Newsletter Note
My daughter is having surgery this month and we will be in Chicago for a couple of
weeks for that. So, the July Newsletter may be a little late. Thank you in advance for
your prayers and patience. ~ Jean W.
Schedules
Both the June and July schedules for ushers, greeters and nursery are included this
month. Please check your calendars to make sure you are available on your Sundays.
If you do any switching please let Dee know for the bulletin.
Food Pantry Collection
Sunday June 1 is our monthly food pantry collection for area food pantries. This month
we are collecting for Lifeline in Oregon. They are in need of Jello, peanut butter, jelly,
canned vegetables, canned soup, bisquick, syrup, fruit juice and small bars of soap.
Please place monetary or food donations in the grocery carts in the church foyer.
Grill-&-Chill
Youth Group summer Grill-&-Chills will meet at various locations on Wednesday
evenings throughout the summer. This is a fun and exciting opportunity to grow, so
please invite your teenage friends. Host homes are also needed. If you would like to
host for a week please sign up on the stand in the Narthex. All we need is your yard
and a simple dinner (think hot dogs and chips). Alex and Susan will take care of the
rest. See Alex Woodworth or Susan Wolf for more information.
Ladies Aid
The Ladies Aid Missionary Society meets the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00
P.M. at the church. There is a Bible Study, devotions, refreshments and each member
brings a scripture verse for “roll call” relating to a certain topic. Ladies Aid takes an
offering to support various ministries throughout the community, denomination and the
world. They also serve luncheons when requested by family members at the time of
funerals in the church. Do you have a couple hours to give one afternoon a month?
Age doesn’t matter; this ministry is open to all women of the church. This month’s
meeting is June 4. Lorna Snapp will lead the devotions. Norma Flanagan is the
hostess. The Bible Study is Lesson 16 - Proverbs and Psalms Book - Psalm 45 &
Proverbs 31 and roll call will be a Scripture verse on “Character”
Work Camp
Work Camp will again be visiting Mary House near Oxford Wisconsin (142
miles from Byron) this year from June 9-13. Come join us for the week or
for whatever days you are able. The federal prison at Oxford, Wisconsin
houses over 1000 men. Located in a rural farming area, the prison in not
accessible by public transportation, nor is it within walking distance of
hotels. Many families have no money for restaurants or hotels. For some,
the remoteness means visits only once a year. Since opening their doors in the fall of
1989, Mary house has served families visiting inmates. They've provided transportation,
meals, overnight lodging and, perhaps most important, a family atmosphere of respect
and fellowship. Mary House is staffed completely by volunteers. All gifts go directly to
the service work of the house.
3
Naomi Ruth
Naomi Ruth is a women’s Bible study that meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month
(except December & January) at 6:30 P.M. Each member takes turns leading the Bible
Study. This group is open to all women of the church. Are you looking for a Ladies
Bible Study? Naomi Ruth will be going out for lunch or supper on June 17. The time
and location are to be determined.
Christian Fellowshipers
Christian Fellowshipers is a time for anyone over the age of fifty to get together for
Christian fellowship and fun. They meet the 3rd Thursday of every month at noon for a
potluck meal. Each month a designated host and/or hostess plan and serve the event.
There is scripture reading and prayer. Outings to local restaurants or other activities are
scheduled. A free will offering is taken for missions. If you are fifty or over you are
invited to the meeting on June 19 at noon; please bring a dish to pass. The Lohmans
and Chermaks are hosting this month.
VBS
We would like to try something new for Vacation Bible School this
year BUT we need your help! We plan to have VBS AT Rose
Meadows Park in Byron the mornings of June 23-27. We know there
are so many children nowadays who haven't even been introduced to
Jesus so what better way than to meet them on their turf! However,
for such an undertaking to be successful we will need "bodies" to help
each day! We are looking for volunteers who love building
relationships with children, teaching short lessons, playing games,
and/or fixing lunches to be served at the end of each morning. Could you step up? If
so, contact Ceri at (815)742-5736. Jesus said, "Go and make disciples of all nations!"
The annual church picnic will be held at King's Camp (9300
Lindenwood Road in Chana) on June 29. The worship
service will begin at 10:30 A.M. This will be followed by a
potluck meal. Bring your own table service and a dish or two
to pass. You might also want to bring your own lawn chairs. Come and enjoy God's
great outdoors with your church family. Guests are always welcome. In case of rain,
the worship service will be at the church and the picnic in the Family Life Center. There
will also be an early worship service at the church at 9:00 A.M. for those who cannot
make it to King's Camp. There will be no Sunday School on this day.
The Stewardship/Property Council is looking for families or individuals to sign up on a
weekly basis to mow the church lawn. There is a sign-up sheet for mowing on the stand
in the Narthex. Please sign up now to make sure you get the dates you want. See Dale
Flanagan for more information or call him at (815) 677-7880.

Children in Worship
There is no Children in Worship at this time. There are bags available for our youngest
children with simple Bible activities and pictures and colored pencils to occupy them
during the worship service. The bags are hanging outside the sanctuary (under the
mailboxes by the water fountain) with the children’s' names on them. We will have a
few marked for visitors as well. If you would like your child to stay in worship with you,
you may pick up your child's bag before entering for worship. After worship, please
return the bag. We will try to keep the bags stocked! Enjoy!

The church’s role isn’t only to “take Christ
to the world,” thus fulfilling Jesus’ Great
Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, but to
recognize Christ already at work in the
world and help others see him, too. God
is visible through his handiwork, but
easily seen? Not always. So the church is
called to direct the world’s gaze past
mere “human decency” or “good fortune”
to God as the ultimate Source of
goodness.
and Anniversaries!!!!
Christ doesn’t hole up in church buildings
until church members “take him” to the
world; he works in the world, through
churched and unchurched alike. But the
church is key to helping people recognize
him.

When someone professes atheism but
also awe at nature, we might gently share
our conviction that God designed such
beauty. When medical care yields a cure,
we can thank Jesus openly for healing.
When community volunteers deliver toys
to foster children; when counselors help
families communicate; when neighbors
welcome newcomers … there is Jesus.
