The 16-year-old Virginia native made his debut in summer 2005 with the Scott

the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard Pop 100, and Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles &

UMPG SIGNS PLATINUM ROCK
GROUP, HOOBASTANK
UMPG, in a highly competitive situation, have signed Platinum rock group, Hoobastank, to
an exclusive, worldwide publishing deal. The band’s new album Every Man For Himself
(Island), features the single “Inside of You.” Hoobastank's eponymous debut dropped in
November 2001. The LP went Platinum, featuring the hit singles “Crawling the Dark” and
“Running Away.” The album hit No. 1 in Billboard’s Heatseekers. The band’s second offering,
The Reason (Island), released in 2004, hit No. 3 in the Billboard 200. The band was featured
on the Fast and the Furious OST and the 2002 Scorpion King OST. The band’s prior work,
including Every Man For Himself (Island), is published through Warner Chappel. Universal
Music Publishing Group will publish all future works. Hoobastank are managed by Bret Bair.
Chamillionaire
PLATINUM ALBUM & NO.1 RINGTONE
UMPG new signing Chamillionaire is celebrating a Platinum album and a No. 1
ringtone. Following his major-label debut, The Sound Of Revenge released on
Universal Records in February, Chamillionaire is poised to take his place among
Houston's current hip-hop elite, including the new generation of rhyme-spitters
such as Lil' Flip, Slim Thug, Mike Jones and Paul Wall, as well as respected
vets UGK and Scarface.
Pictured L-R: Tom Sturges, EVP Creative Affairs,
UMPG; Chamillionaire; David Renzer, Chairman &
CEO, UMPG; Ethiopia Habtemariam, VP Urban Music,
UMPG; Robert Allen, VP Business Affairs, UMPG
Chamillionaire's emergence as the hottest new hip-hop artist to explode nationwide is further confirmed by a burst of accolades and activity surrounding the
release. Rolling Stone raved about the debut disc - "the next superstar in Houston" "hip hop takeover," and USA
Today proclaimed: "Chamillionaire proves he's ready for the big time with The Sound Of Revenge.”
Chamillionaire recruited an impressive list of talent on his debut effort, including Lil' Flip, Bun B, Scarface, and
Krayzie Bone, as well as in-demand producers Scott Storch (50 Cent), Mannie Fresh (Lil' Wayne, Baby,
Juvenile) and Cool & Dre (The Game). But, it's his work with Atlanta studio kings The Beat Bullies (Big
Boi/OutKast) that sets the tone for much of The Sound Of Revenge's diverse platform. The single “Southern
Takeover” was recently featured on NBC’s The Office, while the single “Ridin” feat. Krayzie Bone hit No.1 on the
Billboard Hot 100, Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 R&B/Hip-Hop Singles, and Top 10 on Hot Rap Tracks.
WHAT HIP-HOP’S BEEN MISSING:
UMPG SIGNS JUELZ SANTANA
Over the past few years, the hip-hop game has watched Juelz Santana
become one of its brightest stars, its biggest personalities, and its finest
MCs. Whether solo or with his Diplomats brethren - Cam'ron, Jim Jones,
JR Writer, etc - Juelz has begun to let us in on a little secret: the hip-hop
game's been missing something vital, and he's got it.
Pictured L-R: Maani Edwards, Sr. Director of Urban
Music - West Coast, UMPG; Juelz Santana
With his exclusive worldwide publishing deal with UMPG and second Def
Jam effort, What The Game's Been Missing, the hip-hop nation is headed back to Santana's town, to rediscover Harlemworld's distinct style as only Juelz can bring it.
With the first two singles off What The Game's Been Missing, Santana has landed a 1-2 combo that still
has hip-hop heads spinning. The royal horns of "Mic Check 1, 2" and the absolutely addictive whistles of
"There It Go" show off an even more focused Juelz Santana, tossing off ad-libs that other MC's would sign
over their lives for ("Don't watch me. Watch T.V.")
So, what has the game been missing? "Leadership," says Santana, "Everybody is following everyone else,
nobody is willing to be their own man, to be creative. It goes against what hip-hop is all about. The Dipset
Movement is about forging our own path."

