Inroduction
In many countries, role of Veterinary
Services has been extended to include
subsequent stages of the “farm to fork”
food chain
As serious diseases brought under control,
scope increased to
address
production diseases of livestock, leading to more
efficient production and/or better quality animal
products
control livestock diseases at farm level.
Emphasis on prevention and control of major
epizootic diseases of livestock and zoonotic
diseases.

listed the function of DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY SERVICES
– To control, prevent and eradicate animal and zoonotic diseases.
– To promote the growth and development of livestock, livestock
products and animal feed production.
 Inspection of meat, milk, eggs, animal feed, abattoirs and
animal based processing plants.
 To control importation/exportation of animals, animal produce
and quarantine.
– To provide training for livestock and pets industries.
– To promote the growth and development of livestock production,
animal health and veterinary public health.
– To promote research on animal diseases and animal genetic
resources.
– To ensure the welfare of all animals and conservation of animal
genetic substances.
IMPLEMENTATION OF INSPECTION SERVICES AT FOREIGN
ABATTOIRS AND PROCESSING PLANTS FOR EXPORT OF MEAT
AND PRODUCTS OF ANIMAL ORIGIN TO MALAYSIA
• Import of meat and products of animal origin are
subject to the import protocol under the Animal Act
1953 (Revised 2006) and stipulates the import
conditions including inspection and approving of
export establishments for compliance to veterinary
and Halal requirements. The import protocols are
available in DVS website
http://www.dvs.gov.my/importsregulations).
