FROM THE STAFF
TO REGISTER FOR PROGRAMS & TRIPS
Dear Friends,
It is with bitter sweetness that I announce my retirement
from the PJCC at the end of 2015. It’s hard to believe
that I have worked here for 16 ½ years. I have had a
36 year-long career as a professional social worker,
including medical social work and work with people
with disabilities and I am now looking forward to having
a little more time to share with my husband. Together,
we love hiking, being outdoors, and hope to do a little
traveling while our knees and hips permit! I will miss the
camaraderie of my wonderful colleagues and value the
relationships that I formed with the members of the PJCC
and especially with the members of the Beth El Senior
Friendship Club. I hope to now have the time to attend
the great programs that the PJCC offers! Here’s to the
next phase of my journey. I hope to see you around the
PJCC.
Sincerely,
Rhonda Press, LCSW

February 8 • Code: 44984 • Free for Everyone
PJCC 2016 Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Wayne Dosick,
Ph.D., asks “Who are we?” Jews in America have joined
the great “melting pot” and have happily pursued the
“American dream.” We’ve reached the highest levels
of American society. We comfortably walk the halls
of academia, finance, and government. So: Are we
American Jews? Jewish Americans? Are we at home,
or still wandering in exile? Engage in an exploration
of the contemporary dynamic tension between exile
and return; chosen-ness and choosing; tradition and
renewal. Advance registration required.

Ralph Beren, Ed.D. believes that humor is the hidden
elixir of life. According to some experts, laughter in a
group is more contagious than catching a cold in the
same setting. Ralph says there is nothing like Jewish

with self- deprecation, wit, and manipulation, pokes
fun at everything Jews hold to be sacred. Dr. Beren’s
program displays his talent for stand-up and
entertains his audiences with videos of classic Jewish
comedians such as Jack Benny, Woody Allen, Gilda
Radner, and Jerry Seinfeld.

An unforgettable evening of soaring lyricism and
original compositions. The multi-instrumentalist and
co-founder of the group Oregon is accompanied
by Bay Area jazz trio Charged Particles — known for
playing original, elaborate, high-energy compositions,
featuring heavy doses of Afro-Latin grooves and funk.
An afternoon at Sam Mazza Castle, the Jewel of
the San Mateo coast, in Pacifica.
Guests are greeted with wine and cheese, and the 60-minute
concert is followed by a Meet-the-Artists dessert reception. It is
our pleasure to reserve tables for parties of four or more. Doors
open at 7:30.
Carmel Bach Festival
Take a trip back in time with a guided historical
tour and soak in the beautiful views.
