Project Spotlight
Seguin Public Library
Located on Nolte Street, the new building will replace the outdated one located on
College Street that has served the community for dozens of years.
Voters approved $14.8 million for the project during a bond election held in
2013. The new library was designed by 720 Design and the construction manager on the project is Byrne Construction Services. The building is being
built along Walnut Creek and will essentially become an extension of the city's linear park space on the creek
Designed as a 43,000 square foot facility, the new building will include designated spaces for child, teen and adult patrons; study rooms; a large public
meeting room; and smaller conference type meeting rooms. Take a sneak peek below of what the inside of the new library looks like!
Thank you
We would like to thank Cody Smith for his professionalism and hard work alongside all Masters Team members that have and will work on this project.
Please realize the importance of this project and the future generation that will benefit from it. We also want to thank T.S. Byrne Construction for giving
Masters Electrical Services, LTD. the opportunity to work on this unique project.

Q. What is the Code rule for sizing short circuit and ground fault protection for a single motor branch circuit?
A. The motor branch circuit, short circuit and ground fault protective device must comply with the requirements of Sec. 430.52(B) and
Sec. 430.52(C). As noted in 430.52(B), a motor branch circuit short circuit and ground fault protective device must be capable of carrying
the motor’s starting current. As noted in 430.52(C)(1), each motor branch circuit must be protected against short circuit and ground faults
by a protective device sized no greater than the percentages listed in Table 430.52 (Table).
Let’s run through an
example problem to
show you how this is
done.
What size conductor and
inverse time circuit
breaker are required for
a 2-hp, 230V, singlephase motor with 75°C terminals (Figure)?
Step 1: Determine the branch circuit conductor [Table 310.15(B)
(16), 430.22, and Table 430.248]:
12A × 1.25 = 15A
A quick check of Table 310.15(B)(16) reveals that a 14 AWG
conductor is rated 20A at 75°C
Step 2: Determine the branch circuit protection [240.6(A),
430.52(C)(1), and Table 430.248]:
12A × 2.50 = 30A
I know it bothers many in the electrical industry to see a 14 AWG
conductor protected by a 30A circuit breaker, but branch circuit
conductors are protected against overloads by the overload device,
which is sized between 115% and 125% of the motor nameplate
current rating [430.32]. The small conductor rule contained in Sec.
240.4(D), which limits 15A protection for 14 AWG, doesn’t apply
to motor circuit protection. See Sec. 240.4(D) and
Sec. 240.4(G). With that being said, there is an exception.
Exception No. 1: If the motor short circuit and ground fault
protective device values derived from Table 430.52 don’t
correspond with the standard overcurrent device ratings listed in
Sec. 240.6(A), the next higher overcurrent device rating can be used.
This next example illustrates this point.
What size conductor and inverse time circuit breaker are required for a 7½-hp, 230V, 3-phase motor with 75°C terminals?
Step 1: Determine the branch-circuit conductor [Table 310.15(B)(16), 430.22, and Table 430.250]:
22A × 1.25 = 27.50A
A quick check of Table 310.15(B)(16) reveals that a 10 AWG conductor is rated 35A at 75°C.
Step 2: Determine the branch-circuit protection [240.6(A), 430.52(C)(1) Exception No. 1, and Table 430.250]:
22A × 2.50 = 55A, next size up = 60A

First aid for heat stroke
Introductory heat stroke can be a killer. It disrupts the
body’s mechanisms (such as sweating) for relieving heat
stress. It must be treated quickly.
Meeting Starter Questions In what regular activities, both on
and off the job, are you apt to get overheated? What
precautions do you take to avoid heat exhaustion and
possibly heat stroke? Have you ever suffered, or witnessed someone suffer heat stroke? What was done, and what
happened?
Critical safety point’s different people may have different symptoms and sign of heat stroke. But common
symptoms and signs include: high body temperature, the absence of sweating combined with hot red or flushed-dry
skin, rapid pulse, difficulty breathing, strange behavior, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, disorientation, seizure
and coma.
Victims of heat stroke must receive immediate treatment to avoid permanent organ damage. If someone shows heat
stroke symptoms
1. First and foremost, cool the victim.
Get him or her to a shady area, remove clothing, apply cool or tepid water to the skin (for example you may
spray the victim with cool water from a hose), fan the victim to promote sweating and evaporation, and
place ice packs in the armpits and groin.
2. Monitor body temperature.
Use a thermometer to check the person’s temperature. Continue cooling efforts unit the body temperature
drop to 101-102 degrees.
3. Always notify emergency services (911) immediately.
Even if their arrival is delayed, they can give you further instructions for treating the victim.
The most important measure to prevent heat stroke are to avoid becoming dehydrated and to avoid vigorous
physical activities in hot and humid weather.
If you have to perform activities in hot weather, drink plenty of fluids (such as water and Gatorade), but avoid
alcohol, coffee and tea, which can cause dehydration.
Take frequent breaks to hydrate yourself, wear a hat and light colored light-weight loose-fitting clothes.

About Our Employee
Employee of the Month!!
Kyler Spaw has been employed by Masters
Electrical Services, LTD since January 2014 and
currently holds an apprentice license. He elected to
pursue a career in the electrical trade based on some
advice and guidance from his older brother, Josh.
Kyler will soon be attending IEC to extend his
knowledge in the electrical field and pursue plans to
receive his journeymen license.
Kyler Spaw
Kyler was born and raised in Seguin which he
will always call home! For the most part Kyler spends his
free time with family and close friends either fishing or
hunting. His favorite food would be home cooked steak
and potatoes. He enjoys listening to old country music
from the 80s and 90s and alternates with current Texas
country music. Kyler Spaw is an asset and we are
looking forward to his continued employment here at
