This Wednesday we begin the great retreat
that we call "Lent." Penance through prayer,
fasting, and almsgiving prepares us during
this season so that we may glory in the
Resurrection. Sometimes, this can seem like
a very tough and unpleasant time. Indeed,
when we become so inclined towards
pleasure and comfort we can experience Lent as a
dry desert. However, Lent not only leads us into this
desert but also towards the cross where we find
Jesus. We discover that Jesus really is the source of
our joy, not pleasure nor power nor comfort. There
is a hidden deeper pleasure in walking with Jesus
and Jesus walking with us in the desert.
Este miércoles comenzamos el gran retiro que
llamamos "Cuaresma".
By the way, the conversion we experience in Lent
includes a conversion in our relationship with others.
For that reason, Resurrection Catholic Community
offers to all an opportunity to address the challenges
for those who are undocumented or in need of legal
aid and cannot afford it.

confined and from clinging to its own security.”

A CHRISTMAS THANK YOU!
Resurrection Catholic Community for years has
had a successful “Adopt a Family” Christmas
ministry to assist families in need. This ministry is
shared with our sister church Prince of Peace. The
Adopt a Family ministry also sponsors Mission La
Divina Providencia. This year The Adopt Family
ministry sponsored over 160 families. Wow what a year and
this is also a record for our church. Our community is growing
and our ministry is only successful for all the great volunteers
and sponsors who gave from their hearts.
I would like to give a special thank you to those who sponsored
a family, volunteered in registering the families, and helped
distributed the gifts to the families. My heart was moved by the
volunteers who showed up and worked hard to bring a little joy
to these families. You guys are very special and I appreciate all
that you do.
At this time I would like to give a shout out to Ramiro Rangel
with “R & R Moving services” thank you so much my friend
couldn’t have done without you. Ramiro’s company gave us
use of his company moving truck to bring all the gifts from
Prince of Peace back to Resurrection and of his time to help
load the gifts for distribution.
I would like to also give Beatric Carrillo with “Club Area 45”
a special thank you to her and her company for the kind
generosity they did in having a toy drive at her Club. It was
successful because of the overabundance of toys they gave so
that we were able to give more this year to all the families that
registered and to those families that were unable to.
Thank you all so very much!! Words alone can’t express how
much I appreciate you all for your time and generosity.
Kindness Regards and God Bless you all.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH
Greetings from the high
school and middle school
youth ministry department at
Resurrection! We have been
blessed to start the semester
strong with an incredible year
planned. Our Spring
Semester theme is The John
6:68 Series: To Whom Shall
We Go? Throughout the
semester we will be focusing
on who God is and why His
existence should change
everything about how we live
our lives. This semester will consist of teaching nights,
fellowship nights, issue nights where we address a current
issue the teens face, trips to Adore Central in downtown
Houston, service projects, fun events, sacrament
preparation, and more. New this semester is Open
Tutoring, where middle schoolers and high schoolers can
come to Resurrection from 3:30-4:30 every MondayThursday for free tutoring. If a teen needs tutoring but
cannot come during that time slot, the missionaries are
always available by appointment to help. Pictured below
is an Open Tutoring session with
some Resurrection middle schoolers
and one of our Spring fellowship
nights were we had a photo booth.
God Bless!
