UNWELCOME
October 2009
Uniquely Manitoba - your assurance of a quality, made-in-Manitoba product!
Uniquely Manitoba is pleased and proud to present our new and
expanded showcase of “Prairie and Northern Originals.”
This year, we have added three new categories to our Product
Showcase - Galleries, Shows and Tours. These galleries and events
promote Manitoba artisans and we invite you to visit them often.
We have added more than 50 new artisans this year, bringing the
total to 180 individuals with 260 listings for your selection.
Please use this annual magazine and our Virtual Gift Show
www.uniquelymanitoba.ca to support and encourage the cultural
industries in our province – they make Manitoba special and a leader in places to live and do business.
Our website provides a greater selection of the works of each exhibitor and is updated frequently.
Visit it often to see “what’s new”.
Make your gift giving a meaningful experience for all special occasions – personal and business.
Our resources will help in your selection of “Gifts of Art” that last a life-time.
“See the artist’s statement about where they come from,
what inspires them and how they create their works.
Their stories and talents are fascinating and you can share them
along with the gift giving. Statements are found in the catalogue
and on the website.”
Uniquely Manitoba is a not-for-profit corporation, partially funded by government and the private
sector. We provide opportunities for artisans to develop their products, presentation materials and
marketing through personal consultations and workshops (both live and on CD’s).
Be a part of “bringing the world to Manitoba” - advertising and sponsorship opportunities are available.
Please contact us for more information. ([email protected] & (204) 784-8263)

A Message From The Minister of
Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade
On behalf of the citizens and Government of Manitoba, it is with great pleasure that
I include greetings in the 2009-2010 edition of Uniquely Manitoba.
Manitoba has a rich and diverse arts and culture community. Our province’s
tremendous talents are showcased beautifully in Uniquely Manitoba. With over 200
artisans, crafters and specialty food producers presented on its pages, this catalogue gives
Manitobans the opportunity to learn about and enjoy a multitude of local creations.
In addition to providing this talented community an occasion to share their skills,
Uniquely Manitoba goes further by assisting Manitoba’s artists and artisans with creating
business connections all over the province. Galleries, retailers, entrepreneurs, and patrons
alike will be impressed by the quality of work on display in the pages of this catalogue.
I would like to thank all those involved in the creation of Uniquely Manitoba. Once
again, you have done a terrific job of bringing the works of outstanding artists and artisans
to the attention of Manitobans. Best wishes to all for a successful and creative future!
Peter Bjornson

My creative spirit is attracted to intricate
patterns and details which characterize my
drawings and sculptures. When people see my
work I would like them to appreciate the fantasy
created by colour, line, shapes and patterns.
These are created in my abstract drawings, twodimensional sculptures, collages, spirit drawings
and soul collages.

Working with acrylics and mixed media
Katharine's method is largely intuitive - the
emphasis on process. Using nature as her
guiding light she strives to remove conscious
intention. Building a composition by following the
unpredictable dynamics of colour, space, gesture
- this allows her to move easily from expressionist
landscapes/cityscapes to total abstraction.

Béla’s love and respect for nature influence
realistic and abstract sculptures using soapstone,
alabaster, anhydrite, bone and antler. “To wrestle
an image from an ancient rock, to reveal a dream
in stone, this is a sculptor’s passion”. Béla’s work
can be seen at his private studio, Bear Creek,
Keepsakes and The Gallery at the Forks. Private
and corporate commissions welcome.

I am fascinated with the language of art.
Capturing the joys and contemplations of the
moment are important. I explore a variety of
cross media materials while fusing abstract
shapes, colour, line and texture to achieve the
mood, the light and the story of the moment.

Working with acrylics and mixed media
Katharine’s method is largely intuitive - the
emphasis on process. Using nature as her
guiding light she strives to remove conscious
intention. Building a composition by following the
unpredictable dynamics of colour, space, gesture
- this allows her to move easily from expressionist
landscapes/cityscapes to total abstraction.
