‘n Buffel is Maandagoggend in die bosse naby die DBV van kant
gemaak.
Inwoners van Phalaborwa was Maandagoggend erg verbaas toe ‘n
buffel in Parkstraat gewaar is.
Jaco Gericke was gou op die toneel en het die buffel probeer volg. Hy
sê alhoewel die dier verward voorgekom het, was dit nie nodig om dit te
jaag nie en het hy maar slegs agter die buffel aangery. Die Departement
van Omgewingsake is in kennis gestel.
Dirk de Klerk van die departement het die buffel in die bosse naby die
DBV opgespoor en die dier van kant gemaak.
Lede van die DBV en omstanders was hewig ontsteld hieroor.
Hulle het gevoel dat die dier liewers verdoof en dan hervestig moes
word. De Klerk sê egter dat hy geen ander keuse gehad het as om dit
te skiet nie, aangesien buffels ‘n groot gevaar vir inwoners kan inhou.
Hy sê verder dat buffels draers van bek-en-klouseer is en dat dit nie
in ‘n ander gebied hervestig kon word nie.
Die buffel was volgens hom ook nie in ‘n gesonde toestand nie en was
boonop oortrek met bosluise.
Die vermoede is dat die bul van ‘n trop afgedwaal het.

Phalaborwa police arrested eight

Phalaborwa police reported the arrest of
eight people the past week.

Makgopa,
spokesperson for Phalaborwa police said
two people were arrested for theft, one for
assault common, one for malicious damage
to property, two for fraud and two for
possession of suspected stolen property.
Sergeant Malesela Makgopa said there
are surveillance cameras installed in three
strategic places around town.
‘The cameras are used to monitor crime
in Phalaborwa. If anybody is arrested, the
footages will be used to charge the suspect
in court,’ said Makgopa.

A boy (12)raped
A man suspected of raping a 12-year-old boy
was arrested at Majeje village on Saturday.
According to the Namakgale police
spokesperson Constable Lucy Sekgotodi, the
victim was on his way to the shop at around
17:30 when he met a man who then pulled
him to the nearby bushes.
‘It is alleged that the suspect sodomised the
victim and fled the scene but was later arrested
by Namakgale police,’ said Sekgotodi.
The suspect is expected to appear at
Lulekani Magistrate Court soon.
Car stolen at tavern
A white Volkswagen Polo was stolen at a
tavern in Namakgale on Saturday at around
23:40.
A woman from Namakgale Long Till section
was woken up by an unknown man who broke
her window with a brick demanding money in
the early hours of Saturday.
According
to
Namakgale
police
spokesperson, Constable Lucy Sekgotodi, the
man threw a brick through the window which
apparently hit the victim’s mouth and broke
her front teeth.
‘The suspect threatened to burn the house
if he doesn’t get money, the victim then gave
him R50 and he left,’ said Sekgotodi.
Sekgotodi said the suspect has not been
arrested yet.
A case of house robbery was opened and
investigations continue.

Police arrest eight
Gravelotte police apprehended only eight
people over the past week.
According to Constable Phineas Masihla,
spokesperson for the Gravelotte police
station, one person was nabbed for drinking
in public, one for possession of wild meat,
one for unlawful hunting and one for illegal
immigration.
Two people were arrested for possession for
dagga, one for selling liquor without a license
and one for driving motor vehicle without a
license.
Namakgale police station arrested 13 people
the past week for various criminal activities.
According to Constable Lucy Sekgotodi,
spokesperson for the Namakgale police
station, one person was arrested for malicious
damage to property, two for common robbery,
one for drunk and driving, one for failure to
comply with Liquor Act and three for public
drinking.
One person was nabbed for child
negligence, two for possession of suspected
stolen property, one for rape and one for theft
out of a motor vehicle.

tavern.
‘The victim only realised that his car was
missing when he wanted to go home. The
car’s registration number is CKL 651 L,’ said

A 36 year-old Phalaborwa woman gave
birth to a baby boy weighing over 6 kg at
Mankweng Hospital on Thursday.
Treasure Hlongwane delivered the baby,
Blessing via c-section, weighing 6,680 kg and
measuring 47 cm.
An average baby birth weight is between 2,5
kg and 4 kg.
According to the provincial Department of
Health spokesperson, Adele van der Linde,
the baby is the biggest born in the province.
Evelyn Kgatla, a midwife at the hospital,
was amazed by the baby and cited baby
Blessing to be among the five biggest babies
born in South Africa.
Both baby and mother are doing fine.