SIGNINGS
DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL TO
RELEASE FOURTH ALBUM
The band’s new disc, entitled Dusk and Summer, hits U.S. stores on June 27.
Frontman Chris Carrabba worked primarily with producer Don Gilmore
(Linkin Park, Good Charlotte). The duo started working on the album when
they teamed up for the song “Vindicated” off 2004’s Spiderman 2 OST, which
reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks.
The new energetic opener/first single "Don't Wait" and "Temporary Love,” are
strongly influenced by Gilmore’s modern-rock-oriented approach.
Dashboard Confessional’s Carrabba also joined forces with Counting Crows
vocalist Adam Duritz on the track “So Long” and features tunes Carrabba
wrote in dressing rooms and on the bus while on the road last fall with U2.
Thanks to producer Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan), Carrabba’s previously
unreleased demos appear on the new effort as well. The earlier recordings
caught the producer’s eye and inspired him to come out of retirement to collaborate with the singer/songwriter.
The alternative rocker’s new release is the follow-up to 2003's A Mark, A
Mission, A Scar, which has sold 840,000 copies in the United States, was No.
1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums and No. 2 on Billboard 200 charts.
Dashboard Confessional’s U.S. tour kicks off July 10 with Say Anything and
Ben Lee opening on all dates.
Jackie Greene Is The Real Deal
Greene is the biggest thing to come out of Sacramento this century, a singersongwriter with a trio of lauded indie CDs under his belt, and now his fourth
album and major-label debut with American Myth. His signing with Verve
last year was the area's biggest local success story since Cake and
the Deftones broke over a decade ago.
Verve offered Greene the chance to shine before a larger audience, and he doesn't waste the opportunity. American Myth, produced by fellow roots-rock aficionado Steve Berlin of Los
Lobos, lofts one for the ages in terms of relevance, weight and
pure entertainment value.
Untouched by contemporary trends, the 25-year-old folk-rocker has made a timeless album with one beautifully realized
song after another. With a rhythm section he borrowed from
Elvis Costello, Greene sings like an old soul, with a sound that
moves from Eagles-style country rock to crunching bluesy rock
that might recall the Yardbirds. Wisps of Dylan and the Byrds
float across the tracks. But Greene is his own man.
On American Myth, Greene melds blues, country, folk, gospel and
rock influences, crafting an expressive new voice out of the tools
passed down from past masters. Our advice? Don't miss it.
Greene also recently contributed a song on the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack, titled “I Will Never Let You Go,” written by UMPG’s Gustavo Sandolalla.
And we wonder why we just can’t quit Jackie Greene…

Can you say “virulent political and cultural
rhetoric” 3x fast? Nevermind, it’s

for honesty and empowerment. Whether
on the piano-driven opener “Copper Red,”
or the Aimee Mann-assisted “Get Down To
It,” Swan strips down to her soul.

BEST INTERNATIONAL BREAKTHROUGH ARTIST
The 2006 Brit Awards named UMPG’s Jack Johnson the Best International Breakthrough Artist. Riding the wave of
success, Johnson celebrated four multi-platinum albums simultaneously charting on the Top 75 UK Album Chart.
The surf-folk superstar scores his first Billboard No. 1 with 2006’s “Sing-A-Longs & Lullabies” from the Curious
George OST on the Billboard 200. When Universal Pictures turned to Johnson to craft songs that could provide a
voice for the central character, Curious George (who does not speak) it presented the new father with an opportunity to contribute songs that might bridge the gap between parents and children. The album proved to be an international sensation hitting No. 1 on the Top Canadian Albums and the European Top 100. Propelled by the success of
the single “Upside Down” the soundtrack album is the first to reach No. 1 in the U.S. since the Bad Boys 2 OST in
August of 2003.
Prior to the success of “Sing-A-Longs & Lullabies,” the former Quicksilver sponsored surfer’s In Between Dreams
sold more than 4.5 million units globally and went 3x Platinum in Canada, the UK, and Australia. Johnson’s 2001
debut Brushfire Fairytales, has sold more than 2.4 million copies around
the world and gone Platinum in the U.S. and Canada and Gold in Ireland,
the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
Johnson, his wife, and Kim and Emmett Malloy created their own
record label, Brushfire Records, in 2002, to put out the soundtracks for
surf films and future music releases. Founded at the Mango Tree in
Hawaii, Brushfire Records strives to make music and films that are
positive and works to connect like-minded musicians and artist in
the surf community and beyond.

