On September 26, local families
gathered at MiraCosta’s Community
Learning Center for the conclusion
of the first annual “Continued
Education’s Reading Festival.”
The festival was developed by
Roxanne Morgan and Suzanne
Sproul who, over the past year,
pooled their resources to make the
event possible.
Beginning on September 24,
the festival lasted three days and
included activities to help promote
literacy, such as reading seminars,
poetry recitals, live book readings
and signings. The event concluded
with a live reading and signing of
the children’s book “Stellaluna” by
its author Janell Cannon.
The author of several children’s
books including “Verde” and “Crick
Wing,” Cannon openly expressed her
enthusiasm toward teaching kids to

enjoy books and encouraging families
to read together. “[It’s] brilliant and
essential,” said Cannon. “Society
benefits when people become literate.
It is important fight ignorance.”
Cannon grew up in a family where
creativity, the arts and literacy were
strongly encouraged.
Not having any children of her own,
she focuses her attention on writing
for children in hopes that they will
pick up her love, not just for literacy,
but for animals as well. She draws the
inspiration for her books from human
interactions with animals. “There is a
story in everything, the trick is to filter
it all out,” said Cannon. She added
that in order to get as accurate a story
as possible, she will go to the zoo and
research the animals.
One goal she admitted to having
in her writing was to change people’s
perspective on certain animals, what
she calls the “unpopular animals.”
To add to the educational value of her
books, she includes an index in each
volume which features true facts about
the animal characters in each story.
Though she said she has attempted
to write pieces in other genres, she
has never considered getting them
published. She said she would rather
focus on entertaining because she
enjoys the freedom in her work and
also in the fact that she does not have
her own children.
“In quoting the great Doctor Seus,”
Cannon says, “You have ‘em, I’ll
amuse ‘em.”
Proposal seeks higher parking and Health Services fees

A proposal will go before the Board
of Trustees seeking to increase the
parking permit fee and Health Services
fee to cover the costs of renovations
and Health Services staff additions.
The fee increase is scheduled to go into
effect for the spring 2008 semester.
The current parking permit fee is
$35, and if the proposal were to be
accepted by the Board, it would rise
five dollars to $40 per semester. The
Health Services fee will increase by
two dollars to $16 per semester. The
fee increases would go to pay for
parking lot renovations, as well as
provide for a full-time nurse practioner
or physician at the San Elijo campus.

season awards the nosebleeds

The nearing of the playoffs calls
for a different type of rundown in
this week’s edition. Unfortunately,
deadlines being what they are,
the playoffs were not ultimately
determined until after midnight last
night. So in keeping in the tradition of
analysts everywhere, let’s take a look
back at the season and pick our big
winners, and our big losers.
AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez 3B,
Yankees. There is no debate. Alex
Rodriguez is going to win the American
League MVP in a landslide. Maybe
now the Bronx fans will forget about
his 2 hits in 15 at bats against the
Tigers in last year’s playoffs. Fans
may be slightly miffed though if he
runs off and buys the Cubs.
NL MVP: Matt Holliday OF,
Rockies. There will be some argument
as to who should have won the NL
MVP. Prince Fielder put up a monster
season, but failed to keep the young
Brewers on top of the Cubs in the NL
Central. Holliday is amidst the top
five players in every major offensive
category. Not to mention, he hit half
of his home runs with men on base,
and batted nearly .300 away from the
thin air of Coors Field.
AL Cy Young: Josh Beckett, Red
Sox. Cases could be made for the likes
of C.C. Sabathia and John Lackey,
who each launched their respective
teams into the playoffs. Unfortunately
for them, Josh Beckett anchored a Red
Sox pitching staff that was shaky down
the stretch. Did I mention that he’s 4-2
this season against the rest of the AL
Playoff teams?
NL Cy Young: Jake Peavy, Padres.
I know what you are thinking. But
before you blame this on a personal
bias, look at the stat sheets. Fact
of the matter is, Jake has ostensibly

