Our profession changes ….
Recent developments in cabled, optical and wireless networks have fundamentally changed our profession
and offer new possibilities that are more economical, more accurate and easier to implement.
Only a short time ago, time distribution by GORGY TIMING consisted solely of displaying the time on a clock and
supplying time to computers on a serial port. This world is now completely obsolete, we have entered the age of time
synchronization on communication networks (Ethernet, Internet and wireless WIFI and WIMAX). This has had a
profound, irreversible impact: the nature of synchronization exchanges is wider and faster and distance is no longer
an obstacle.
GORGY TIMING, French manufacturer, has been the most fervent supporter of the standardization of time
transmission with a view to transparency and customer satisfaction.
The present catalogue has been compiled to show how our profession has progressed and help you chose the
application that best meets your requirements.

1 Sources of external synchronization...
For a greater accuracy, our quartz time bases can be synchronized by several external synchronization sources.
1.1
Transmission of satellite time reference
Synchronization by GPS satellites.
The GPS (Global positioning System) consists of 24 satellites that continuously broadcasts signals on the frequency 1.575 ghz provide the
location and timing, for military and civilian sectors.
A specific antenna receives these time messages in UTC (Universal Time Coordinated)
Good reception with a minimum of three satellites can achieve a better than one microsecond accuracy.
1.2
Transmission of the reference time by radio transmitters
The radio-synchronization is based on receiving time signals from transmitters :
• France Inter Radio France 162kHz sinus waves,
• DCF 77,5kHz (Germany),
• MSF 60 kHz (UK),
• WWVB 60kHz (USA),
• JJY 8000-15000 kHz (Japon).
The time signals are received in local time and include a complete message : hour, minute, second, date,
day of week, month, year, daylight saving time. The remote active antenna of our master clock systems,
allows them to automatically get time and date, and daylight saving time.

2 Modes of transmission of time...
The time servers must synchronize the clocks and the network of a company without being dependent on proprietary technology from a single
manufacturer.
• Impulse Transmission
This mode of electrical transmission of time is old (1897).GORGY TIMING recommend it only to synchronize a few clocks or upgrade existing installations.
• RS485 Transmission code
This network transmission code allows to carry the time on a phone pair with shielding screen. GORGY TIMING has now dropped it in favour of the Afnor NFS
87500/Irig B standard time code .
Ref. : GP_UK-V1.0

7/48
• AFNOR NFS 87500 - IRIG B Transmission code
This code standardized in time message and frequency allows customers to choose freely between several clocks suppliers to find the timing devices that suits the
best to their requirements .This amplitude modulated code can now transmit the time to more than 250 clocks up to 40 km on a simple telephone cable. This code
has the advantage of having no interference on surrounding lines and it is not subject to industrial and electrical interferences.
• IRIG DCLS transmission
This simplified code contains the Irig -B time message, but without modulation. The range is limited to a few hundred meters.
• SMPTE EBU code transmission
Standardized code for synchronization of video and audio signals in audio-visual applications

8/48
• PPS Transmission
Pulse Per Second, broadcasting of time signals at programmable intervals.
• NTP Transmission
The Network time protocol (RFC 1305) transmitted over TCP/IP, calculates and corrects the deviation of data propagation time on local or remote networks. (cabled
Ethernet or Wi-fi atmospheric networks).
• PTP Transmission
This Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588-2002) on TCP/IP corrects the deviation of propagation time using the principle of hardware timestamps to achieve accuracy
of several nanoseconds.
• DHW Transmission
The Afnor standard time information is transmitted via radio waves on frequency 869.525 MHz EN300-2201(EU), FCC15.249(US), EN301.489, it has a
range of 5 km in a free field and limited to a 250m radius subject to the composition of the building structure.

4 Choosing a suitable type of transmission
The diversity of our products combined with different modes of time transmission such as Afnor, NTP, wireless… can meet the needs of our customers and be
adapted to different types of buildings.
Each application has a solution:
• For a new construction, it is possible to anticipate the wiring for power supply and for time code transmission.
• In that case, we can use either Afnor or NTP.
• As part of renovation of a building, it is possible to anticipate a wired time distribution if the cable already exists , or by radio (DHW) if it isn’t possible wiring.
• A NTP synchronization with POE (IEEE 802.3af) power supply is more appropriate if the building is equipped with an Ethernet network.
• In some cases, it is possible to have a mixed solution : Afnor + NTP or NTP + DHW .
GORGY TIMING products can meet all these requirements .
Our offer consists of :
• Master clocks and time servers, whose main functions are to synchronize computer devices, distribute time to clocks, trigger ringtones, activate dry contacts.
• Analog and digital clocks (interior and exterior) for time display, with NTP, DHW, AFNOR NFS87500 receivers
• Dynamic communication displays.
It is necessary to establish a diagnosis, analyse the state of the building structure and the quantity of clocks to be installed, in order to choose the transmission
mode and the type of products that suits the best to your needs in compliance with international standards.

5.3 Power plants
Electrical power requirements must correspond as precisely as possible with production. Load-shedding has to be triggered and synchronized with great accuracy
and these occurrences must be precisely dated. More than ever before, power stations need to be regulated by extremely accurate time /frequency servers.
The timing requirements are made on several accuracy levels :
a)
Events dating : accuracy 1 to 10 ms
This dating is done at source (synchronizing each PLC). The event is dated at its detection by the PLC or the tilt-disturbance recorder. This timing at source is also
called “fine timing”.
b)
Load management: accuracy inferior to 1 µs.
Synchronization of electrical blackouts during periods of peak load-shedding consists in the voluntary shut-down (manually or automatically) one or a few
consumption loads determined in advance in a power network in response to an abnormal situation, in order to maintain network integrity and to reduce blackouts.
The cuts of these elements must be made respecting a very precise timing because of voltages and currents to be handled.
c)
Sale of Energy : accuracy about 100ms
As result of energy deregulation, it was, necessary to design and deploy a new information system for counting, remote servers and record energy meters, installed
on all input and output points of the transportation system. They communicate data to the servers in real time. This equipment located in different locations must be
perfectly synchronised.
The synchronization requirements are used to monitor power grids, including frequency changes 50 or 60Hz.

Railways
In the subways….
Today, the trains circulate without driver, the operator needs a very accurate time for its telecom infrastructure and passengers information.
In the telecommunications SDH / ATM / SONET :
The flow of communication is constantly increasing. For efficient and reliable encoding /decoding, real-time images, videos and sounds, time servers/ frequency are
used with nanoseconds accuracy. This level of precision is required to generate these frequencies 10 Mz , 5 MHz, and 2.048MHz. Our products control and
synchronize information flow (voice, data , sound) via network.
The technology of time synchronization and network computing approximate to provide simpler and more secure time solutions. Thanks to network of data
processing Ethernet/ internet, the time information transmission link in the railways has been greatly simplified and standardized. The networks can carry time and
data over long distances safely and thus allow large savings on wiring.
In trains…
The trains run over 300km/h, the synchronization technology deployed on the tracks and on trains must ensure a flawless reliable and secured process of time
information for safe driving. The railways system needs the time at any level :
Embedded clocks in the trains for on board equipment synchronization.
On the platforms for passengers information.
In the stations for the synchronization for BV(tickets), access control, monitoring CCTV…
In power signal -box