The South Africa National Defence Force,
7 South Africa Infantry Battalion (7 SAIBN)
unit came out in numbers to participate in
their farewell parade held at Namakgale
Stadium on Wednesday.
SANDF has been in the forefront in the
peacekeeping mission of the African Region.
Troops from 7SAI BN will be leaving
South Africa for Sudan on November 11 on a
peacekeeping mission.
Speaking during the event, acting mayor
of Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Sam Malatji
said: ‘As part of its mandate under a democratic
dispensation, the SANDF has contributed to
play a crucial role in supporting the South
African government’s foreign policy by being
ready to respond to calls to promote and
support peace and stability on the continent
whether on a bi-lateral or multi-lateral level’.
Lieutenant Colonel Vusi Maseko promised
the audience that they won’t lose or leave any
man in Sudan. ‘We will all come back home
safe,’ he said.
Maseko also thanked all stakeholders and
family members who came to support his
troops.
Community and family members of the
soldiers also attended the parade to give
support to their loved once.
The atmosphere at Namakgale Stadium
was full of joyful sounds as old ladies raised
their voices in ululation when their children
displayed their beautiful skills of parading.

Vaccinate against rabies
Rabies, is present in Phalaborwa and
poses a real threat to the Ba-Phalaborwa
Community, says veterinarian Gerrit
Scheepers. Five positive cases of Rabies
were reported and two of these dog
owners were bitten. He says that they
are currently receiving intensive and very
expensive treatment. He urges owners, that
all previously vaccinated and unvaccinated
dogs and cats older than three months of
age to be presented for a free rabies booster
vaccination at Phalaborwa Animal-Bird
Clinic 46 Tulbachstreet. Even if they were
vaccinated recently at Impala Park.

Lulekani police are urging the community
members to be on the lookout for people who
impersonate police officials around Lulekani
area especially at the ATM, post office and
shopping centre.

complaints lately about people who claim to
be police investigators.
‘They usually say money has been stolen and
they need to investigate about your money,’
said Mabasa. She advised the residents not
to give anyone their money or belongings
on that regard. She further said that their
investigation officers have appointment
cards which they need to produce when
investigating a case.
‘They will not ask to take your money

for any investigation. Also if such case be
investigated they will be using their state
vehicles and will ask you to come to the
station for investigation not in the corner
or some hiding place. If anyone meets these
people or such incidents, they must report
immediately to the police,’ said Mabasa. She

such criminal act will be arrested and face
charges on that regard

Community Hall on Saturday.
The workshop was orgnised under the
Pilot Project which is managed by Klaas
Motebejane and Prince Sithole.
The main aim of the workshop was to revive
the culture of traditional dancing, singing,
storytelling, poetry and indigenous games.
Putla Sehlapelo, director of the drama
‘Skeem Sam’ and an actor in numerous films
and dramas, reminded the learners that they
should be proud of who they are and their
different cultures.
‘Phalaborwa has talent and we are looking
forward to working with you. We want you
to audition in the next season of Skeem Sam,
Limpopo rocks!’ said Sehlapelo.
Former actress, Nkhensani Mlondzo said,
they are ploughing back to the community
that raised them. ‘Performing arts is also a
career and we want these children to express
their talent at a young age,’ said Mlondzo.
Generations actor, Mandla Gaduka known
as ‘Choppa’ said he was proud of the work
that the performing arts group put in. ‘These
children can achieve what they want but you
must go to school first. We surely have talent
in this place, I’m impressed’ said Gaduka.