The Multi-Platinum Wizards of Rock
GODSMACK
Produced by frontman Sully Erna, Godsmack has unleashed their newest record on the public with a No.
1 Hot Shot Debut on the Billboard 200. Succinctly entitled Godsmack IV, the album displays a new side to
the band along with the heavy, melodic that rock fans have come to anticipate. With the single "Speak"
stomping rock radio charts, GODSMACK is off to a good start in 2006.
Behind the boards, reknowned engineer Andy Johns is still kicking. Johns engineered for the cream of
the late 60s/early 70s British scene including Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Humble Pie and
Rod Stewart.
The new GODSMACK effort follows up the band's multi-platinum 2003 disc, Faceless, and 2004's acoustic
EP, The Other Side. The group has International tour plans for June, with a U.S. leg slated for September.
“This is Some of the Best Music I’ve Ever Made”
ANGELS AND AIRWAVES
Blink-182’s singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge launches his solo project, Angels
and Airwaves with former Box Car Racer’s David Kennedy, Offspring’s Atom
Willard on drums and ex-Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn. The band delivers a
sound completely different from that of Blink-182, demonstrating more emo
type song stylings. The debut album We Don't Need to Whisper, featuring the
single "The Adventure,” hit stores May 23. Angels and Airwaves are currently
on tour throughout the US and have sold out every venue along the way.
"It's taken me 12 years to learn how to write an album like this," says Tom
Delonge. "It's taken 20 million records sold and arenas sold out across the
world (with Blink-182). This is some of the best music I've ever made."
MUCH O’ BLIGE
MARY J. BLIGE
With six prior multi-platinum and platinum albums, Mary J. Blige returns to the R&B throne with her seventh
studio album The Breakthrough. With 15 weeks on top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the single “Be
Without You” is not only the biggest hit of Mary J. Blige’s career, it is the longest running No. 1 song on the
chart since 1949. The single is also Blige’s sixth recording to reach No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
The queen of soul and R&B has sold more than 20 million records in her career, scored countless No. 1 singles, and collaborated with music legends such as UMPG’s U2 and Elton John. Her latest collaboration with
U2 on the group’s 1992 smash hit “One” rocketed to No. 1 in America. Mary said of the experience: “I thought
I would be nervous about taking on such a big song by such a big group.”

UMPG Honored as No. 2 Publisher
Topping Warner/Chappel, BMG/Zomba, and Sony/ATV among others
As recently featured in Billboard*:
“Universal Music Publishing Group may have to get a bigger hat to find room for all
the feathers the company has been gathering during the past year.”
“In the face of a very challenging business environment, we performed very well,
beating our financial projections and expectations,” says David Renzer, UMPG
Chairman/CEO.
UMPG continues to expand the artist/songwriter roster and catalog, also has
launched a new division, Universal Music Production Library.
Some of the top songwriter/artists in the business helped propel UMPG to the No. 2
spot for last year. They include Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, and U2, who garnered the best
song GRAMMY award for “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own.” Newer acts with
members signed to UMPG have also tallied millions in record sales, including the Killers,
the Darkness, Ciara and Franz Ferdinand. UMPG also signed 16-year-old Jive Records artist/songwriter Chris
Brown. UMPG also landed separate global deals in the UK with Elton John and Bernie Taupin last year. Prince
renewed and extended his deal for his catalog and released 3121 which debuted at No. 1.
“We take a very holistic view of an artist and catalog when we sign them,” Renzer says. “We do things from a
marketing perspective that I think are unique.”

