epsilon Rho Annual
Family Picnic
Minneapolis, MN – Each year Epsilon
Rho takes time to fellowship as a family
at the annual family picnic. The picnic
was a success, as it was open to family
and friends alike. The venue the
chapter chose was Brookview Park in
Golden Valley. The picnic began at
12:00 PM and extended into the
evening. The energy from this event
was evident in that many Brothers,
their wives and children who were in
full participation. There were plenty of
games and food available. The menu
was highlighted by Black Angus
hamburgers, beef hotdogs and chicken.
Xi Chapter’s Purple
Invasion
Minneapolis, MN – The Brothers of Xi
Chapter have done it again. They
managed to orchestrate a party that
became the de facto official back to
school party of the year.
Credit must be given to the Brothers of
Sigma Lamda Beta for partnering with
Xi Chapter to make this event such a
success. Both fraternities publicized the
party by passing out fliers, connecting
with hundreds of people through social
networking. The purple invasion
became just that, an invasion from both
organizations. In just a week, it was
rare that any student didn’t hear of the
upcoming party. It’s ensuring when
one attempts to give random students
fliers and they reply, “No need, I have
one. I’m already in there!”
Much conversation was had around the
state of the fraternity and the role that
our illustrious Chapter was going to
play through the remainder of this year
and into our Centennial. Brother
Robert “BJ” Browne initiated as the
event DJ and placing the exclamation
on the music portion of this event was
Brother Burroughs. Consistently in
support of the Brothers of “The Star of
the North” chapter were our beautiful
sisters from Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc.’s Alumnae Chapter. The
ladies joined the festivities with more
than fellowship; they donated
additional food for the grill and plenty
of conversation for the brotherhood.
The party couldn’t have been a success
without Vance McCain of 3way
Entertainment working as the DJ. His
musical wit and impeccable ability to
set the environment for any group
makes him one of Minnesota’s finest.
The night was full of exciting memories
as older Omega Men came to show
their support. People had fun. Drinks
were bought, Greek organizations
strolled and the Omegas of course set
out tons of hops.
After about four hours of nonstop
amusement, students left the premises
asking when the next extravaganza was
going to be. Neither organization can
simply give out such information but
one thing is for sure, the fans cannot
and will not be let down.
Epsilon Rho’s School
Supplies Drive
Minneapolis, MN – On August 28, 2010,
the Brothers of Epsilon Rho Chapter
continued to promote scholarship amongst
the Heritage Park Neighborhood in
Minneapolis. The Brotherhood pulled
together and raised almost $500 worth of
school supplies for the youth in this
neighborhood prior to the first day of
school. This effort was lead by Epsilon
Rho’s Basilus, Bro. Charles Vickers. The
supplies raised for the children ranged
from pencils to back packs and were
immediately put to use, as the Brothers
will be using these resources to support a
regular after school tutoring program for
the students in this local community.
O M E G A P S I P H I G O L F TO U R N A M E N T
Minnesota - As the capstone event for “Omega Weekend”, the Brothers of Epsilon Rho Chapter executed their annual golf
tournament. The tournament was held at Braemar Golf Course in Edina, MN. This year the tournament was conducted in
collaboration with the local Twin Cities Chapter of the National Black MBA Association. The mission for this event was to
fellowship with the brotherhood and other professionals in the Twin Cities area and ultimately raises funds for scholarships.
Planning for the tournament began in January and obviously concluded on tournament day, August 30, 2010 at 1:00 PM. The
purpose of the partnership was to achieve several outcomes:
• The Omegas and NBMBAA have similar programs geared towards African-American youth. NBMBAA and the Omega’s
Heritage Park programs are geared to creating access and opportunities to enrich the lives of underserved students.
• The partnership creates greater access to a wider network for sponsorships and an opportunity for an increased number of
golfers from past Omega tournaments.
• The Partnership creates shared organizational responsibility for planning the event.
The Brothers who participated in this joint committee were, Bro. Robert Toatley, Bro. James Burroughs, Bro. Jeff Taylor, Bro.
Damion Sanders and Bro. Alex Tittle. The total committee consisted of 8 participants and attracted exactly 82 golfers. This
collaborative event brought a number of Fortune 500 companies together in support of both organizations. These companies
include, but are not limited to Allianz, United Health Group, United Hospital Services, Super Valu, Spire, United Way, Del Monte,
Jostens and a host of other companies in support of promoting scholarship to the youth in our local communities. Awards were
distributed during the dinner, for the “the longest drive” and “best score” to name a few. Overall the tournament was an enormous
success as it raised over $32,000 to be shared between Epsilon Rho and NBMBAA. The success of this event shows that the
Brothers in Minnesota are about their business and take the future of our youth very serious!
MCAE Fair: Greek Showcase
Minneapolis, MN – Tuesday, August 31st marked a special day for the rich culture of Greek organizations on the University of
Minnesota campus. At first glance, an incoming freshman will perceive the U of M as simply a predominantly white institution.
However, the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence (MCAE) made sure to introduce incoming students to the Brothers of
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. (Xi Chapter), Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and newly founded
multicultural fraternity, Sigma Lamda Beta Fraternity Inc.
Each organization possessed stirring performances that kept the audience at the edge of their seats. Although Xi Chapter left the
crowd with the liveliest, and ground-shaking show, it is imperative to mention that the purpose of this event was a success. Students
who were in attendance witnessed another side of the campus life. That is to say, perceptions other than the dominant white
student body came to light.
MCAE seeks to educate its community, students especially, about the true value of education when diversity is in the midst of it. It
is not only important to have people of different races and colors, but a diversity of minds and ideas is what entices the student to
continue to learn.
The Brothers of Omega Psi Phi understand these principles as one of our cardinal principles, scholarship, implies.
Scholarship means that we as men, women, boys, and girls continue to seek knowledge and scholarship attainment in our daily
lives. This exceeds the boundaries of the classroom and makes continual learning (whether it be books, musical instruments, or
even being a more productive citizen) a philosophy for living.
In conclusion, the Greek Showcase hosted by MCAE has inspired new students to take advantage of what college has to offer.
Rather than focusing on one aspect of college life, exploring the different student groups and programs is what ignites us all to
continue learning in our lives. Link for Xi Chapter Performance: Click Here

Vote or Die
The Brothers of Kappa Phi Chapter
(Milwaukee, WI.) performed one of the newest
mandated programs, when they exercised their
civic duty in adopting a three ward voting poll
for the September 2010 primary elections.
!
!
The voting poll had to be staffed with 3 election
inspectors and 3 chief inspectors for each polling
site. Each election inspector had to attend a two
hour training session, and the chief inspectors a
five hour training session, prior to working the
election polls.
The voting poll had to be opened at 7am sharp
and closed at 8pm in the evening, so the Brothers
had a full day performing there civic duties.
