Granites and Earth’s Evolution
Second International Conference
Granites and Continental Crust
2014, August, 17–20.

Second Circular
Presence of continental crust with wide distribution of granitoids is the unique feature
that discriminate Earth from other planets in Solar System. Granitic rocks are the subjects of
permanent attention of geologists already for several centuries. Over this time opinions
about nature and formation conditions of these rocks have passed a long way from
discussion about their magmatic or sedimentary genesis via ideas about formation of felsic
magmas exclusively by differentiation of mafic melts and to acceptance the crustal nature
for most of granitoids.
Though evident progress in understanding of forming conditions for granitoids of
different composition and their role in forming of ore deposits the interest in these rocks not
slacken. Great number of publications in leading journals and existence of important
international standing conferences such as Hutton Symposium indicate this. The 1st
International Conference "Granites and Earth's Evolution" held in 2008 in Ulan-Ude
(Buryatia, Russia) and devoted just to problems of geodynamic nature and ore potential of
granitoid batholites.
At the same time problems of granitoid genesis closely related with problems of
continental crust forming and evolution. Interest in this relation arose about half a century
ago and there is "explosive" increase of publications in last 20 years about sources and
mechanism of forming, transformation and evolution of continental crust of cratons and
folded belts. Specifically it has ascertained that sources and mechanisms of continental crust
forming (primarily – proportion between ancient and juvenile material) are sharply differ in
diverse segments of Earth's crust; and these differences reflect in granitoid composition.
The aim of 2nf International Conference "Granites and Earth's Evolution" is to join
leading scientists specializing in solving of problems of granitoid petrology and formation
and evolution of continental crust. At the same time more themes about sources and
mechanisms of granitoid formation, conditions of intrusion and consolidation of granite
bodies, geodynamic environments of granitoid magmatism and others are planned to discuss
on Conference.
We hope participation in Conference will interesting and efficient for You!

Within the Central Asian orogenic belt special attention is drawn to largest granitoid
batholiths – Angaro-Vitim in western Transbaikalia and Kalba-Narym in East Kazakhstan. These
regions have an important common feature - the widespread granitoid magmatism [Yarmolyuk et al,
2013], the peak intensity which falls on the Carboniferous-Permian border…

corresponding to scope of conference.
GEOLOGICAL FIELD TRIPS
Syn-Conference Geological Excursion: august 16 (one day) and august 20 (half day)
During Field Trip it will be shown some granite massifs near and within Novosibirsk city. In
the quarries can be observed following rocks:
1. Early Triassic biotite-hornblende granosyenites of Priobsky complex (T1) with mafic schlierens
and xenolithes;
2. Post-granitic dikes of leucogranites, aplites and pegmatite bodies;
3. The wide range of Early Triassic dike rocks (quartz syenites, diorites, dolerites);
4 Early-Middle Triassic biotite leucogranites of Barlak complex (T1-2).
Post-Conference Field Excursion (august 21-27)
Excursion will be held in Northwest Altai near Zmeinogorsk town and Kolyvan village,
where geotectonic structures of Gorny (Mountain) Altai and Rudny (Mining) Altai intersect.
Participants may learn the regional geological structure of Rudny Altai and visit some granitoid and
gabbro-grantoid intrusions from Middle Devonian to Early Triassic ages.
Expected objects for the Field Excurcion are:
1. Oldest (395±3 Ma) suprasubduction plagiogranites of Rudny Altai;
2. The wide range of Late Devonian (376-371 Ma) intrusive rocks пород, formed in
transform continental margin condition, including gabbro and low-alumina plagiogranite of
Zmeinogorsky complex (Rudny Altai), calc-alkaline tonalites and granodiorites of Ust-Belovsky
complex (Gorny and Rudny Altai), potassium high-alumina biotite granites and leucogranites of
Ustiyansky and Borovlyansky complexes (Rudny and Gorny Altai respectively)
3. Carboniferous (340-320 Ma) magmatic complexes indicating the collision of Siberia and
Kazakhstan continents: early-collision gabbros and monzodiorites of Kharlovsky complex (Gorny
Altai); high-alumina tonalites of Gilevsky complex, calc-alkaline granodiorites and high-alumina
granites and leucogranites of Volchikhnsky comlex (Rudny Altai);
4. Permian-Triassic (250-240 Ma) granitoids of Savvushkinsky and Sinyushinsky massifs
(Rudny and Gorny Altai respectively, forming part of of Late Paleozoic - Early Mesozoic Siberian
Large Igneous Province.
During the excursion is planned to visit the stone-cutting factory in Kolyvan village and
Museum in Zmeinogorsk town.
Accommodation of the participants plans to the hotel of Zmeinogorsk town.
A number of objects which planned to visit during excursion are in a border area of the
Russian Federation.
To get the permission to stay in the border zone tour participants need until May 1 to
send to the organizing committee the scanned copy of passport (first page with personal data
and a page with a registration mark).
CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEE:
Registration fee for participation in the conference is 120 Euro. The registration fee includes:
program and conference materials, tea and coffee breaks between sessions, participation in field
trips during the conference (1.5 days), a banquet at conference opening. For students and
graduate students the registration fee is 70 Euro.
The fee for the post-conference field trip at Northwestern Altai (August 21-27) is 600 Euro,
and includes: tour guide, transfer Novosibirsk - Zmeinogorsk - Novosibirsk, transportation on all
excursion objects, hotel accommodation, and meals for 7 days. For students and graduate
students (3-5 people maximum) cost of participation in the tour - 400 Euro.