UMPG’S LYNYRD SKYNYRD AND
(NEVER MIND) THE SEX PISTOLS
INDUCTED INTO ROCK AND ROLL
HALL OF FAME
Southern rock mainstays Lynyrd Skynyrd were
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class
of 2006. UMPG’s new signing, The Sex Pistols, successfully and (somewhat fitting) made brisk business of avoiding induction.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of the most commercially
successful and critically acclaimed southern rock groups of the 1970's.
Their distinctive triple-lead guitar sound made their songs "Freebird," and "Sweet Home Alabama" American anthems and
staples of FM radio.
The Sex Pistols released a single album - Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols - that ranks as one of the most
important rock records ever released. The album changed the course of rock and roll, kicking the punk movement in its antiestablishment sweet spot. Having declined to participate in the induction via a handwritten letter posted on their web site, the
Sex Pistols' were presented in absentia with their statues, which will reside at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in
Cleveland - in need of a swift dusting, perhaps - until claimed.
SONGWRITER SPOTLIGHT: STEPHEN BISHOP
How to Listen to...Doris Fisher
GRAMMY and Oscar nominated songwriter, Stephen Bishop, got his first break when
Art Garfunkel heard his songs and recorded two of them on his Gold LP, Breakaway.
Shortly thereafter, Bishop was signed to ABC Records who released his first album,
Careless. Bishop’s two hits from that album were, “Save It For a Rainy Day,” and “On
and On.” Soon the album went Gold, as well as his next album, Bish.
“Whispering Grass” - The Ink Spots
“That Ole Devil Called Love” - Billie Holiday
“You Always Hurt the One You Love” - The Mills Brothers
“Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall” - Ella Fitzgerald & The Ink Spots
“Tampico” - Stan Kenton with June Christy
“Angelina, the Waitress at the Pizzeria” - Louis Prima

Eric Clapton, Barbra Streisand, Art Garfunkel, Steve Perry, Stephanie Mills, Kenny
Loggins, Johnny Mathis, Phoebe Snow, David Crosby, The Four Tops, and

FILM PROJECTS: Bishop sang the hit theme, “It Might Be You,” from the movie,
Tootsie, as well as writing and/or singing for thirteen other films including, Animal
House, and “Separate Lives” from White Nights.
LITTLE KNOWN FACT: Bishop appeared as the "Charming Guitar Player" in Animal
House, wherein John Belushi slammed his guitar to
smithereens in the toga party scene. Bishop also appeared
in "The Blues Brothers," as a State Trooper, where he
uttered his self penned line, "They broke my watch!"
UP NEXT: His newest album is an acoustic guitar
and vocal solo album entitled, Yardwork. He
recently sang on Neil Young's new album. MCA
also recently released a hit compilation in the
Millenium series that is currently out in stores.

Have you listened to a commercial lately? Commercials today offer a
more eclectic and interesting soundtrack than you will hear on most
radio stations, and UMPG songs figure prominently in this mix.
From classic rock stalwarts Steppenwolf and Lynyrd Skynyrd, to hip-hop superstars
Ludacris and 50 Cent, and indie rock faves Franz Ferdinand and The Faders, UMPG songs
and artists have been important parts of many advertising campaigns recently.
The blending of music with commercials has become a means to help brands more effectively reach their target audience. At the same time, it’s become an amazing outlet to help
artists expose their music to a larger audience than radio can provide. New fans for both
the brand and the music are born every time a campaign successfully combines the mediums.