has fooled a team into paying him big
bucks by making them believe talent
is synonymous with ability. Wrong!
He’s walking with over $14 million
this season, with only 10 home runs
and a .260 average to show for it. Oh
and guess what, he’s turning 32 this
winter.
NL Least Valuable Player: Barry
Zito LHP, Giants. Sure there are
worse players in the league, but none
of them signed the biggest contract
given to a pitcher…ever. The only
pitching categories in which you’ll
find Zito’s name in the top 10 are
losses (9th), and walks (5th). Yikes.
World Series Prediction: NY
Yankees over Arizona Diamondbacks
in five games.
In a year where Tiger Woods is the
best golfer, the Patriots will win the
Superbowl, and USC is the number
one football team in the nation, the
Yankees will follow suit with the
other sports powerhouses and claim
the World Series. Lucky for the Bronx
Bombers, Mike Mussina will not have
to be a part of the playoff pitching
rotation. Between Chien-Ming Wang
and playoff geezers Andy Pettitte and
Roger Clemens, baseball’s hottest
team since the All-Star break should
survive the AL gauntlet and capture
the fall classic. Joe Torre will remain
in place as the Yank’s skipper, and
New Yawkahs will find a reason to
boo Alex Rodriguez.

Chargers 1 st Quarter Report: I
know this city. I know its fans. I’m
one of them. We are an optimistic
bunch when it comes to our Chargers,
even if that means having faith where
there is little room for it. We have
seen this team go from 12 losses to
12 wins in a single bound. We have
seen a Pro-Bowl quarterback depart
for a bigger contract, only to be
replaced by a bigger, younger ProBowl quarterback. We have seen the
core of our roster sign long contract
extensions in hopes of a strong future.
Yet with the supposed continuity
implied by the Chargers brass this offseason, the stability of the franchise is
in question.
We all thought A.J. Smith was a
genius since the draft-day trade

that Norv Turner is a great offensive
coordinator, and outstanding with
quarterbacks, but that is his ceiling.

blame for the sum of the Charger’s
woes. Key personnel decisions were
made this off-season, and the team has
suffered because of it. The leadership
and consistency of Donnie Edwards
are sorely missed in a defense that

talented football team in the NFL, is
about to find themselves in the toughluck company of the league’s top
underachievers.
This coming Sunday, the Chargers
face no easy task in Denver against
the Broncos. The Denver cornerbacks
have a distinct advantage over our
young receivers. Even the very good
Charger teams struggle against the
Broncos in Denver. This one may
not be much different. This game will
cause a momentum swing in the AFC

O.J.’s juice is

L
ost somewhere between
the blurred lines of racial
injustice, the jury of the
O.J. Simpson trial made
the mistake of a decade. As if the
evidence was not concrete, as if there
could have been a shadow of a doubt.
The bloody glove, the black skullcap,
the taped phone argument, and that
lethargic car chase that catapulted the
white Bronco into a league with James
Bond’s Aston Martin. We suffered
through every painstaking minute
of Marcia Clark’s prosecution, and
every soul-inspiring word of Johnny
Cochran’s defense. It was a perfectly
choreographed tango. The lines could
not have been scripted any better.
The result of the trial was an ending
fitting of a Hollywood blockbuster.
The Goldman family stood stunned,
and with a heavy heart, watched their
son’s assailant walk free. Homes,
businesses and schools all listened
in as the jury foreman announced the
verdict after a year and a half of trial.
From there, the racial division was
only just beginning.
It was a case that had no place in the
racism argument. But there it stood,
widening the gap between black and
white.
After over a decade of simmering
time, O.J., who still has not found
“the real killer” like he promised us,
decided he was going to convince the
world of his innocence by writing If
I Did It. The book catalogued O.J.’s
personal thoughts on how he would
have approached the pre-meditated
murder of his ex-wife and her lover,
if he had done it. The book was
withdrawn by the publisher, only later
to be released by the Goldman family
under the title If I Did It: Confessions
of a Killer. It was quite a redeeming
effort on O.J.’s part.
As if the circus needed a fourth
ring, the juice has brought himself
right back to the tabloids. This time
around, O.J. found himself dead
center in an altercation in Las Vegas
involving a man who purchased some
of his memorabilia. Simpson had his
bodyguards hold the man at gunpoint
while he unleashed an expletive laced
tirade on the “merchandise thief.”
Simpson is now facing charges of
robbery using a deadly weapon, as
well as conspiracy to commit robbery,
burglary with a deadly weapon,
two counts of assault with a deadly
weapon, and coercion. I guess murder
one charges were just child’s play.
A decade older, and clearly
weathered by the debris of time,
Simpson exited the court-house on
bail, his future resting in jeopardy.
This trial may be speedy, but it will
not be fair. The verdict was dictated
as soon as the victim phoned police.
To find a jury that is not tainted by the
1994 trial is an impossible chore. This
is payback. This time O.J., facing a

