Olive
Branch
Mount Olive Lutheran Church
2170 Havasupai Blvd. Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403
August 2016, No. 738
A Message From
Our Pastor
As most of you have heard by now,
Kim and I have an offer on our house and
property in Wisconsin. The closing date has been
set for August 19th and we are hopeful that the date
stays firm as the inspection, loan and appraisal process continues in the days ahead. All of us are anxious for the day when Kim will be joining me here in
Lake Havasu City and the Mount Olive Lutheran
family. Thank you for your continued prayers for
the sale of our house. Your faithful petitions (and
ours) have been heard. Thanks be to God!!
I will be returning to Wisconsin on the evening of
August 14th to reunite with Kim and assist with final
packing and moving van preparations. Sharon Harvey will be presiding and giving the sermon during
all worship services on August 20 and 21. Suzanne
Waldron will be available for chaplaincy needs.
Please contact the office for a contact phone number
should the need arise.
I encourage you to consider the following words
from Colossians 2:2 (The Message Version) "I want
you woven into a tapestry of love, in touch with everything there is to know of God. Then you will have
minds confident and at rest, focused on Christ, God's
great mystery."
Once again, we are reminded to keep our hearts
and minds focused on Jesus Christ. What he did for
humanity (for you and me) through his sacrifice,
death and resurrection. He loved the world with a
love greater than any love we have ever known or
seen. His love empowers us to focus daily on His
calling to follow, to serve and to love and to set self
aside. Be woven into His tapestry!
Grace and Peace
Pastor Craig

A Message from our
Council President
The financial audit date has been moved to August 1st. The Council is excited for this process
and hopeful that the CPA will have suggestions
to ensure our financial processes are efficient
and secure.
The Praise Band has received a donation to help
fund a new Rolan electronic keyboard. Thank
you to Curt Schmaltz who drove to Las Vegas
to pick it up.
We are still in need of volunteers for the following positions within the church:
Property Board Chair: This position will be
made easier with a policy book being completed
by Pastor Craig and a team of Council members
and past Property Board Chairs.
Radio Ministry Audio Editing: Pastor Cr aig
is hopeful for 2 to 3 volunteers so that this could
be a rotating volunteer job. Training will be
provided and it is a 2 to 3 hour commitment per
week.
Sunday School Director: Sear ching for
someone to work with the great team of Sunday
School teachers! Responsibilities will include
reporting to Christian Education Board, ensuring supplies are available for Sunday School
curriculum, and planning for fun events such as
Sunday School Rally Day and Christmas play.
Sunday School runs September through beginning of May.
Please join us for the next Council meeting on
Thursday, August 18th at 7 pm in the Choir
Room.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my
heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart
leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”

Our sympathy is extended to Diane & Bob Pelzer, family and

away June 30, 2016.
...also to Pat Scheel, family and friends of
who passed away on July 5, 2016.
...also to Maryanne Ferraro, Lisa Dewey, family and friends
of
who passed away July 9, 2016.
...also to the family and friends of
who passed

(Kris’ Father) who passed away on July 12, 2016.
...and also to Darlene & Don Mindler and family of
(Darlene’s Mother) passed away on July 23, 2016.
50th Year Anniversary
will be celebrated in two events.
The first event will be held on
December 16, 2016 - celebrating
the
actual anniversary date. We will be having a
potluck and showing a walk down memory lane
via a slide show.
The second celebration will be held on January
29, 2017, after the busy Christmas season to
allow for people in the ministry in other loca2
tions to attend.
The WELCA Council meeting will be Wednesday,
September, 7, 2016, at 8 am at the
Parish Center.
There will be no WELCA Council meetings or
Circle Meetings during the month of August. Meetings will resume again on Tuesday, September13 at 1pm in the Parish Center. Judy Thomas will lead the discussion from chapter five of
the book, “A Faith for all Seasons”, Virginia Hauan will be the hostess.
Pull-tabs from soda cans are collect-
ed to help raise money for the Ronald
McDonald House.
Please drop them off in
the office or leave them
on the table when you
leave worship services.
We also collect postage
stamps which are sent
to a church group in
Norway.
All women of Mount Olive are
welcome to came and attend our
Circle meetings.
WELCA’s first big exercise of the year will be to organize and
present the WHITE BURRO SALE at the end of October. We are
inviting all people of Mount Olive to pitch in and help us make
this sale successful. We always have a lot of fun working together
and getting to know each other better over the days of “setting up”
the merchandise and actually selling the items. We especially invite people new to our church who have not helped before. This is
a perfect opportunity for people who attend different services to get together to become acquainted. The WHITE BURRO SALE creates a
really joyful experience of bringing people together.
SO—now is the time to get very serious about
going through the house, garage, yard, and anywhere else to gather up items to donate to this
terrific event. FACT: One person’s give-aways are another person’s treasure. (We’re sorry to say we do not accept televisions,
exercise, and computer equipment for the sale.)
Watch for notices of dates, times and places for the collection of
your donated items and please be aware that we appreciate all you
do to make the WHITE BURRO SALE a success which helps
charities in Lake Havasu City do good things for people who need
help.
Proceeds from this sale are donated by WELCA to various charities3 in Lake Havasu City. The WHITE BURRO SALE is a great
way to raise money for a great cause.