UMPG NASHVILLE ON
FIRE
UMPG Launches
Christian Music
Publishing Arm
In the past few months UMPG Nashville celebrated three number one songs and held six songs in the top ten for the entire
month of March. Rivers Rutherford scored two number one songs with “When I Get Where I’m Going” recorded by Brad
Paisley featuring Dolly Parton and “Living In Fast Forward” recorded by Kenny Chesney. Steve Robson’s song “What Hurts
The Most,” recorded by Rascal Flatts, also topped the charts. Other songs in the top ten include Monty Powell’s “Tonight I
Wanna Cry” recorded by Keith Urban; Jon Bon Jovi’s “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” recorded by Bon Jovi featuring Jennifer
Nettles; and Rivers Rutherford’s “She Don’t Tell Me To” recorded by Montgomery Gentry. UMPG Nashville has five other singles rapidly approaching the top ten as well.
Not only is Rivers Rutherford celebrating his number one hits, but he is also busy in the
studio and on the road. Rivers recently headlined shows in New York and Los Angeles, and
opened shows for country stars Pat Green and Keith Urban. He is currently working on his
own singer/songwriter album, to be released in the fall, as well as producing albums on
Sony recording artists Montgomery Gentry and Cole Deggs. Last year, Rivers wrote and
produced Montgomery Gentry’s first number one single “If You Ever Stop Loving Me.”
Recently, the Academy of Country Music nominated Rivers’ song “When I Get Where I’m
Going” for Song of Year. The song was also nominated for Country Recorded Song of the
Year at this year’s Gospel Music Awards.
NEW RELEASES
Shooter Jennings is busy promoting his sophomore Universal South release Electric Rodeo. Following his
performance at the Bonnaroo Festival, Shooter is touring on a bill with Lynyrd Skynyrd, 3 Doors Down,
and Double Trouble. Shooter has his own radio show on Sirius Sattelite on the Outlaw Country station
called Shooter Jennings’ Electric Rodeo (#63: Saturdays 6-8pm ET). His debut album Put The O Back In
Country sold over 200,000 copies and produced two hit singles.
Radney Foster’s release This World We Live In is his first studio album in four years. Recently, Foster celebrated a number one song when Sara Evans took “Real Fine Place To Start” to the top of the country charts.
She first heard the song on Radney’s 2002 release Another Way To Go.
NEW SIGNINGS: GINNY OWENS AND JASON MATTHEWS
UMPG Nashville welcomes Christian recording artist Ginny Owens and hit-maker Jason Matthews. Ginny
Owens recently released her sixth album from Rocketown Records entitled Long Way Home. Since her first
release in 1999, Ginny has taken home eight Dove Awards and celebrated numerous chart topping singles.
Jason Matthews is noted as one of Nashville’s best new storytellers. Matthews was born in Harrells Store,
North Carolina and since moving to town, his songs have been recorded by Trace Adkins, Travis Tritt and
Julie Roberts to name a few. Jason recently celebrated his first number one song, when Billy Currington
took his song “Must Be Doin’ Something Right” to the top of the country charts.