sour
life-sentence without Johnny Cochran
to pancake the prosecution by his side,
should be worried.
Will racism play a role in the case?
There is no reason to believe that it
will not. Racism arguments tiptoe
their way into every off the field issue
involving a black athlete. Michael
Vick was a prime example. The ESPN
network recently held a live forum
debate between sports analysts with
audience questioning. The lines were
drawn in black and white, without a
touch of gray. Racism dominated the
arguments, in a place where it had
no business being. Vick proponents
argue that this is their culture, and
that upbringing had something to do
with Vick killing animals. Maybe if
the animals killed themselves after a
lifetime of exposure to overbearing
prejudice, and they realized they just
could not go on in a world where such
prejudice existed…maybe then could
we blame it on racism. Unfortunately,
the autopsies did not yield those
results.
I do not necessarily believe in the
race card. To trivialize the experiences
of a culture by identifying them as
nothing more than a defense technique,
an ace up the sleeve, is narrow-sighted.
That is not to say, however, that
using race as an argument, or as an
undertone for the jury to read into,
should exonerate Simpson.
It is pretty evident that O.J. will be
convicted of at least a few of these
crimes. The audio tapes are evidence
enough to believe O.J. was up to no
good. Though I think the people as
a collection would rather watch O.J.
churn out some good one-liners, use
too many of our resources, walk
away a free man, and vow to spend
the rest of his life chasing “the real
merchandise thief.” Mainstream
America could really take a bite out
of that ending.
We used to love watching Simpson’s
feet pitter-patter down the field as he
shed tackles and made cutbacks.
Though nobody will admit it, a lot
of us really liked the Naked Gun
movies. In all reality though, his
accomplishments will not define his
legend. What was once a model of
greatness is now superceded by a
model of stupidity and violence. A
legend turned convict over the suit he
wore in his original acquittal. Ebony
may not meet ivory on this issue, but
Karma has certainly met irony.