Workers at Freddy’s Minerals downed tools
for seven weeks to demand wage increase.
About 58 workers affiliated to the National
Union of Mineworkers (NUM) staged a
protest at Freddy’s Mineral in Greek near
Phalaborwa.
Workers were demanding 15% increase
while employers are offering 5% increase.
The lowest paid employee earns R1 200,
this according to NUM secretary Audrey
Nyathi.
She said employees decided to strike
after the workers’
union and company
management
reached a deadlock
in negotiations for
better wages. ‘Most
of the employees
have been working
here for long but they
earn peanuts, we
can’t even take care
of our families as we
are suppose to,’ said
Nyathi.
She also said that
during their strike
in September, the
CEO of the company
Egbert
Robison
fired few gun shots
on the air. ‘We were
all scared and we
opened a case at the
police station,’ said
Nyathi.
The workers said
they are prepared
to strike until they
reach an agreement.
The strike is covered
by the no work-no
pay policy.
Participants said
they are not bothered
by this principle
as they believe the
demanded amount is
worth the risk.

Coetzee vanaf die Oranje Vrystaat verhuis het om hulle in Oktober 1963 op Phalaborwa te kom vestig. Dit was die geboorte van Coetzee Prokureurs.
Oom Koos en Tannie Annetjie het destyds baie nederig met die firma begin en dit stelselmatig tot 'n gesogde en betroubare firma uitgebou.
Die firmanaam, Coetzee en Van der Merwe, het ontstaan toe 'n vennootskap gesluit is tussen Koos Coetzee en Gerrit van der Merwe, beter bekend as
Rooies. Die firma was in die beginjare baie nou betrokke met dorpsontwikkeling en ook met Foskor se bedrywighede. Diep spore is op Phalaborwa
getrap. Oom Koos is in Januarie 2000 oorlede. Tannie Annetjie het by die firma aangebly en in 2010 besluit om af te tree.
Frederik Meintjes sluit hom in 1995, as kandidaatprokureur, by die firma aan. Hy word in 1997 deur die hooggeregshof as prokureur toegelaat. Met

The dispute between the chief and his brother at
Makhushane is finally over.
Kgoshi Andries Malatji and his brother Matome Malatji
have reconciled after their fight over chieftaincy. This
became evident when Kgoshi Andries Malatji addressed
the community of Makhushane village who came out in
large number for the Communal Property Association
meeting held at tribal offices on Saturday.
Residents lodged a land claim years back. This resulted

Almal is uitgenooi na Phalaborwa
rugbyklub se AGM.
Die Algemene Jaarvergadering van
Phalaborwa rugbyklub vind op 24 Oktober
(vandag) om 18:00 by Impala Park plaas.
Alle lede en ander belangstellendes word
uitgenooi om die vergadering by te woon.
‘n Nuwe bestuur vir volgende seisoen sal
tydens die vergadering verkies word.
Phalaborwa Rugbyklub het ‘n goeie seisoen
gehad met vyf wedstryde gespeel, wen vier
met groot tellings en verloor in die eindstryd.
Alle betrokkenes word dus genooi om die
vergadering by te woon.
TROTSE WENNERS: CP van Wyk en ChrisƟaan Roos is die trotse wenners
van die 6-uur uitdaagwedren
WENNERS: Die junior mans wenners van die
bergfietswedren is van links, ChrisƟaan Roos,
2de plek, CP van Wyk,1ste plek en Marco Roets,
3de plek

Phalaborwa Cycling Club het verlede
Saterdag ‘n baie suksesvolle bergfietswedren
aangebied.
Fietsryers van verskeie klubs in die land het
deelgeneem.
Morne Simpson van Phalaborwa Cycling
Club sê dat dit die eerste keer is dat die
wedren op Phalaborwa aangebied is.
Die wedren het gedien as ‘n Limpopo
kwalifiserende wedren.
Na die bergfietswedren, was die hoogtepunt
van die dag, die Simpson Motors Moon to
Moon 6-uur uitdaagwedren waarna almal
uitgesien het.
Die wedren het baie belangstelling gelok
en toeskouers het vanaf 15:00 die middag tot
21:00 die aand, die koel windjie trotseer om
die ryers aan te moedig.
GOEIE TWEEDE: Edwin Simpson, Marcell vd Pohl, Michael Smit en Pieter
Jacobs behaal as span ‘n goeie 2de plek in die 6-uur uitdaagwedren.