Ricky Lynd has given notice that he will not be able to provide
the congregation with broadcast editing services in the very near
future. We are seeking a person or persons who would be willing
to learn the process of editing the Sunday worship for radio
broadcast the following week. The process involves 2-3 hours of
editing each week with a preferred submittal day of Wednesday
to the local radio station. Computer skills are a must, with cut and paste experience, and preferably an ear for sound editing. Please contact Pastor Craig if you
are interested in this position or if you know of an individual you think we should
contact regarding the position.

Church Hualapai Picnic
Saturday Sept 10th 11AM-3PM
Mark your calendar and sign up for our annual
church picnic in the beautiful cool Hualapai Mountains Site #3 on Saturday September 10. The
Fellowship Board will provide for place settings
along with coffee, cold water, sweetened lemonade and sun tea to drink. We
will have electricity for crockpots, but do not plan to use the stove or oven
as they are not reliable. Please start thinking of what kind of dish or salad
you would like to bring. If you are bringing your dog, please note park rules
state they must be on a leash at all times. All vehicles will need to be moved
out of the site parking area by 3PM if you wish to stay beyond that time.
We are looking for volunteers to help prepare the site and clean up after
the picnic. If you can help with set up, clean-up or just want more information please join us at our next Committee Meeting at 9AM Sunday 8/4/15
between the services in the coffee cafe. Many hands make the work less
and more fun too! Please see the Poster in the Narthex with sign-up sheets.
Help Wanted
The Family Fellowship Committee needs help with the Hualapai
Picnic on Saturday September 10th.
If you can assist in preparing the site before our event or help
cleaning up after, please sign up in the Narthex and attend our
meeting on Sunday August 14th at 9AM in the Lakeside Room.
Thank you!

Mount Olive Cursillo, Via de Cristo,
and Tirosh Community
In just a few weeks we will be participating in the fall
Cursillo Weekends. The Men’s Weekend #149 will be on
October 6-9, and the Women’s Weekend #150 will be on October
13-16.
I would like to share with you a letter from a women who attended a Cursillo Weekend, thanking her Sponsor. She said she had
been thinking about things in her life that she was so thankful for and going to Cursillo was
one that came to mind.
“Cursillo has changed our lives. While we were always church goers, that’s where it
stopped. Through Cursillo, our relationship with Christ has blossomed into something I never
expected that could bring us such peace, joy, serenity, love and the list goes on.
Thank you for seeing in us the light of Christ and helping us to make that light brighter.
Thank you for showing us how to share our light with others. And thank you for being the
friend who brought us to Christ.”
As we Christians try to walk and talk our love and devotion for our Heavenly Father in our
daily lives. How are we doing? Are we really showing those around us that we truly love and
care about them? Are we sharing what our Lord most wants us to share? It is called LOVE for
one another.
God loved us enough to send His Only Son to die a horrible death for us!!!! Jesus suffered
and died for us for our sins that we would have everlasting life. He did all that because He
LOVES us. Is it too much to ask of us to truly love one another and
to be kind and loving to all people who we come in contact with? Not just the special people
in our lives. It goes beyond our circle of friends.
Let us be mindful of those who would be blessed to go to a Cursillo Weekend. Let us also
pray for the upcoming weekends that the participants will come away feeling the intense love
of Christ and filled with the Holy Spirit.