Today is the beginning of an era
of free thought and free exchange
of ideas, an era where the inherent
stupidity of Humanity falls victim
to my web and I serve it up to you,
my loyal Reader.
As I promised you, Gentle Reader,
I will now turn my razor sharp eye
on Big Biz and perform a bit of a
vivisection to illustrate just how
deep the tendrils of greed and selfabsorption have penetrated. Do not
fret, my friends, this will only hurt
a little.
More than 800 hundred years ago,
there was a piss ant occurrence called
the Industrial Revolution where our
bestial ancestors discovered how to
mass-produce goods. Now, suffice
it to say, we are dependent upon
those break downs of technology
(how dare anyone refer to such an
event as an “Industrial Revolution”
as a breakthrough!), yet, it would do
us well, as I’m sure you will agree,
to examine how we have become
leeches of machinery and the progeny
of Greed.
As the years wore on, technology
developed at the rate of rabbit
reproduction. People were able
to ravage stores for goods deemed
important, and the shelves would be
replenished before one of the consumer
minions could voice the faintest hum
of complaint. Of course, now with
the invention of the Replicant, we no
longer have to leave the comfort of
our cells to be wired into the consumer
mentality.
Seriously folks, is this what we
want? Is instant gratification the Light,
the Life, and the Way? Whatever
happened to the idea of working for
a living instead of being for a living?
You are pathetic! And because of
that bane of humanity from the past,
the Industrial Revolution, we have
become nothing more than brain-dead
consumers of crap we don’t want or
need. And along the way, we allowed
these tyrants of industry to monitor
everything we did.
Back in the late twentieth and in to
the following centuries, stores started
to offer espionage gizmos called
“Club Cards.” It sounds as though the
possessor of one of these cards bought
entry into an elite group, but everyone
had them, and they were given away for
free. People were enticed by “savings”
and “bonus buys” by swiping the
card. Of course, no one thought to
ask about why did one have to have a
card, with personal information on file,
to get the discount instead of already
offering the goods at the lower prices.
No one asked because the idea of
saving money reigned superior to the
need to maintain privacy. It pain me
to say that these ‘Club Cards” would
be the foundation for the Identichips
that were implanted in everyone
from 2013 until the Great Purge of
2315. The governments monitored
their “citizens” by evaluating their
purchases with the cards, and when the
Chips became an (il)legal requirement
to be a citizen, everyone became a
target for eavesdropping. Yet Friends,
it makes me laugh, looking back,
that for these people to have their
precious “rights,” they had to have an
Identichip implanted. Oh, how I love
Catch-22s.
Now, Gentle Reader, we don’t have
to worry about the invasion of out
homes. We are above the base nature
of our ancestors. We have conquered
the voyeuristic need that is inherent
in all lesser species and forms of life.
We have evolved.
Therefore, as I leave you today
Friends, I’d like you to think about
what we have, and where we have
come from. Think about what life
would have been like in the early
twenty-first century, with crime,
terrorism, and most importantly,
unadulterated greed assaulting every
sense of every minute of every our of
every day for years well beyond the
span of a lifetime. Thank Bog for
leading us away from temptation and
delivering us from Evil.

There’s a
video game
that’s sweeping
the nation. Halo is
a first person shooter
video game that has
sold over 5 million
copies world wide. The
only video game that has
ever sold more copies is its
sequel, Halo 2, which has
sold over 8 million copies.
The game was created by
Bungie Studios, now the king
of video game studios. Halo set
a new standard for action games,
and raised the bar for the expectations
from Xbox games in general.
Halo is a science fiction game
that takes place on a mysterious
planet referred to as “Halo.” Before
the game's actual story begins, the
Covenant, a collection of alien species
determined to destroy the human
race, launch an attack on the base of
human military production, Reach,
and destroy it. Only a single starship,
the Pillar of Autumn, survives the
Covenant onslaught carrying one of
the last known Spartan-II soldiers.
As the game proceeds, the Pillar of
Autumn initiates a random jump
to slip-space, in hopes to lead the
Covenant away from Earth. Following
coordinates chosen by the on board
computer named Cortana, the Autumn
discovers Halo on accident. After a
crash landing, the player is thrown
into role of the Master Chief (who is
the Spartan-II super-soldier) and is
forced to descend to the ring's surface
to fight the Covenant and discover all
of Halo's deep and dark secrets.
Halo had the longest reign at the
top that any game has ever had.
Edge (a multi-format computer and
video game magazine) called it "the
most important launch game for any
console, ever," awarding it a 10 out
of 10 score, and is only the fourth
game to receive a perfect score in the
magazine's 12-year history. GameSpot
awarded Halo a 9.7 out of 10.

