From th
Welcome to the Autumn edition of What’s On. We have a big
calendar of events to keep you entertained including some
great tribute shows and Sunday afternoon concerts.
We are a family-friendly club so it’s especially important for
us to help our members have a great time over the school
holidays. Keeping the kids entertained on school holidays
can be a tricky task. In addition to Mystery Island Kids Club
activities, we will host A Pirate and Princess Kids Dress-Up
Party during the school holidays. The key feature of the party
will be a children’s disco, set to the live music of one of
South East Queensland’s best cover acts The Zookeepers.
The night’s young pirates and princesses are guaranteed
to go wild on the dance floor thanks to the band’s modern
jive spin on Top 40 hits. There will also be face painting and
balloon artistry.
The four-day Easter weekend is a great time for family days
out. We have a great selection of family meals at Infusion
Bistro and our Mystery Island Kids Club will be holding an
egg hunt. On Easter Sunday there may even be a visit from
the Easter Bunny. (For a full list of the Easter school holiday
activities being held in Mystery Island see page 10).
In April, we commemorate the most important day on the
RSL calendar, ANZAC Day, where we honour those who have
served Australia. There will be two ceremonies, one at 4.28am
at the Cenotaph on the Esplanade at Cotton Tree, and the
main march commencing at 8.30am through Memorial Avenue
and onto the Cenotaph at Cotton Tree. Entry into Maroochy
RSL prior to 1.00pm is by ticket only. League, ex-service and
current service personnel can pre-purchase tickets at the
RSL House and Maroochy RSL from March 24. Maroochy RSL
will open for normal trading at 1.00pm. (For a full program of
the events for ANZAC Day, please refer to page 7).

Maroochy RSL adds new talent to
its management team.
Kevin Stoddart
New Operations Manager Kevin Stoddart, has big
plans to make one of the coast’s most award-winning clubs
even bigger and brighter this year.
Kevin moved to the Sunshine Coast after many years leading
the team at Brothers Leagues Club in Ipswich. He says his
many years in sports coaching has made the move to the club
industry feel like a natural progression.
“I see Maroochy RSL as a benchmark for other clubs for its
track record in service, dining, membership benefits and
sponsoring many great local initiatives.”
“We are planning to grow in 2014 and I’m already working with
staff to boost our operations - we have exciting changes ahead
in almost every area and big plans to commemorate the 100th
anniversary of World War One and the role of our returned
servicemen and women.”
Corey Wheatly
Maroochy RSL and its expert team has
welcomed new face, Corey Wheatley, as
head chef to its busy restaurants.
Born in Maryland, USA and raised in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, Corey has just
moved to the Sunshine Coast from Canberra
and brings a wealth of experience from
restaurants around the globe.
The passionate chef has travelled the world to cook up a storm
in different cultural cuisines and is looking forward to serving up
some fresh new fare to locals and visitors.
“I am excited to join a popular, busy club’s restaurant and café
and reinventing the menu has been a fun challenge, ensuring
that members and guests can still enjoy favourite dishes but
have an opportunity to try something new.”
Corey’s own favourite food is South-Western cuisine, featuring
clever quesadillas and spicy salads to suit everyone’s tastebuds.
“The menu has some new exciting tastes on offer and I am
keen to have feedback from our diners. I understand that
Australian diners like fusion and I love to use local produce and
suppliers, which Maroochy RSL is well-known for supporting,”
he said.