LUKE MCMASTER
Formerly one half of ViK/BMG’s McMaster and James, Luke McMaster has had an incredible
18 months. After two years of touring a gold record and a newly recorded record ready to go,
Luke felt it was time for a change in his professional career and began focusing on songwriting.
His first foray into the writing world saw him pen three singles off the debut album for Canadian
Idol/BMG recording artist Ryan Malcolm’s platinum record, 219 Days. He went on to write with
well known Canadian writers Marc Jordan and Christopher Ward. Their collaboration, and others, eventually saw him pen half the songs on Canada’s “Instant Star” soundtrack. The show is
aired around the world on over 140 TV stations, drawing over 400,000 viewers weekly.
Luke has quickly become one of Canada’s most sought after writers. He is currently working
with Rob Wells (peermusic), Lindy Robbins (UMPG) and Shelley Piekin (peermusic). McMaster’s
song, “Final Goodbye,” a co-write with with Charlene Gilliam, has become a cut on the sophomore Universal/Def Jam by Rihanna. A recent collaboration with Xandy Barry and Wally Gagel
saw them pen the song “On Your Own” for popster Nick Lachey.
With all of this going on, Luke, along with above mentioned Rob Wells and friend
Simon Wilcox (EMI publishing), have found time to write and record “Song For Africa.”
The song and its proceeds are being dedicated to the AIDS pandemic in Africa. The song has
become the official song of the International AIDS conference to be held in Toronto this summer.
SAM ROBERTS
Sam Roberts’ highly anticipated sophomore album, Chemical City, was released through Universal Music
Canada Inc. on April 11th and released through Secret Brain/Fontana Records on May 16th in the U.S. His debut
album, We Were Born in a Flame, was a double platinum success. Sam has been consistently busy touring both
Canada and the U.S, including an appearance at the SXSW Music Festival. He played the Sasquatch Music
Festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Columbia River, WA.
The first single “The Gate” debuted at No. 23 on the Rock Radio chart and took only five weeks to reach No. 1.
Recently signed to UMPG Canada, Khari Dandy seems to be making all the right moves.
After having signed to Elektra records with the group Hotsauce, Khari struck out on his own as a writer. Early co-writes saw him get
cuts with Swizz Beatz, Nappy Roots, Bobby Creekwater, and a double platinum record with 2005 Canadian Idol winner Kalan Porter.
He soon hooked up with songwriting partner Dan “August” Rigo. The duo collaborated with recording artist Yummy, producer Al West,
and renowned producer/writer Bink. Khari and August have signed a two year exclusive production deal with Bink’s company, One Shot
Deal, and will be represented by Francesca Spero and Delante Murphy. Recent cuts include: Costars/Motown’s debut release LaMarvin,
a new single with Nappy Roots, a track with Jean Grae, the single on Soul Clap/Universal “Janelle” debut album, a single with Jhevon
Paris, an upcoming release on Universal Canada’s Cory Lee debut LP and the entire album for Australia Idol’s Josh Williams. Both Khari
and August wrote and produced the debut album for Australia’s Rajan Music.

ELTON
AND BERNIE
The Entire Works of Legendary Artist/Composer Elton John and Premiere
Lyricist, Songwriting Partner Bernie Taupin Now Under UMPG’s Roof
UMPG has signed two new long-term exclusive, worldwide agreements to administer the post1974 publishing interests of world-renowned, multiple Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/composer, Elton John, and renowned songwriting collaborator, Bernie Taupin. Each songwriter controls
his own interest in the songs they've written, and separate arrangements were entered into with each.
As UMPG already owns the copyrights in Elton’s and Bernie’s songs written up to 1974, these new
agreements will put the entire Elton John catalog under one roof, making this a landmark, history-making
publishing agreement. The pact was announced by David Renzer, Chairman/CEO, Universal Music
Publishing Group and Paul Connolly, President of Europe/M.D. UK, Universal Music Publishing Group.
Both deals were previously administered by Warner Chappell.
Elton John's recordings, from the inception of his career, are released through
Universal Music Group globally.
David Renzer said, “By concluding these new publishing deals with both
Elton John and Bernie Taupin, UMPG is now in the enviable position of
being the new world-wide administrator for two of our industry’s most
accomplished songwriters. Elton John’s and Bernie Taupin’s music
embodies a true treasure trove that UMPG is proud to represent and we
look forward to aggressively promoting their catalogs.”
Paul Connolly said, “Elton John and Bernie Taupin encompass one
of the most prolific and influential songwriting teams ever – they
are true legends. This deal represents a considerable coup for us
and has added a remarkable catalog to our roster. I’m thrilled
and excited at the prospect of working with such a rich catalog of classic tunes and future songs.”
“Elton John and Bernie Taupin are among the most important songwriters of all time,” stated Zach Horowitz,
President and Chief Operating Officer of Universal Music
Group. “It is a special privilege for UMG to now represent
their entire songwriting catalog as well as all of Elton John's
recording catalog on a global basis. We couldn't be more
thrilled that Elton and Bernie call Universal their home.”

celebrating their shared success.
Last year UMPG signed a co-publishing deal with Hiphop label Top Notch, which immediately resulted
in huge sales - and a No.1 airplay hit with “Watskeburt?!” by De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig, a wicked
dance/hiphop track with a mix of Dutch and fantasy lyrics. Recently, EMI/Virgin (Nebula) UK and
Superstar Germany signed the track for their respective territories. This led to interest from other countries. Remarkable: UK and Germany will release the track in the original Dutch lyrics version! UK dance
guru Pete Tong has already spun the track several times on national Radio One!

+ GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA + NEW SIGNINGS + REGGAETON + MYLO + MEXICO + BRAZIL
OSCAR WINNER - GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA
Critically acclaimed producer and songwriter Gustavo Santaolalla continues riding the wave of success. His work on
Brokeback Mountain recently won him an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. He was also given the Gardel Person
of the Year Award by CAPIF, in his native Argentina. In addition to scoring Brokeback and co-writing the songs on its
soundtrack, Gustavo has also done work for many films including Motorcycle Diaries, Amores Perros and Collateral
as well as working with and developing many artists. Among these are Grammy winning Molotov, Café Tacuba,
Bajofondo, Javier Garcia, and Juanes to name but a few.
WHO’S NEW IN UMPG’S LATIN ROSTER
Following their signing with UMPG and Machete, mega
Reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel have had continued success
with sold out-shows, multiple charting songs and much critical acclaim. Jay-D and Los Nandez also recently inked deals
with UMPG via the Guitian joint venture. Jay-D’s debut single
is already in the top 20 of the Tropical charts.
Reggaeton Pa’l Mundo
(Reggaeton for the World)
Reggaeton continues with its ever growing presence that has spilled over into all facets of the industry. Wisin & Yandel have kept their momentum with 5 singles simultaneously charting on
Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks and outstanding sales for their Pa’l Mundo album. In the meantime, Hector “the Father” is working alongside Jay-Z as they put the finishing touches on
their much awaited Rompediscoteka set to be released in June. Hector has maintained a
strong presence in the charts with four of his songs topping Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks in
the past few months, two of which are currently charting, and a new single hitting radio. Both
Baby Rasta and Gringo are busy working on their own solo albums due out later this year.
MYLO VS. THE MIAMI SOUND MACHINE
Taking a classic and reinventing it, Mylo did a mash-up of the Miami Sound Machine/Gloria Estefan hit “Dr.
Beat.” Under its new title, “Doctor Pressure,” it peaked at number three on the UK charts where it stuck around
for quite a while. The single sold well in the UK and was played all over Europe, proving yet again that publishing
keeps songs fresh and new.

EUREKA SEVEN
Eureka Seven is a successful Japanese mecha anime
by Bandai Entertainment
and Bones. In Japan, there
are three video games by
Bandai. There is also a
manga adaptation of both
the TV series and the video
game TR1 New Wave and
New Vision.
The original idea of Eureka
Seven was created by
Bandai, who brought up the
idea of an anime to Bones. Bones rejected it at first, but
eventually decided to use their idea because they had
already planned to create an anime using mecha designs
by Shoji Kawamori who is a well known Japanese anime
creator and designer.
The TV series will be aired on Cartoon Network for North
America every Saturday. Bandai Entertainment in the US
will release the soundtrack for the TV series as well as
DVD. Also, Bandai will release 2 video games "TR1 New
Wave" and "New Vision" of Playstation 2 for the US territory soon. UMPG administers 100% (for Myrica Music) of
most of the titles on the series for the world excluding Japan.