of Halo 3 were available in retail

Anticipation for
the game set record highs. Three weeks
before the release, a record setting 1.5
million copies were pre-ordered at a
cost of $49.99 for the regular edition,
and $59.99 for the collector’s edition.
The game sold a reported 2.4 million
copies and earned $125 million within
its first 24 hours of its release. The
sales of Halo 2 out-grossed the film
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's
Chest, the highest grossing release
in entertainment history. Unlike its
predecessor, Halo 2 offered players
the ability to compete with each other
via Xbox Live and compete to be the
best Halo player in the world. After its
opening release, Halo 2 was the most
popular video game on Xbox Live (a

interstellar
war during
the 26th century
between humanity
and the Covenant,
whom after a ten
year war have began
the assault on Earth.
The player assumes the
role of the Master Chief
once again and wages war
in defense of preserving
all of humanity. The
game itself features
weapons, vehicles,
and game play
features that
were not
available in
the previous
games of
the Halo series. The game incorporates
16 weapons, some new, some old,
but all of them have been improved
upon to be more powerful than ever.
There is also 8 vehicles with an ATV
like vehicle, the Mongoose, being the
new addition.
The overall reception of Halo 3
has been astounding. Positive ratings
are across the board for this game.
Metacritic, a site devoted to gamers
and reviews, gave Halo 3 an average
score of 96 out of 100. With praise
like this before its release, it is no
wonder why the 4.2 million copies of
Halo 3 released in the first day ended
up selling out.
With extremely realistic graphics,
enticing new weapons and vehicles,
along with the extremely invigorating
action, it is hard to put the controller
down. Halo 3 raised the bar in terms
of FPS video games and it will be hard
to compete with in the future.
Halo 3 has set a new bench mark
for all video games to strive to and
that only leaves me wondering what
the future will hold.

“Balls of Fury” is
supposedly “a huge
comedy with tiny
balls”. With taglines
like that, how could
you expect this film
to be good? I went to this film with low
expectations and was disappointed
beyond belief. I think the entire theater
laughed once throughout the movie
because the movie was so terrible.
As I sat in the seat, and watched the
blatantly predictable jokes come one
after another, I could literally feel my
brain slip into retardation. The plot
was trash, the actors were garbage and
the production values were pathetic.
The directors of this movie tried
way too hard to make a comedy out
of something that really shouldn’t be
funny.
I pray for all those who are exposed
to this pathetic excuse that critics call
a movie. Save the ten bucks it would
cost to go there and rent Office Space.
At least with that comedy you are
guaranteed a laugh or two.
Evil takes up
residence

directs the third
installment of the
Resident Evil film
franchise based
on the best selling
video games.
For the new film, the earth is
overrun by the undead, and the only
way for people stay alive is to be on the
road and keep on moving, reminiscent
of “The Road Warrior.”
The acting in the movie was good.
It was not award-winning, but good
enough for the genre. The action
in the film kept people on the edge
of their seats and kept the audience
wanting more.
The story in the film it was a little
over the top, some of the characters in
the film want to go to Alaska because
they think there are more human
survivors.
Fans will be pleased with the film
because there are still a lot of elements
from the game that are in the movie. If
you enjoy a good horror movie, film is
worth the price of admission.

