Volume 36 No 2 Roncalli High School Fall / Winter 2014 Roncalli Honors Sister Adrianna Schouten Following our Thanksgiving liturgy, Sister Adrianna Schouten was presented with a stewardship award by John Stelzer, Roncalli President, and Ron Klestinski, former colleague and current Chairperson of the Board of Trustees on Roncalli. The award honors Sister’s lifelong devotion to the Church and Catholic education including her leadership during her eleven years at Roncalli. 1 Roncalli At-A-Glance 2 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE: MR. GREG JAHNKE Greg Jahnke will be inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 28, 2015. He has been coaching football for thirty-seven years. There have only been three head coaches in Roncalli history and all three are in the Hall of Fame. In order to be considered for nomination into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, a person must have served as a coach in Wisconsin for at least ten years. He must be nominated for induction by an existing member of the Coaches Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Committee in Madison selects about twenty nominees to be officially inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame. Congratulations Coach Jahnke! 3 ALUMNI NEWS Attention Alumni! Class of ‘90 Gregory Waegli received a 10 year Tom Dewane Class of ‘75 Patrick Bero and his wife Traci, celebrated thirty years of marriage on October 6, 2014. They reside in Pewaukee, WI. Class of ‘76 Nancy Riebe is in her 31st year as a teacher, 4th year as a substitute teacher in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. She has three dogs, Dusty, Skippy and Flower. Nancy continues her summer yard work job, known as Nancy’s Niche. Class of ‘83 Tom Handl was recently hired as the Supply Chain & Operations Manager for MDSolarSciences, a small but growing company that develops and distributes mineral sunscreen products. The company was founded by dermatologic oncologist Dr. Robert J. Friedman, a Clinical Professor at the NYU School of Medicine with a commitment to deliver efficacious products that protect the skin, help prevent photo aging and melanoma/skin cancer and repair the signs of sun induced aging. “Though we have fun in the sun, always remember to protect the skin!” Tom would love to hear from classmates anytime at [email protected]. Class of 86 William J. Weyenberg graduated from Denver School of Nursing. He is nursing at Centennial Peaks Hospital in Louisville, Colorado. Erin (Dewane) Marrs and her husband Chris were blessed with a son, Archie, on January 9, 2014. Archie joins his big brothers, Joey (6) and Danny (3). They reside in Pasadena, CA. Class of ‘98 Class of ‘69 service award for his work at Allied Barton Security at Phoenix Baptist Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. He has been in the security business since 1986. Class of ‘95 is the founder of Jaystreet Technologies in Manitowoc and has developed a patent-pending web application, AVENUE, designed to help health care and dental service providers nationwide solve the problems caused by last minute appointment cancellations. AVENUE is web-based, so there are no geographic restrictions to its use and is in place in practices in the Washington, D.C. metro area and in Wisconsin. He and his wife, Missy, along with their two daughters and two sons, are happy to raise their family in Manitowoc. Amy Fricke-Weigel has been selected for the honor of “Citizen of the Year” by the Manitowoc Fire Department for her “relentless spirit for volunteering”, which has had a positive effect on the city. Amy is a board member and treasurer of the Fire Department and helped to raise funds for their new training facility. She is also involved on many community boards and committees in Manitowoc. Class of ‘91 Theresa Moniot and Adalberto (Al) Olivares were united in marriage on October 18, 2014 at St. Bernadette Parish in Milwaukee. Class of ‘94 Marc Heidorf is Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at Mount Mary University in Milwaukee, WI. Katie (Kraemer) & Kevin Jacky ’96, welcomed a daughter to their family, Madelyn Rose, born July 11, 2014. She joins big brother, Max, and big sisters, Isabella and Ava. Derek Muench was promoted to Director of Parking & Transit of Shoreline Metro Transit in Sheboygan, WI where he resides. Class of 1999 Steve Thiele and his wife, Jacinda, welcomed a son, Evan Joseph, born December 8, 2014. Class of 2001 Dr. Alicia Birr and Kristopher Scott McCubbins were married in Portland, OR on June 14, 2014, making their home in Port Townsend, WA. Alicia is a Naturopathic Physician and has opened a satellite clinic in Two Rivers on the 2nd floor of Schroeder’s Dept. Store, seeing patients every 2 to 3 months. She can be reached at 360-385-5375. Lesley (Muench) Teigen, her husband, Sky and son Huck, have relocated to Hudson, WI. Lesley is employed as a cabinet maker at Joseph Otto Enterprises in Ham Lake, MN. Class of 2003 Amanda Schmitt married Andrew Schroeder on June 6, 2014. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Lakeshore Community Health Care in Sheboygan. The couple resides in Manitowoc. Mark & Amanda (Cherney ‘04) Matczynski are proud parents of a son, Samuel Adam. Andrew Adelman and his wife, Hillary, are the proud parents of a son, Daniel Eugene, born July 24, 2014. Class of 2004 Branigan Brennan and his wife 4 Katie, celebrated the birth of their son, Jaxson Dean, born July 2, 2014. Class of 2006 Stephanie Lambert received a Master of Public Health from the Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia on May 12, 2014. Class of 2007 Anna Jirik married Thompson on June 14, 2014. Ryan Angie Gust and Konnor DeBeauvernet were married on September 13, 2014 in Kingsland, Georgia. Angie’s husband is in the U.S. Navy and they will be stationed in Greece for one year. Holly Binversie recently became engaged to Steve Haensgen. They are planning a Fall 2015 wedding. Heather Roberts was married to Christopher Kettles in Clarks Mills, WI on July 19, 2014. Heather received a degree in Business Administration from St. Norbert College and met Chris while studying abroad at the University of Stirling, Scotland. They reside in Sheboygan where Heather works as a Commercial Lines Underwriter at ACUITY. engine crew on a number of forest fires throughout the rest of the summer. The largest was the 12,500 acre Snag Canyon fire near Ellensburg, WA. At its height, there were 12 helicopters, 3 DC-10 tanker jets and 15 engine crews. At the pinnacle, over 900 fire fighters and a support staff of over 200 personnel attacked the fire. Jacob lives in Kelso, WA. Class of 2009 Jessica Becker graduated from the University Minnesota Duluth on May 17, 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts, Biology. Class of 2010 Amanda Orth and Ryan Brandon were united in marriage on July 19, 2014. Cory Paquette earned a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude with a major in government from Lawrence University on June 15, 2014. Hillary Ahola graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science, Biomedical Sciences. Haley Albright graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science-Chemistry, Graduated with Distinction. Melanie Holzinger and Eric Pozorski (‘06) are engaged to be married. Their wedding is being planned for October 2015. Lauren Pritzl graduated from St. Norbert College with a Bachelor of Music degree. Class of 2008 Natalie Foster graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science-Retailing. Matt Gille and Matt Kiel took fourth place out of 87 teams at the 34th annual Spring Classic Muskie tournament held in Eagle River this summer. They caught a 41 inch muskie and a 40.75 inch muskie. Eric Schmitt is a manufacturing engineer and works as a Regional Applications Manager at Fraisa USA, Inc. He recently moved from Minneapolis to Sheboygan. Jacob Harvey earned his “Red Card” in July, proving he has the skill set necessary to safely fight wild fires. Elissa Halla graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science-Biology. Katie Binversie graduated from Marian University in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She is working at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. 5 Cassie Johnston graduated in May from UW-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Summa Cum Laude). She is currently employed at Manitowoc Ice in the Marketing Department. Class of 2011 Ben Stelzer earned preseason recognition and was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason player of the year. He also earned the GLIAC North Division Player of the Week for a second time this season. He was one of nine student-athletes that were named to the NABC Honor Court for the 2013-14 season. The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team also received the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award. The National Association of Basketball Coaches Committee on Academics recognizes outstanding academic achievements by a team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2013-14 season. Justin Jagodinsky earned an athletic letter for outstanding participation on the Coe College football team during the 2013-14 academic year. He is a second year letter winner in football and was named to the Academic AllIowa Conference team. Olivia Krejcarek was one of this year’s recipients of the Dramm Corporation Scholarship. She is attending the College of St. Scholastica. Class of 2012 Heath Hermans, an Air Force Airman, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base, San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, TX. He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, basic warfare principles and skills. Kevin Sievert was recently accepted into the Open Jar Institute in New York City on a partial scholarship. Open Jar is a national weeklong summer intensive program that trains performers for the world of professional theater, giving them the opportunity to work closely with Broadway performers, directors and choreographers. Andrew Kasserman recently completed a semester of study in Kyoto, Japan. He is a junior at MacAlaster College in St. Paul, MN and is majoring in Japanese and Art History. named Setter of the Year by the WCC Eastern division. Class of 2014 Alex Pond was awarded the honor of Eagle Scout at an Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony that was held on July 19, 2014. Class of 2013 Caleb Mrozinsky is an officer with the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at UW-Manitowoc. This honor society provides members with opportunities for leadership, fellowship and service as well as an intellectual climate for continued academic excellence. Stephen Heili is an officer with the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at UW-Manitowoc. Local members are involved in fund-raising efforts for scholarships, highway cleanup and aid to local charities, but academic excellence is the primary hallmark. Kaley McDonnell was recently inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at UW-Manitowoc. To be considered for membership, a student must pass stringent academic requirements, be of good moral character and possess recognized qualities of citizenship. She also received first team all conference recognition on the women’s volleyball team and was Attention Alumni!
