Don’t Be Afraid!
Everyday we seem to be bombarded with news and events which challenge our faith. Greed has led the world economy into
shambles, fighting continues in pockets around the globe, human life is reduced to chattel as scientific progress seeks to direct
the needle of our moral compass. In our own city we see murder and violence, disrespect and indifference. The newspapers
seem obsessed with the sad reality we face within our diocese with the closing of church buildings and slightly less with the
plight of those left behind. All of these items can contribute to an overwhelming malaise and disgust with religion. In fact, the
papers reported this very week that a recent survey has found more and more people affiliating themselves with ‘no religion.’
Call it what you will: the battle between good and evil, between the culture of life and the culture of death, between Jesus
and Satan. This is the condition in which we find ourselves in a world full of freedoms which often relinquish responsibility, but
which at the same time provide endless possibilities to those who choose to fight on the side of goodness. It is, without question, an ongoing battle, and one in which the strongest soldiers will not only survive, but win. But, to be a survivor is like being
a lukewarm anything. Jesus let us know that anyone who is lukewarm in his or her commitment to Him should be spit out.
How many times is it necessary for His words to echo through our heads: DON’T BE AFRAID! DON’T BE AFRAID! DON’T
BE AFRAID!???
So, this weekend we are greeted with what some deem frightening news regarding our communities of faith. Are you frightened? If we are told that we must combine with other faith communities, will you be frightened? If those communities are of
different national backgrounds will you be frightened? If we suddenly seem more universal and less provincial in our outreach
will you be frightened? If we look, sound and behave more like Catholics will you be frightened? If we bring in people who
have just lost their old faith communities, even asked to provide them with some help with transportation, will you be frightened? When those who have lost so much come and look to us for acceptance will you be frightened? And if we are told we
also must close or change our identity will we accept this plan in humility and let the Holy Spirit help us and guide us in our
pain? Because of our faith in Jesus, I think we will manage.
Our role, if we are granted the honor to remain a functioning, vibrant parish within this city, will be as first class soldiers
with a definite battle plan in mind: to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, comfort the sick and dying... and
everything else Jesus expects of us. We will greet everyone with living water, we will share with everyone the treasure of our
faith and share with them the body and blood of Christ. These things we share are not our sole possession, but belong to any
and all baptized Catholics. We all share in the Cross with equal rights as we share in the hope of our resurrection. There is nothing of which to be afraid!

PASTORAL MESSAGE
DO WE REALLY BELIEVE?
When we were children our
parents taught us to recite and
memorize the basic prayers rooted
in our Catholic Faith, namely, The
Our Father, The Hail Mary, and
The Glory Be. Connected with
these prayers was The Profession of
Faith or as it is known, The Nicene
Creed. This Creed is a summary of
all our basic truths embedded in our
Catholic Faith, compiled at the
Council of Nice in 326—hence the name, Nicene.
The Creed contains four sections of truth: our belief in God
the Father, in God the Son, in God the Holy Spirit, and in the
Catholic Church.
We believe that God created all things visible and invisible;
that God provides, sustains all creation. To God we owe our
gratitude for the gift of all life—which we must respect in all its
stages of formation, development and growth. We must respect
all environment. We believe in God and we believe God. I am
puzzled when people tell me they no longer go to church or
share the Catholic Faith, and yet they say they believe in God.
These people reject when God clearly and loudly announces at
the Baptism of Jesus and at the Transfiguration of Jesus: “This
is my Beloved Son. Listen to Him!” We cannot love the Father
when we reject the words, deeds and teachings of Jesus, His
Son. It is not enough to say, “I just talk to God’. I don’t bother
with church or bible. Jesus did everything that His Father
commanded him to do.
We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son. Jesus is
the one who said to Peter, “You are Peter, and upon this rock I
will build my Church, the community of faithful people, of
which I am the Head and they are the Body. This is the Jesus
we receive in Holy Communion; the same Christ whose Body
and Blood we offer to the Father at every Mass. The same
Christ who invites us to accept and live His Gospel message;
the same Christ who commands us to love one another as He
loves us; the same Christ who reveals His Father’s love to all
nations. The same Christ in whose name we were baptized and
through whose death and resurrection we have been saved. “No
one comes to the Father except through me!”
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, the Giver of
Life. We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit, hence, respect for
the life and welfare of the human body, We all receive the Holy
Spirit in Baptism and Confirmation so as to have strength and
perseverance in living out our Catholic Faith.
We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church,
established by Jesus and handed down to us through the
Apostles. The Church is only as faithful and strong as each of
its members. To ignore the teachings of the Church; to abandon
the Church through apathy, to disregard its social teachings, to
act contrary to the Church on issues of life and death—is to
betray one’s loyalty to Christ.
The Nicene Creed—a Treasure of the Church almost since
the beginning—does not offer us an options as to what part or
parts of it we may choose to believe and observe. There’s only
one option: to accept, cherish, live and share this precious gift
of God with others and through it attain eternal salvation.

