February 15 - St. Anthony of Padua Parish
St. Anthony of Padua 101 E Virginia Ave Effingham IL 62401 217-347-7129 February 15, 2015 ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA PARISH EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS Padre’s point of view . . .As you may be aware, these weeks in the bulletin I am explaining each of the rules that I have made and try to live by. At the office, in our schools and churches, I encourage those with me to do the same. So here is Rule #3: Live life to the fullest, you only get one chance! I have had this rule in the back of my mind long before I completed my bucket list at age 33. I am blessed and always waiting for the next opportunity. Life is the greatest gift God has given us. It passes by so fast and there is so much just waiting to be experienced. I know that every day could be my last. I know that God packs each day with opportunities to change lives, mine and yours. I know that sitting in front of a television is not how God wants me to spend my time in this precious world. Please live your life to the fullest. Every moment is a gift! Fr. Chris will be in the St. Anthony Church office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He will be in the Sacred Heart Church office on Wednesdays and Fridays. We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Denise (Haarmann) Hahn (Class of ‘78) and Minnie Luchtefeld. May they enjoy eternal peace and happiness in Heaven. The CCW ladies will be quilting in the Parish Center from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday starting Monday, February 16th. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join in. Come and stay as long as you wish! CCWNEWS The March meeting of the CCW will be Tuesday, March 3 after the 8:30 Mass. Our speaker will be Becky Donaldson from the Diocesan Office. She will inform us of the Annulment process and the changes that have taken place. We will be inviting the CCW ladies from Shumway and Sacred Heart to join us for this informative meeting. The last quarter of the year our host, wine and candle costs were $15 7 6 and cleaning supplies and laundry were $240.This, of course, is part of what our dues and fund raisers help pay for. Our deanery meeting will be Tues, March 1 7 at Christ the King in Greenup and anyone that would like to attend is welcome. At the March meeting we will be asking volunteers to bring food to the Family Life Planning Center for the meetings they have with their staff and clients. The officers covered the month of October and we are hoping some of you will help cover the 5 dates in April. Mark your calendar for the March 3 meeting and also Sunday, May 3 for the Annual May Breakfast. Please pray for Restoration of Religious Liberty, those who are ill, those in hospitals and nursing homes, those recovering from surgery, and all those serving our country. Also, Joe Adams, Sr. Angelica, Doris Dasenbrock, Jeaneane Jenne, Luke Johnson, Ted Keller, Kathy Koester, Jane McDevitt, Bill Mette, Floyd Pagel, Esther Poterucha, Michael Poterucha, Marilyn Shoftstall, Ron Shoffstall, Gruen VonBehrens, Dan Willenborg. This week in RCIA…We listened and asked questions about prayer and devotionals. Fr. Ron provided examples and definitions and experiences of prayer. One consistent theme was evident at the conclusion: we need prayer in our lives and we need to pray often. The acronym A.C.T.S. was explained. When thinking about ‘how to’ pray, for those of us who struggle or have a difficult time on where to start with prayer or how to pray, we learned one way is to initiate prayer is with a prayer of adoration, recognizing our God as the omnipotent Triune God, who we love above all and everything. We might follow that prayer with one of contrition, recognizing who we are, created out of the fullness of God’s love, yet falling short of perfect love, because of our sinfulness. It is always good to offer a prayer of thanksgiving after recognizing who God is and who we are, and how blessed we are because our God is a generous God. Like the Mass, our personal prayer usually contains prayers for things we want to ask God for. These prayers of supplication are ways for us to speak to God specifically for the needs of people, and even our own personal needs. As we approach the third period of the RCIA process, in name called “Purification and Enlightenment” and observed during Lent, it is good we recall how we pray. On Sunday February 22 at the Sunday masses in our parishes, we will celebrate with the candidates and catechumens, the Rite of Sending. This formal rite has the unbaptized sign their name in the Book of the Elect. Bishop Paprocki will formally greet and recognize catechumens and candidates from our parishes later that afternoon at the Cathedral in Springfield. We ask you to keep these men and women in your prayers. Deacon Joe St. Anthony High School Chapel Mass Thursday 7:00 a.m. (Except the 3rd Thursday of every month) (Subject to Change. Abortion clinics are closing in record numbers due to the tireless work of men, women, and young people all across the nation. America is beginning to reject abortion, and that is evidenced in closed clinics and historically low abortion numbers. When abortion clinics close, lives are saved (Operation Rescue).
