Letter from the Prez
President, Keith Schniering
Greetings!!!! I know you find it hard to
believe that I’m actually writing a column
for the newsletter. You can – or can’t –
thank VP Sue for this, as she is the one
who has given me the hard times for not
writing. Anyhow it looks like a good year
is starting off on the snow front. Jackson
Hole has a 31-inch base and just
received 7 more inches over the weekend – for a total of 56
inches so far this year. Telluride has a 19-inch base and
received 13 inches over the weekend. Things are looking
up for the Western trips.
Also don’t forget that we have some trips scheduled for the
Midwest: like ski/board in Indianhead in January; X-C/
snowshoe in Wautoma in February; and Winter Carnival in
the U.P. in March. Snow accumulations are predicted to be
normal this winter – which should bode well for these trips.
Here is what the Farmers’ Almanac is saying for the upper
Midwest region:
Todd and Marta Hoelter volunteered their home for the
Sitzmark Halloween Party. It was rather last-minute which
may explain a handful of attendees. Regardless, they had a
great time making the most of the haunting holiday.
Annual Weather Summary: Nov. 2010 to Oct. 2011
Winter will be colder than normal, especially in the west,
where temperatures will be 2 to 3 degrees below normal,
on average. Most days in January will be cold, especially in
the west, with other cold periods in mid-December and
early to mid-February. Precipitation and snowfall will be
near normal, with the snowiest periods in mid-December,
late February, and mid-March.
Come out and attend some of the meetings to reconnect
with your Sitzmark friends! Sign-up for a weeklong or
weekend trip! This will help all of us to get through the
winter with a great outlook. If there are any activities that you would like the club to
support, please come to a meeting or contact one of the
board members. We are happy to discuss any of your ideas
for activities and/or future trips.
Writing this wasn’t too hard. Maybe I’ll even write one for
the next newsletter…I said maybe...The Prez
Bar Hop at Lindy’s Landing in Wauconda
Ten Sitzmarkers (past and current) descended on Lindy’s
Landing last Friday for the monthly bar hop. Jeanne and Sue
arrived around 7:10 immediately followed by Dawn & Keith.
Shortly thereafter Mark & Chris, Tari, and Dave B. arrived.

catch up with folks who
we hadn’t seen since
2009! We all enjoyed
great conversations,
food, and beverages.
BYE BYE LIVER at the PUB Theater

What is Bye Bye Liver you ask? It’s the title of a little known
play in its 4th year of running at the PUB Theater in Chicago
on N. Lincoln Ave. I saw the play about a year ago as part
of a friend’s birthday party. Afterwards I thought, “This would
make a great outing for Sitzmark!” So I organized an outing
for 15, with a pre-show dinner at Wishbone, also on N. Lincoln
Ave. On October 23, ten of us made it for dinner at 5-ish. After
having a tasty meal we walked a block to the FIZZ bar, which
is the same building as the theater and ordered some drinks
while waiting for the rest of our group to arrive. At 7:30 we all
headed upstairs, drinks in hand, to the small theater area for
the 8:00 show to begin.
Our group was seated in the front 2 rows of tables by the
stage. Excellent!
The show consists of a
small group of young,
talented performers – who
came up with a creative and
hilarious interactive drinking
play. Anyone who has been
to a bar can relate to the
variety of funny situations
the cast performs. To add
to the hilarity, there are
drinking contests in between
each skit which pit audience
members against
performers and/or select
audience participants
against each other. From
our group, both Dave
Barboro and Dan Harkin
were selected for some very
humorous Q&A games. The
show lasted about an hour –
we all were greatly entertained. Some of us were still in
tears from all the laughing! After the play we headed back
downstairs to the bar to enjoy some appetizers, cocktails,
and mingling with the cast.
Everyone agreed it was a great time – full of laughs and
fun memories. I would like to thank those who attended –
making it a really special night: Dawn & Keith, Dan &
Marlo, Marie & her friend Tom, Barb, Rick, Dave & Betty,
and Carol. (To Jeanne: sorry you had to cancel lastminute, maybe next year.)