Ukryta biała suknia
„Kochamy wciąż za mało i stale za późno” (ks. Jan
Twardowski).
Nie mów kobiecie, że ją kochasz, jeśli choć raz nie ujrzałeś
w niej księżniczkę, czyli nie pozwoliłeś, nie pomogłeś jej się w
niej objawić, bo może się okazać, że żyjąc z nią, nie miałeś
pojęcia, kim ona jest i ile znaczy…

Kamę poznał na jakimś koncercie rockowym. Była bardzo
zgrabna, naturalna i swobodna, więc odpowiadała mu, bo nie
lubił tych wszystkich „podchodów”, dziewczęcej kokieterii,
rozbuchanej uczuciowości. Uważał to za relikty zmierzłych epok,
czyniących z kobiet jakieś sentymentalne efemerydy. Wyglądało
na to, że ona myśli tak samo i że mogą stworzyć związek bez tych
tradycyjnych i lirycznych otoczek. Zgadzała się z jego rzeczowym
podejściem do małżeństwa, erotyki, rodzicielstwa, może i
dlatego, że zawsze był pewny siebie i nie znosił sprzeciwu. Ale on
tego w sobie nie widział. Zdumiała go więc jej prośba przed
ślubem, że chciałaby mieć białą suknię…
Nie pojmował, po co, skoro zaplanował ślub w
nowoczesnym stylu, w zwyczajnych ubiorach, ze zwyczajnym
przyjęciem, bez tej całej maskarady. Pierwszy raz pokłócili się
właśnie o to. Ale przeforsował swoją racje i ona była ubrana w
zwyczajną niebieską sukienkę, bez welonów, trenów, koronek,
których nie znosił. A potem było zwyczajne życie, zwyczajne
dzieci, zwyczajne święta, wczasy… I nawet do głowy mu nie
przyszło, że Kamie mogło to się nie podobać. Nie zwykł zresztą
pytać, bo uważał się za dobrego męża i ojca.
Tak przeżyli ze sobą 16 lat. Trudno mu było pogodzić się z
nagłą chorobą żonatego całkiem sobie w życie nie wkalkulował.
Bagatelizował sprawę, bo uważał, że ona musi wyjść z tego jak
najszybciej. Stało się jednak inaczej i któregoś dnia, wracając z
podróży służbowej, mógł już tylko pożegnać zimne ciało żony.
Patrząc na zapłakaną trójkę dzieci, pierwszy raz poczuł piekące
łzy, ale szybko ukrył je przed nimi. Kiedy zjawiła się siostra żony,
zaczęli szukać sukni, w której można byłoby ją pochować. I
wtedy w jednej z głębokich szuflad odkrył starannie
zapakowaną… białą ślubną suknię. Aż usiadł z wrażenia. Kiedy
zapytał się o nią dzieci, one opowiedziały nieśmiało, że kiedy on
wyjeżdżał na dłużej, ona czasem wkładała tę suknię, którą razem
z matką kupiły przed ich ślubem. I zawsze zdejmując ją,
płakała… Nie wytrzymał - płacz wybuchnął w nim sam. Nawet
go nie krył, nie powstrzymywał. Gdy się uspokoił, poczuł, że
jakby przejrzał na oczy. Dotąd żył w jakiejś zaćmie. I wtedy
dojmującym, jedynym pragnieniem było: pójść z nią do ślubu
jeszcze raz…

