Valentine’s Candy Grams are

February's birth flower is the violet, which
signifies watchfulness, loyalty, and faithfulness.
Give a violet to someone to let them know you'll
always be there for them. The other February
flower is the primrose, which lets someone know
you can't live without them.
February Birthstone - Amethyst
Some of the properties with which the Amethyst
is associated - stability, peace, balance, courage,
inner strength, sincerity and a calm disposition.
The healing properties of the Amethyst are reputed to be effective for health problems relating
to the withdrawal symptoms of any sort of addiction, headaches, insomnia, arthritis, pain relief,
circulatory system issues and general healing. The
Amethyst is also referred to as the "sobriety
stone" as it was once believed to prevent drunkenness and used to treat alcoholism and other types
of addictions.

your chocolate indulgence
from below.
$1.00 box of Chocolate
(sugar free in bag)
$ .50 Fudgsicle
(Sugar Free & Regular)
Due to the un wanted side affects that a
lot of sugar free sweeteners can have in
most people, we are highly recommending a single Sugar Free Fudgsicle in
place of a box or bag of candies for our
Memory Care & anyone else.

Resident Of The Month…
It is with great pleasure that we
choose to award Karen Newberry as
our Spotlight Resident for the month
of February. She is described by others as a caring, generous, and positive person with a great outlook on
life. There are many people who admire her strength and courage as she
takes everyday head-on with determination. Here is her story:
Imagine beautiful summer days
in Ohio with over 160 acres of farmland; enjoying every day outdoors
with a sense of pride and purpose.
That’s how Karen describes her childhood growing up on a dairy farm. She
was adopted by her father Edward
and mother Grace at seven years old. She spent her days milking cows and
riding her horse Flicka any chance she got. She has always had a soft spot for
animals and loves to take care of them. There was always something to do
growing up on a farm, so she never got bored. She loved spending time with her
brother David and became really close with him as the years past.
Once Karen graduated from the local high school she attended a business
college for about a year. During this time she and David had been talking about
joining the Army together. Finally Karen agreed to it and they were sent to boot
camp together. Karen was stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia as a secretary for Sergeant Major Fisk. Those three years in the Army helped Karen mature and gain
beneficial knowledge and experience. When her term ended, David invited her to
visit him out in California. She enjoyed her visit so much that she decided to remain here in San Diego and took a job in the Public Works building in National
City as a secretary. There she met a man named Donald Newberry and their
friendship blossomed into a romance. They were married in Las Vegas soon after
and had a son together named Edward David.

Resident Of The Month continued...
A new adventure unfolded for Karen when she experienced motherhood. “It is just so amazing to watch your child develop and grow” she said while
sharing her memories of her son growing from an infant to a toddler. Naturally he
took to riding horses just like his mom and became remarkable at it. They owned
a small ranch where she raised horses. As a family they would go on trail rides
and visit the local beaches together. Karen’s favorite horse was named Days
Morning Star which she called Lucy for short. Some other hobbies Karen enjoys
besides horseback riding are sewing, crocheting and listening to Neil Diamond
and John Denver. Since she has joined Sungarden Terrace with her cat Little
Boy, she loves to go on the outings, lunch groups, listening to the entertainment
and visiting with her friends. She truly loves all the kind people here and her
friendships that she has built. Thank you so much Karen for sharing your story!
