nation met up at the New Hampshire Motor
Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire
to display their vehicles alongside many
competitors.
From May 2nd to May 5th Waterloo Hybrid,
a motorsports team composed of students
from the University of Waterloo, competed in
the SAE Formula Hybrid competition.
While building their vehicle in early April,
members of the team reached out to IEWC
for 33 feet of EXRAD02-XLEOBS-5 cable to
incorporate in their vehicle design.
The competition is a design and engineering
challenge for undergraduate and graduate
students in which they must design, build and
compete in a single-seat racecar. The racecar
must be both innovative and sustainable in a
high-performance application.
Waterloo Hybrid chose IEWC’s cable because
it is specifically designed to handle the
higher voltage required by today’s hybrid
and electric powered vehicles.
Formula Hybrid bases their competition off
of the SAE collegiate program that consists
of over 412 chapters internationally. In each
chapter, students apply their engineering
course work to their competing vehicles.
At this competition, students across the
The team was proud to bring home several
awards including 4th place overall in the
Electric Vehicle category and 1st place
in Design. Additionally, they took home
trophies for the IEEE Engineering the Future
Award, the IEEE Excellence in EV Award, and
the Fiat Chrysler Auto Innovation Award.