Ktoś powiedział, że nie patrzymy oczami, tylko przez oczy, to
co sobie upatrzyliśmy, i starannie przegapiamy, czego widzieć
nie chcemy. I zdarza się ludziom, którzy sądzą, że kochają
drugiego człowieka, że go znają, że on już niczym ich zaskoczyć
nie może. Jakiś dziwny rodzaj „ślepoty funkcjonalnej”...
Dopiero czasem łzy… Ale nie te, jakie czasem człowiek
wylewa nad samym sobą, wciąż tylko sobą zajęty i
ograniczony… Tylko łzy żalu, że już za późno, że już nie można
powtórzyć ślubu, miłości, życia… Że już nawet przeprosić niema
jak... Ale i tak takie łzy są lepsze od ich braku w zaślepionym
sercu…

ST. STAN’S HISTORICAL FACT

Father Benedict Rosinski, a Diocesan priest, succeeded
Father Anton Kolaszewski as Pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish in
1892. He served as Pastor until 1905. He was the last Diocesan
Pastor before the arrival of the Franciscans in 1905. Increasing
numbers of Polish immigrants continued to arrive in Cleveland.
Father Rosinski devoted himself to the spiritual welfare of his
Parishioners. He officiated at 5,894 baptisms, 918 marriages,
and 2072 burials of which 1,660 were children. Father Rosinski
also crossed paths with the assassin of President William
McKinley, Leon Czogolsz, who lived near the church. From an
article in the Chicago Sunday Tribune of September 8, 1901,
Father Rosinski states, “I asked Czogolsz for a contribution to
the church. He refused to give. I asked him why he would not
contribute and he said he was an anarchist… He told me he had
no religion and that he did not wish to help the church. He said
anarchy was his religion. I tried to argue with him and drive the
anarchistic principles out of his head but it was to no purpose. I
believe he was mentally imbalanced.”

PASTORAL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
The annual election for new Parish Pastoral Council members will
take place the weekend of May 9-10. It’s not too early to begin
prayerfully considering if you or someone you know would be able
to serve the parish on this council. To be eligible for membership,
you must be at least 18 years of age, be a registered parishioner for
at least two years at the time of nomination, and be a parishioner in
good standing. Evening meetings are held the third Tuesday of
each month from September through June. Nomination forms will
be available at the church entrances March 21 through April 5.
Completed forms may be placed in the collection basket or turned
in to one of the priests or council members. If you have any

Coroczne wybory do Rady Parafialnej odbędą się w dniach 9 10 maja br. Jednak nie jest za wcześnie już teraz zastanowić się

składania nominacji rozpoczyna się kilka tygodni przed
wyborami. Aby zostać członkiem Rady Parafialnej, należy:
- mieć ukończone 18 lat
- być zarejestrowanym w parafii co najmniej przez ostatnie dwa lata
- cieszyć się dobrą opinią.
Wieczorne spotkania Rady odbywają się w każdy trzeci wtorek
miesiąca od września do czerwca. Formularze wyborcze będą
dostępne przy wejściach do kościoła od 21 marca do 5 kwietnia
br. Wypełnione formularze mogą być składane w koszykach na
pieniądze lub bezpośrednio wręczone dotychczasowym

It only took a few days, a big machine and a few good men
to make a pile of rubble from the old convent. The activity had
our grade school and the high school kids fascinated—some
teachers even gave the kids “window time” Nothing but
memories left!