BREAKING LOCALLY, THINKING GLOBALLY
UMPG South Africa has had strong support for signings such as Judith Sephuma,
Zamajobe, KB, Deborah, Klipwerf, James Stewart, Bhudaza, and Jimmy Dludlu, all of
whom toured extensively throughout South Africa.
RECENT NEWS: Zamajobe is set to appear in the movie “Hot Stuff.” Aside from appearing, she will perform the end titles, which will receive a worldwide release. Zamajobe
has also been asked to guest on Lee Ritenour’s
next studio album. KB secured her own TV show,
which will be supported by her recent winning of
“Best R&B Artist – Metro Award” and being chosen as
the Revlon Face for Africa 2006. Bhudaza takes a
month off to record his new album, before embarking on a ten month tour of Africa. Finally, James
Stewart has returned from New York from a one
month collaboration trip.
The drama featured "Oh Pretty Woman"
as the end theme title. The song will
be a cover version by a popular
female artist in Japan, Kaera Kimura,
with the original English lyrics.

released the title as a single in

+ THE LIVING END + AARADHNA + PAUL KELLY + SYNCH
THE LIVING END HIT #1,
SELL OUT ‘STATE OF EMERGENCY’ TOUR,
EXTEND WORLD-WIDE PUBLISHING DEAL
With the release of their fourth studio album State of Emergency, Melbourne-based punk rock trio,
The Living End have once again reaffirmed exactly why they are considered one of the most explosive rock bands in Australia. Meanwhile the band’s rampaging crusades throughout Japan, New
Zealand and one of the most talked about performances of SXSW in the U.S., have issued a warning
to the world that The Living End are staking their claim on a global scale.
Universal Music Publishing Group - Australia is delighted to announce the extension of its long-term, exclusive publishing agreement with The Living
End beyond Australia, New Zealand and Japan to include the rest of the world. Speaking of the deal, The Living End’s manager Rae Harvey comments, “Having experienced such a great working relationship with both Bob Aird and Heath Johns so far, it makes complete sense to entrust
Universal Music Publishing Group to represent The Living End worldwide.”
State of Emergency beat a hotly contested field to rocket to the summit of the ARIA Albums chart in its first week of release and has surpassed platinum sales while the album’s first two singles “What’s On Your Radio” and “Wake Up” dominated the ARIA Singles chart.
So what better way to celebrate this success than staging the band’s largest ever national tour? With the State Of
Emergency tour, The Living End are headlining multiple sold-out dates in some of the country’s largest venues performing a two-hour set spanning the band’s decade-long history. The band will join the ‘Warped Tour’ throughout July
and August to support the number one album’s North American release on Adeline Records.
AARADHNA READIES NEW ALBUM I LOVE YOU
After supporting U.S. hip hop superstar Kanye West at his sold-out New Zealand show and featuring on Paulmac’s
new single “Love Declaration,” Dawn Raid’s first lady of soul, Aaradhna is set to release her highly anticipated new
album I Love You through Dawn Raid/Universal in NZ and Dawn Raid/Warner in Australia.
After experiencing number one success in NZ featuring on the Adeaze track “Getting Stronger” and also on Savage’s
radio dominating smash “They Don’t Know,” it was inevitable that Aaradhna’s first solo single, the infectiously smooth
“Downtime” would enjoy similar success, spending over a month in the top 10 of the NZ singles chart.

PAUL KELLY CLOSES THE COMMONWEALTH
GAMES AND LAUNCHES ‘STARDUST FIVE’
Arguably Australia’s most successful singer/songwriter, Paul Kelly performed two tracks, “Leaps and
Bounds” and “Rally Round the Drum” at the closing ceremony of the Melbourne Commonwealth Games to
a stadium of 80,000 people and an estimated global television audience of 1.5 billion people. After “Leaps
and Bounds” was adopted as one of the theme songs for this year’s games, Paul delivered one of the most
stirring performances of a star-studded ceremony, once again proving why he is considered amongst the
most revered figures in Australian music.
Meanwhile, the tireless Kelly has embarked on a side project with nephew Dan Kelly, good friends Pete
and Dan Luscombe and Bill McDonald known as Stardust Five. Free of the expectations associated with
a typical Paul Kelly release, Stardust Five are one of the most exciting, genre-spanning bands of 2006.
