Observations and Recommendations
Observations:
•
•
GeoVIS facilitates in mapping of the land cover classes using visual/semiautomated interpretation.
LCCS has the capability to assess the accuracy of visually interpreted maps
through MAP (Map Accuracy Programme).
Suggestions:
Erosion status may be modified as suggested below:
• Wind erosion:
a) Loss of top soil
b) Terrain deformation
c) Over-blowing
• Gully erosion:
a) Very small gully
b) Small gullies
c) Medium gully
d) Deep and narrow gullies

Inclusion of built-up (rural) is felt necessary. Clear definition with supporting reference is
needed.
Inclusion of salt-affected soils- saline, sodic and saline-sodic needs to be included under
environmental attributes.
Provision for natural regrowth after shifting cultivation to be included.
Plantation along the linear features (canal, railway line, road etc) are to be addressed
under LCCS.
In landform environmental attribute “dunes” and “mudflats” to be included.
All major agricultural crops of India, not included in existing LCCS to be included.
Trees along the agricultural field boundaries in agro-forestry systems to be considered.
Hierarchical change for density of built-up area (one level up) to be included. School to be
mentioned as Educational Institution.
Recommendation for GeoVIS:
1. Projection information for output shape file required.
2. Direct handling capability for reading 16-bit data needed.
3. Buttons or icons should to be attractive and smaller.
4. Provision for editing LCCS legend class and saving it into same file is needed.
5. Provision for accessing and editing LCCS legend while doing interpretation is required.
Thank you
