 About the author Karen Rowan began teaching Spanish in 1995 at Liberty High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She attended her first TPRS Workshop with Blaine Ray that December. Since then she has taught high school and middle school classes at The Colorado Springs School; volunteered teaching elementary school English in Playa Panama, Costa Rica for a year; taught high school Spanish at Palmer High School and taught adults through a company she originally founded with Blaine Ray, Fluency Fast Language Classes, Inc. She writes curriculum and readers for true beginning languages students. Las aventuras de Isabela, Isabela captura un congo and Carl no quiere ir a México are the first three books in the four book “Isabela series.” The fourth book, El secuestro de José, will be published in 2014. Isabela is also available in French. The readers, audio books and teacher’s guides are available at www.fluencyfast.com. She also wrote the TPRS ancillaries for Paso a paso and Realidades, which can be purchased directly through Prentice Hall. It is a free on-­‐line journal dedicated to communicating research, articles and helpful information regarding language acquisition to support teachers as they endeavor to create fluent, multilingual students. It is a blind peer-­‐reviewed journal. Karen edits the Teacher-­‐to-­‐Teacher section, which publishes good teaching ideas among teachers. To read the journal, go to www.ijflt.org. She lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but teaches Spanish classes through Fluency Fast in Denver and goes salsa and bachata dancing in Denver so often, she now considers herself a near-­‐Denverite. She frequently travels to Costa Rica to finish writing projects and to volunteer with the local elementary schools where she delivers suitcases full of children’s books and reads to the students.