Navigating the winding road of scholarships and transfer: A student's experience.
Despite the intimidating transfer
process, understanding the application
requirements and submitting them
before the many deadlines will have a
great impact on university acceptance
and educational success.
With the CSU application
acceptance period just beginning,
and UC applications being accepted
after November 1, students planning
to transfer for the Fall 2008 semester
need to make sure they are fulfilling
their requirements.
If you are like most students, you
have no idea where to start. The most
efficient way to plan out the transfer
process is to meet with a guidance
counselor in the University Transfer
Center (UTC). The Transfer Center
helps students create educational plans
that are goal appropriate. However,
I recommend students first explore
major options with a counselor in the
Career Center, as it will thwart a lot
of confusion about what classes to
enroll in. I took this very advice from
my guidance counselor.
After meeting with Career Services
Coordinator Kit Hudnutt, I learned
how an internship would complement
my major of study. Kit directed me
to meet with Internship Coordinator
Don Pratola who helped me meet the
requirements to become an intern.
After a year of working as an intern
with a media company, the successful
experience gave me confidence to
pursue my career.
Along with providing students with
career options following specific fields
of study, having a major in mind also
helps determine which college best
fits student goals, as not all majors are
offered at every university. Once they
have an idea of where he or she would
like to transfer, and for what major,
counselors are able to guide students
in fulfilling the many different general
education, major-prep and elective
requirements.
One such general education pattern
is the IGETC (Intersegmental General
Education Transfer Curriculum) plan.
Though not required for UC or CSU
admittance, the IGETC allows students
to fulfill lower-division general
education requirements without
having to take additional lowerdivision courses after transferring.
This educational plan works well
for students who are unsure as to
where they would like to transfer. I
especially like this plan because it
allows me to see what requirement
each course fulfills and what I am yet
to complete.
Students studying majors which
require extensive lower-division
preparation, such as nursing or
engineering, need to fulfill major
preparation courses that may not
be included in the IGETC general
education requirements. It is important
to understand that though IGETC is
accepted at every UC, each school has
its specific majors that have substantial
lower-division requirements that may
make an IGETC inappropriate.
Aside from creating an appropriate
and efficient educational plan, it is
vital to carry a balanced schedule that
will allow students to advance their
grade point average. The Transfer
Center recommends that students
enroll in a minimum of twelve to
sixteen units per semester in order to
reach the 60 transferable course units
in a timely manner. It is very common
for students to overwhelm themselves
by taking too many units, especially
with the pressure of paying the bills.
With this, their GPA is negatively
affected, so keep in mind that the
required GPA varies from college to
college and major to major.
I have just given several
recommendations on how to prepare
for transferring, but what do we do
once the application period is here?
Application directions are available
online for CSU at CSUmentor.com
and UC at UCop.edu. Becoming
familiar with these sites and attending
application workshops prepares
students for when it is time to submit
applications. Also, be sure to print out
a copy of your application for personal
records.
Above all else, do not miss the
deadlines. If you plan on mailing
your application, be sure to obtain a
Certificate of Mailing. I am not sure
why, but do not use certified mail.
Procrastinators planning to apply at
9 p.m. on November 31 will be pretty
upset when they find servers jammed
with thousands of other applicants
trying to beat the deadline. Be honest,
accurate and on time.
Finally, you have sent your
application and all you have to do is
await a response, right? Wrong. Don’t
forget to send in your official transcripts
and any letters of recommendation,
portfolios, or other materials that may
be required for admittance.
Once you have completed the
application process, it is then time to
apply for financial aid for the academic
year. Though the Scholarship Office
organizes scholarships awarded to
MCC students from private sources,
“the majority of scholarships are
funded by the MCC Foundation and
are based on academic achievement,”
according to the MCC website. The
first step is to visit the Scholarship
Office in building OC3000. There,
students can speak with Scholarship
Specialist Diane Danielewicz and ask
all they questions they want. Students
will typically be directed to the big
red folder full of scholarship criteria
and flyers. After browsing through
the many scholarship opportunities,
I found that most required me to go
online for more information—typical
right?
Although I found some opportunities
that interest me, I was not prepared
for how time consuming online
applications are. Of course, there
were the basic ‘personal and contact
information’ questions, but why
would these sites need to know my
previous home address (as one site
requested)?
I soon realized that many of the
scholarship websites were just trying
to get my contact information to give
to advertisers who sponsor them, or
so it seemed. After spending over 45
minutes at one website, I gave up. I
understand that scholarship websites
request detailed information about
students’ life so they can pair them
up with an appropriate scholarship
opportunity, but do they really need
to know if I have ever braided my hair
(as yet another site requested)? So I put
up with this part, as I am sure most of
you can relate, I can not afford higher
education on my own.
Onto the next step—do I submit yet?
Of course not. The site then stated that
in order to be eligible, I was required
to visit all of their sponsors’ websites.
I ended up clicking ‘cancel’ after I
realized that there were 142 sponsors. I
was not required to purchase anything,
but visiting 142 websites would have
taken hours.
Frustrated, I went to speak with
Diane of the Scholarship Office. I
questioned the security of scholarship
websites and the reason for all
the advertising. Diane helped me
understand that the sites are mostly
non-profit organizations that are
supported by advertisers. She used
the analogy of watching 20 minutes
of commercials for only 10 minutes
of news. Scholarships are available
through a variety of resources, but
websites are just more time consuming
than most. Though I understand their
reasoning, I was soo completely fed
up with the online scholarship ordeal
that I am sticking to the paper packets
I can pick up from the Scholarship
Office. Unless you have an abundance
of time and patience, I suggest you do
the same.

