The 110,000-square-foot facility will facilitate the development of new food and beverage products to satisfy increasing demand for health, convenience, value and taste. It includes laboratories, a culinary demonstration kitchen, consumer insight and testing facilities and more. The center is also being called the cornerstone of Tate & Lyle’s growing network of research, food application and technical support laboratories. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20120620/ business/706209714/?pplogin=true# LACROSSE RETURNS TO THE SEARS CENTRE New Dog Park to Open On West Side Hoffman Starting in August, four legged friends will have a new green space to run free from their leashes, and will be named Freedom Run. The Hoffman Estates Park District approved the name Freedom Run at its Board meeting on Tuesday, June 26. Freedom Run is a four-acre off leash dog run, and will be dedicated to military service dogs and their owners who have served in our military conflicts throughout U.S. history. “There are so many military service dogs that deserve recognition that we decided to name the park for all of them,” said Mike Kies, director of facilities for the Hoffman Estates Park District. Plaques will be displayed along the walkway in the park that showcase dogs from each branch of the military. Freedom Run is a collaboration between three municipalities – the City of Elgin and the Streamwood and Hoffman Estates park districts. Residents of all three towns will have the chance to purchase memberships at Freedom Run at the resident rate with proof of residency and immunization records. Non-residents may also purchases memberships. All rules, regulations and fees are listed at heparks.org A dedication and grand opening ceremony is planned for Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. “We’re excited about this project,” said Dean Bostrom, executive director for the Hoffman Estates Park District. “Dog runs are a way to reach out to another segment of our community. The park gives people with a common interest a safe place where they can meet and enjoy the outdoors with their dogs.” Former Director of Operations for Chicago Shamrox (2006-2008) Ray Kincaid Jr., has teamed up with the Chicago Outlaws and US Indoor Lacrosse - Team USA to bring indoor lacrosse back to the Sears Centre Arena for a weekend exhibition event. The US Lacrosse Exhibition weekend is on Saturday, August 4th at 6:00 PM where Team USA will face-off against the Chicago Outlaws and Sunday, August 5th at 2:30 PM when Team USA will face-off against the All-Stars of the Midwest Indoor Lacrosse Association (MILA). Tickets only $12 each and seats are general admission; or you can purchase a weekend pass for $20. Any individual that purchases a weekend pass will be invited to participate in a clinic hosted by Tom Ryan, Head Coach of Team USA. For more information or to purchase tickets: In another show of community organizations working together, a local Eagle Scout is working on a project to provide agility equipment for the park. Christopher Umecki of Boy Scout Troop #461, presented his project proposal to the HEPD Board of Commissioners earlier this year. He designed the equipment, is currently seeking donations of materials and money to build it, and will work with his fellow scouts to build the equipment. He estimated the cost of the equipment at $600, and the Friends of the HE Parks Foundation has agreed to match the funds Umecki raises, up to $300. Go to www.SearsCentre.com or e-mail [email protected] The HE Park District is a National Gold Medal Award winner for Excellence in Parks & Recreation Management, the highest national honor in the public recreation category. For more information visit heparks.org or call 847-885-7500. 2 Anyone who is interested in donating material or money for the project should contact Peg Kusmierski at 847-310-3617 or [email protected]. Name: Mike Hanson Title: Owner Company Name: Affordable Healthcare Solutions Phone number: (847) 401-6049 How long in business: Eight years Born in: Chippewa Falls, WI Professional background: University of Minnesota” Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Master of Science Civil Engineering’ Purdue University: Master of Science Industrial Administration; Licensed insurance agent in Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana. I’d like you to know: We meet face-to-face with our clients. We offer health (both individual & group), life, disability and long term care insurance. We also offer Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage plans. Since we are brokers, we are able to offer plans by the top nationwide carriers so we can customize your coverage and be within your budget. Interesting facts: First, all health insurance plans have gaps” deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance and, for those of us that are selfemployed, loss of time (income). We offer a series of proprietary products that help to fill those gaps. Second, most people think of life insurance as “death” insurance. We have a life insurance based plan that offers an 8.43% tax free return (based on the last 30 years of actual data) to provide additional retirement income. Where else can you make that kind of return after tax? The best business advice I ever heard: The best business tip I have seen is the Map of Life. This is a detailed weekly schedule. It starts with my important family/personal activities. Then we schedule in business meetings, marketing time, appointment schedule, etc. I put mine on the refrigerator so the family knows what I will be doing. The best business advice I could give: Plan your work and work your plan. Get your “A” activities done first as they are most important. Then work on the “B” and finally, if there is any time left, “C” activities. When we concentrate on the most important things, the rest takes care of itself. My company’s mission statement: Our mission as Insphere Agents is to help people of all ages make informed decisions about products that protect their health and financial well-being, to be their trusted advisor not for just one transaction, but for their lifetime. The way I plan to participate in the Chamber is: I have been in the Chamber for seven years. I attend most networking events. I am a member of the Exchange. I am also serving my second term on the Board of Directors. I joined the Chamber because: I joined the Chamber as a way to help build my business and give back to the community. The next Chamber event I will be attending is: The Exchange Expo will be on Saturday, July 14th, 2012 from 11:00 am to 3:00 p.m. at the Arboretum. I will have a table there. Otherwise, look for me at the next networking event. Chamber committees I serve on: I chair the AM Business Connection committee & serve on the Membership Committee. Our primary purpose is to prepare the attendee to face the challenges of a new job search and to shorten the time of unemployment, underemployment or alternative-employment connection Interesting facts: We have seen over 50,000 people in a ten year period. We share with those on our job board 25- 30 job leads daily. We ask all of you if you would like to share any current job openings with your organization with our people. - you can post jobs FREE OF CHARGE at [email protected]. The best business advice I ever heard: You will never know who your next boss will be. Network-Network- Network- The best part of networking is that referrals are the best customer base to start or grow a business. The best business advice I could give: Attend as many different chamber meetings within the community as possible to let everyone know that you are an active business community member. Personal referrals are the best endorsement that your company can have. It validates that you have served others and will serve their needs successfully as well. My company’s mission statement: The mission of this Job Ministry is to provide a Christian community for job seekers. Christian beliefs and fellowship will govern the ministry’s meeting, actions and processes. These processes will include worship, practical job-finding methods, tools and classical networking with others to gain insight into individually targeted career pursuits and methods for overcoming the barriers inherent in the job market. The way I plan to participate in the Chamber is: I am there to help those in transition by letting our chamber members know that we have many outstanding candidates attending our meetings and available for employment. While giving them the tools to make them market-ready for that next job opportunity. I joined the Chamber because: To let everyone know what kind of work is being done to strengthen the fabric of our community. The work and outreach of this Ministry spans over 26 zip codes! The next Chamber event I will be attending is: I will be attending as many networking events as my schedule allows, to get to know everyone since I am a strong people person. Chamber committees I serve on: I will be looking at different initiatives were I can share my skills, make a difference and help to assure success. 11 Vol. 1 No 7~ July/August 2012 Newsletter Editor: Linda Dressler Hoffman Estates Chamber of OPPORTUNITY KNOCKING: Calendar of Upcoming Chamber Events July Mon., July 2 2200 W.
