Inger
Berggren, President of The World Bank
of Women in Madrid
Swedish, born in
1947, has lived 22
years in Spain
Only
8% of loans given by banks, are given to
women, because banks do not believe in
women’s projects.
Small companies owned by women seek for
self-employment or, maximum, to hire only
one person.
Years ago, the majority of customers used to
be immigrant women (70% versus 55% in
2006) and now they are mainly Spanish
women between 35 and 40 years old.
“CREATIVITY IS BORN FROM ANXIETY”
Tasks made by women at home:
Taking care of the children
Household cleaning
Preparing the food
…
But these tasks are not paid, so they do not have an
economic value; but they are very valuable by society,
or not?
In Spain, there are almost 5 million people
unemployed today, more than 20% of the working
population, the only way to keep on trying is by
“family solidarity”.
Women play a very important role as grandmothers,
mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins, etc…
Again in history , women who have brought up
their children, now they need again to bring up
their grandchildren and help their sons and
daughters: they pick them up at schools, they
take care of them when they are ill and, if
necessary, they have got them at home
meanwhile they also take care of their parents,
if they are still alive.
Women are the true “ mattresses” that slow
down problems in a silent way during the crisis.
In crisis situations, FAMILY has sense again!!!
We
live in an economic system that values
the mercantile production space , and
forgets the space of human development
where domestic and household tasks are
made and where products and services from
” interdependence” are produced of:
relationships, feeling, taking care, etc…
During
this crisis, we tend to keep on
forgetting to revise the concept of work, and
should promote and give more value to
everything that means “interdependence”, in
which we all live.
We
should give more visibility and value to
the time that women dedicate to take care
of others and give the needed services to
keep on living as having to be taken the
responsibility of others by both men and
women and, also by the whole society.
CRISTINA CARRASCO/ Professor of Economic Theory at the
University of Economics in Barcelona.
The actual CRISIS is an
opportunity to
activate the needed reforms in
the economy with the
intervention of new players with
new ideas: the women!!!
IRENE NATIVIDAD, President of the Global Summit of Women
+ 1,3 million families have all members unemployed.
Spanish women over 45 have gone back to the labor
market.
Women as a whole, support better the crisis, as their
occupancy rate is growing (52%); although having
more women employed (27.900) does not compensate
the unemployment of men (166.500).
Even though many Women are better trained than
men, they have got less access to jobs, less qualified,
and with lower salaries.

How many Women today are in charge of their
families, let’s say the “bread winners”???
“
The majority of Women become
entrepreneurs as they find it difficult to
combine both family and work”
Asunta López & Carolina Martinez, founders
of www.littleone.es, first portal specialized
in kids’ clothing selling “online”
Crisis
started in masculine sectors of the
economy like industry and construction.
Young women, below 30: higher
unemployment than men.
Women older + 55: lower unemployment
than men.
Part time jobs: Women, one out of 4 women
working, and one out of 20 employees.

Some
men say that Women are not so
efficient in crisis situation, why???
The situation of women in the Spanish
market is suffering discrimination, not only
in management positions but also as
employees: “ maternal mobbing”. Young
women with children (normally below 3) and
pregnant women, are almost in situation of
social exclusion.
“TOUGH YET LIGHT, STRONG YET SOFT”
Sometimes
even though that Women are
more prepared than men, they have got a
lower chance to get responsibility positions,
and get worst jobs and salaries.
“INVENTION, DISCOVERIES AND BIG STRATEGIES
ARE GIVEN MAINLY DURING CRISIS MOMENTS”
Employment for women is worst than for men (ATA,
Federación Nacional de Asociaciones de Trabajadores
Autónomos).
Men’s employment rate is 67,7% and women 52,6%.
Also the number of employees, are 54,2% for men
and 41,7% for women.
Unemployed people today are 4.833.700, almost 5
million people, with a rate of 20,89%.

Women
still perceive 25 % less salary than
men for a job of a similar value ( CCOO trade
Union 2011).
Women Managers have decreased from 19%
in 2008 to 11,70% in 2011, which means a
38% less since the beginning of the crisis
(source: ESADE & ICSA).
Society makes a very important investment
in Women, that are approximately 50% of
University students, and afterwards it is not
paid off.
Women
are afraid of starting a business.
Women are more discreet, less ambitious and
suffer less due to the crisis.
Women normally create small companies in
the textile, food, artisanal or aesthetics
sectors, those that banks believe are not
enough profitable.
Approximately 54.000 business bankrupt in
the first 5 months of 2010, and only 9.000
were owned by women.
"Whatever you give a woman, she's
going to multiply.
If you give her sperm, she'll give you
a baby.
If you give her a house, she'll give you a
home.
If you give her groceries, she'll give you a
meal.
If you give her a smile, she'll give you her
heart.
She multiplies and enlarges what is given to
her.
So,
if you give her any crap, you will receive a
ton of shit."
Love and appreciate all the women in your
life.
THANK YOU FOR
YOUR
ATTENTION!!!