Voices 2 Action, a MiraCosta
College club at the Oceanside campus,
serves students yearly by finding
solutions to the most pressing concerns
of the student population. V2A
has been active for the last two
years in bringing to light the most
substantial need for change regarding
the student experience. Two years
ago, health care was the number one
issue among students. In response,
V2A hosted a health fair, bringing
in outside organizations that offered
insurance, as well as providing
information regarding medical and
dental coverage.
Last year, the biggest dilemma was
hunger. Addressing the basic need for
a source of food for students lacking
resources, V2A played a pivotal role
by addressing the hunger problem,
and the creation of the Food Bank
at MCC.
Having associations with staff,
faculty, and administrators, the club’s
accomplishments are a measure
of successful communication and
implementation of ideas with beneficial
goals aimed at addressing the needs of
the students.
“It’s all about volunteerism and
trying to resolve issues,” said Carol
Wilkinson, the club advisor. There
are no strict dedication requirements
and the club is not politically oriented.
Involvement includes reaching out
to students and addressing concerns
of the student body as much as
possible within the limits of the club’s
capabilities.
The club president, Cathy Robin,
has been recruiting members and held
V2A’s first meeting on September
28.
“Students who want to make a
change often feel that the task is too
big to do alone,” said Wilkinson.
“Voices to Action educates people
about how to express their issues.”
To find the most severe nemesis
to daily student life, V2A interviews
students, creates comment drop
boxes and lets students gripe on
graffiti boards in an effort to poll for
predicaments. The club was created to
help raise awareness of the number of
issues bothering the student populace
and to help bring about a positive
change that would alleviate some of
the problems.

Question: What G.P.A. do I need to
transfer to a UC school?
Answer: It depends on the particular
college you are applying to, as well as
the individual program (major) you
are interested in. MiraCosta College
has several guaranteed admission
programs with a variety of UC’s
that have a beginning G.P.A. of 2.8.
However, individual majors may have
a higher G.P.A. requirement if they
have more students qualifying than
they have space for. To learn more
about our Guaranteed Admission
programs to the UC’s please stop by
the University Transfer Center in the

Question: Do CSU campuses
require more than two years of high
school foreign language to graduate?
Answer: Some CSU campuses
require foreign language study as a part
of the preparation for certain majors
or for graduation. For example, Cal.
State San Marcos requires students to
demonstrate proficiency in a language
other than English before graduation.
This is usually demonstrated by three
terms of the same foreign language.
San Diego State University on the
other hand does not have a language
requirement to graduate, however
almost half of the majors do. It is best
to consult the campus’ catalog for
major and graduation requirements
and speak to a MCC counselor for any
further questions.
Question: If I am interested in
completing TAG and transferring to
UCSD winter quarter what do I need
to do?
Answer: Transfer guarantee
contracts must be signed and submitted
to UCSD at least one month prior to
the beginning of the admissions period.
The deadline for winter quarter is May
31st. Contracts may not be written for
more than two years in advance of the
transfer quarter.

