One spring day, when nature dressed into her emerald
clothes, I was walking in the forest next to my
grandparents’ village. I liked so much feeling its fresh
green breath!
Its voice, like my mother’s, was whispering lullabies
and I was trying hard not to fall asleep. Tree branches
were wide open and I felt their embrace. I was spoiled by
floral scent.
Overwhelmed by this spell, I sat slowly next to the tree
and passionately spoke: “My dear tree! I kept wondering. I
suddenly realized it was late and my grandparents may be
worried. How time flew! The forest is magic!

When I go back memory lane, I always find a forest on
it. It changes the face and the part because it depends on a
story.
It was different when the scary wolf met and ate the Red
Scarf, like the one where Hansel and Gretel hid in or the one
helping Snow White.
Therefore it became proof that there is good and it always
wins and lasts. Today I wish I had a child’s soul, lingering on
the harmony and mystery that only a forest has.

One night I had an unforgettable dream. The Forest-Fairy herself carried
my like the wind in her kingdom… It was a forest I had never seen before.
- Look! Here is my family! The small trees under the big ones are younger.
They got plenty of water and … there is the miracle.
- They are so frail!
- They seem so. But they are strong, as they succeeded against wind, storm,
frost and heat … We are happy to have the chance of being together. We rely on
each other and take care of the planet and its people. We provide oxygen,
warmth, we build and adorn houses.
- And we never pay you back enough…On the contrary, we destroy you by
scratching your trunks and sacrificing you…
- It’s true people plant trees… but lately they don’t have time for us
anymore… we decided not to lose them and still protect them, as long as we can…
I burst into tears.
When I woke up, I knew I would share my dream to everyone around. And I
knew I could count on them, to prove that we also love forests…

It was quite a cold autumn. A cold winter was waiting for its
turn. The village people hired woodchoppers to get them fire wood.
When they were about to start cutting, one of them one tree told them:
- You may not be merciful, but don’t you know that you can’t live
without us?
- Why? What’s preventing us to? asked the woodchoppers.
- Lack of oxygen, our gift.
- But the villagers need wood! said one of them.
Then a woodpecker came and advised them to look for dry wood
and cut it, letting the young trees provide the necessary oxygen in
nature. They shouldn’t forget to plant trees to replace the one which
did their duty!
This is how people and trees agreed to provide each other
protection.

It was a beautiful day in the summer holiday and I was finally glad
that we were all together, all cousins, camping in the mountains. We
were playing hide and seek. I hid so well that I couldn’t find myself in
the deep forest. At the beginning I was a little scared, but later I heard
the sound of a water spring, so I calmed down and heard a voice
telling me:
- Don’t be afraid! You’re with me! I’m Mother Nature and I’m going to
take care of you as if you were my child.
I sat under a tree and fell asleep because I was tired. I woke up when I
heard another slightly worried voice:
- I found you! I’m going to take care of you!
- I already know that, Mother Nature!
- What Mother Nature are you talking about? I’m your natural mother!
I got scared when you lost and I’m going to ground you!
This showed me that nature is a second mother, loving and
sometimes… grounding us!

My favorite story told by my mother is the one where she was about
7 and got into the forest without her parents’ approval. She was
fascinated by the smell, the fresh air and bird twitter. She wandered for
hours until she got hungry and thirsty. She found a spring with cool
clear water and blackberry and raspberry shrubs. Mom went along the
river and made a big bunch of scented colorful flowers. She sang and she
was happy without feeling tired at all. My mother didn’t realize that she
had been missing for quite some time. She knew that the river will lead
her to the village.
Much has she wondered when she saw the village people being
worried about her. Among them, her grandparents were even more
worried. Then she gave them the bunch of flowers. The rest was silence!
But my mother gladly remembered how the forest quenched her thirst
and provided her with food and offered her an unforgettable day. It
showed her love!

I still remember the old oak from the town centre.
People were standing in its shade and birds were
nesting in its leaves and chirping with delight.
One day I sat on a bench, took a long look at it and
imagined its story.
In the beginning there was an acorn come to life
which, year after year, became a young tree facing
many adversities: winter’s terrible cold, summer’s
suffocating heat, storms, blizzards and rains. It was
high, strong and imposing, but also sensitive when
hurt, when its delicate branches were tore apart.
Its story reminded me so much about my
grandfather…

From my room window the winter appeared so unfriendly.
The tree, standing as a guardian in front of my house for as long
as I remember, had become witness of a natural adversity.
For a few days the wind had been blowing strong like a ship on
an agitated sea. There were no more leaves which used to keep
shade in the season when the strong sun kept piercing the house
walls. The only reminder of its greatness and beauty were the
great trunk and thick roots which kept getting out of the ground.
I got anxious since my mother had told me that the Town Hall
decided to cut it down because it was too old. One day I held it in
my arms getting overwhelmed with sadness. I boldly stepped into
the Town Management Office.
I can’t remember my arguments but I succeeded! Nobody is going
to cut down my tree. When I came back I held it once again in my
arms and I was overwhelmed with joy!

One spring day, I was sitting in front of my apartment, thinking how
nature gets back to life. One old gloomy lady looked persistently at
me and whispered:
- If you go to the magic park, you’ll discover the mystery of the trees!
As there is only a park in town, I stayed no more. When I arrived
there I sat under a tree, started watching carefully and let my mind
wonder. It felt like a fairy-tale atmosphere. Blades of grass glittered
like diamonds, flowers smiled in sunlight, but the most impressive
thing was the rustling of leaves, which seemed to have endless
conversations.
I felt like hearing them confess their relief when winter left, as it
was difficult for them to bear the cold and the snow. I suddenly felt
their joy to get green, to wait the first buds. I left home happy and
came back any time I wanted to live that magic...

One winter day, when snowflakes met to cover everything in a
shiny white mantle, I set off in a hurry to the hill already
turned into a nice slope.
I happily climbed and went down on it losing time count until I
realized that I was alone at sunset.
On my way home I had to cross a forest. I could see the shadows
of the trees which gave my skin goose bumps. I could hear the
echoes of my heartbeat. As soon as I got close to the first tree, it
magically disappeared.
The wind gusts moved the trees and let the moon light my way.
The atmosphere was fairy-like; it was like heaven to me.
Then I understood that the forest is my friend and I’d always
come back there and enjoy its presence.