I have been dating the same girl

We love each other and everything
is great, except that things are
becoming a little mechanical and
repetitive in the bedroom. A lot
of people I know have been using
Viagra just for fun. Do you think
it’s worth it even though I am not
impotent? Does it work for women

aspects of sexual function:
Frequency, firmness and

it almost sounds like a miracle drug,
there are going to be side effects.
Most common are headaches,
nausea, and irritated stomach. After
doing a little research, I found out
that your friends aren’t the only ones
experimenting with Viagra.
Viagra is rapidly moving into the
abusive drug scene, and is being
taken as a party drug along with
other amphetamines. There are a lot
of health issues alongside of abuse,
especially in the gay community.
Viagra is only increasing chances of
HIV, and other sexually transmitted
diseases.
As for women taking the drug,
some doctors have recommended it
for women with sexual dysfunction.
Even though it has sexually enhanced
intercourse for some women, there is
larger group of women who do not
respond as well to it, according to a
spokeswoman from Pfizer at Cnn.
com. For a young guy, I wouldn’t
see it necessary to have to go this
far to become sexually aroused. If
you have a good relationship with
your girlfriend, I’m sure she would
be more than happy to experiment in
the bedroom--naturally.

medicine closet like you’re in your
50’s when you are in the midst of
your sexual prime. Over the last few
years, drugs like Viagra and Cialis
have seen sales triple to men under
the age of 45 looking to gain that
edge in the bedroom or to counter
the effects of other party drugs such
as alcohol and ecstasy.
The issue is not whether or not it
will work. It will. But using drugs
like this recreationally isn’t safe.
We don’t take aspirin if we aren’t in
pain. Why take Viagra if you aren’t
impotent?
While Viagra’s ultimate effect
is to send more blood to the male
organ, it seems to have no parallel
effect on women according to Dr.
Mitra Boolel. According to Dr.
Boolel, “with women, things depend
on a myriad of factors.” So why
risk it? Save it for when you really
need it.

What are some of the reasons
why a guy or girl would watch
porn? Could watching porn hurt a
relationship if one person is against
the idea and the other person is
into it?

I’m sure when
the average person
thinks of porn they
think it is only for men. I honestly
don’t believe the porn industry would
have grown so powerful if men were
the only ones into it. For both men and
women, it is obvious why they watch
porn—to become aroused, as well as
entertained.
From my experience it was a big
deal in middle school to see a porno or

seen it once you’ve seen enough. Back
then the boys, and even the girls, were
more immature about it as well as
embarrassed. I’m sure people have
become a little more mature, but for
most people who go on porn sites,
and watch it, I can’t imagine that
they have no embarrassment, even
just a little. To the feminists who
believe that porn depicts women as
sex objects, I would have to jump off
that bandwagon because it could also
go the other way—men could be seen
as sex objects as well. Nonetheless,
if you have a girlfriend, I believe you
should not have to go to porn to get
your kicks. If you are in a relationship
and you both get off on porn, then
good for you, but the majority of
relationships don’t work that way.
When a guy who is in a relationship
watches porn it makes the girl feel a
little inadequate.
I don’t mind if my boyfriend were
to watch porn as long as he doesn’t
make it a hobby, and doesn’t try to
hide it. Unless you think porn can
damage your relationship, there is
no harm in venturing into things
your boyfriend may find arousing
especially if you’re the one to benefit
from it.
Boy:
There are
two sides to
this argument.
Person A will tell you that
pornography in a marriage is
therapeutic. Men are going to
have sexual fantasies about other
women regardless of their situation.
They’re better in virtual reality than
actual reality.
Person B will tell you that
psychological research says
pornography increases marital
distress, decreased intimacy,
decreased sexual satisfaction, and
most importantly, infidelity. Person
B sounds like they are going to be
far better off. While men’s minds
may wander often, the consensus in
the psychological community is that
porno is ultimately detrimental to a
monogamous relationship. So turn
off your computer screen, pervert.
