A big THANK YOU to Ron Stierle and his crew for all the hard work you’ve done to make this happen. It was great to have our midsummers night dance and not have to use the port-o-potties! A reminder that our next membership meeting will be on Sunday September 27th. We are holding it a little late to ensure we can gather all the information we need to present concerning a possible building. Don’t forget our club picnic on the 9th. This is free to all members. Food will be available for purchase. The Board is in need of some assistance. If you would like to fill in as Secretary or Entertainment chair, please contact any BOD member asap. We really need a little bit of help. We have Oktoberfest and we are hoping to make this our biggest one yet. We are looking for a few strong men, or some generic teens to help us prepare for the event. We need help with set up on Friday and tear down Sunday/Monday. If you can help, please contact Stefi Kirsch 720-841-2570. T.E.V. This money goes towards our future. I know that many of you have helped in the past, but we still have a future. We need your help. We need your muscles to move tables, tents set up, and make sure lights go where they need to go. If you don’t have a lot of muscle we can always use your brain. You can always call me to see what we have open for you to volunteer for. This isn’t just for members. If you are a non-club member, you can sign up and get all the perks of volunteering: Free entry to the Oktoberfest, and a meal with a drink. Now is your chance to get to know our members. Steafanie Kirsch 720-841-2570 [email protected] 1 www.eventsincolorado.com Thank you to our sponsors GACC Prost Brewing Company Andechs Schwans Rocky Mountain Coolers Events in Colorado and of course a big THANK YOU to all our volunteers! Members and Non-members alike Congratulations to our two couples who were married in July. Jeff and Brigitte Johnson (right). Klaus and Kathy Matten (left). May you be blessed with many years of happiness. 2 T.E.V. Edelweiss Schuhplattlers A contingent of Schuhplattlers spent part of the summer break Einzelplattling in preparation for Gaufest which was held in Milwaukee, July 30th through August 2nd. This Echo went to print too early to let you know how these plattlers fared in competition; but we’ll get that information to you in next month’s Echo. Nineteen plattlers represented Edelweiss Denver as well as several guests from Bavaria who joined us for the event in Milwaukee—Sepp and Leni Kaindl from our Patenverein in Dießen, Max and Christa Haas from Geltendorf, and Erika and Andreas Schreiber from Munich. Nine couples performed an Ehrentanz on behalf of the club. Thank you Onkel Sepp and Terry for playing for us! We’ve got a few Oktoberfests on our September schedule. If you are up in the mountains, please join us in Keystone on September 5th and Breckenridge September 11th -13th as we bring a bit of Bavaria to the mountain folks. Don’t forget Deutscher Tag on September 5th and 6th in Centennial again! Schuhplattler Birthdays this month: Kevin Rase Rex Lane Renate Davison Sawyer Koopmeiners Monika Ledford Edith Gorner Senior CitizensTop of the Hill Congratulations to Jeff and Brigitte on their July wedding! It was a gorgeous day for their beautiful ceremony and the reception was high-spirited and fun. We wish you both many years of happiness. Thank everyone that showed up for our picnic. We had about 50 people there. Very happy everyone could show up. Our next meeting will e at the Country Buffet at 1:00 p.m. Please don’t forget about Oktoberfest. I know there will be lots of fun things planned, and I hope to see you all there. Our first practice after a condensed summer break will be August 13th at 7pm at the Morrison Pavilion. Please feel free to come out and say hello. There isn’t a prettier place to hang out and we’d love the company. We’ll be dusting the cobwebs off our dances as we plan for the busy upcoming Oktoberfest season which kicks off with the club’s Oktoberfest on August 29th and 30th. Join us for some great food, great beer and great music for dancing…and bring all your friends! And if you haven’t seen the upgrades to the Pavilion, you really need to come out and see the fruits of some very dedicated workers’ efforts. We are very fortunate to have some extremely dedicated and talented people pouring so much of their time and energy in to something we all can enjoy. Thank you to you and to your families for sharing you for this club project! Elisabeth Burbach 303-288-9479 3 Schützengruppe Our little group doesn’t seem to be able to get together much any more. With Jeff Johnson returning from his honeymoon, Ed Volk preparing goodies for Oktoberfest, and the Dodd family planning a move, life seems to be very busy this summer. What we really need is more members to actually make the shoots so we have a reason to get together and practice again. If you are good with an air gun (or any gun really) and want to join our group, please contact Amy Dodd at 303-378-7324. We need more members. In 1812, through his efforts, King Maximilian I. Joseph brought an agricultural festival to the lower Danube area for the citizens of Straubing promoting “welfare and happiness for Bavarians”. Initially the Straubingers had to alternately share hosting the festival with their neighbor cities Passau and Landshut. Therefore, in 1898 the Straubingers decided to organize their own festival. Even back then, 25,000 visitors came to the city of 17,000 inhabitants to celebrate. Today, Straubing is a thriving city in the heart of Lower Bavaria, carrying the official title “The City of Science”. The Gäuboden Festival with its consumer exhibition became a mega-event unrivaled in Bavaria. This year, during the eleven days of the festival between August 08th and August 18th, 1.3 million visitors are expected to enjoy the beer-tents and carnival rides. This year in celebration of this special anniversary, the festival goes back to its roots 200 years ago. There will be a historic area on the festival grounds, where visitors will be able to experience the flair of the good ol’ days: a special beer-tent providing traditional Bavarian folk music “Gstanzl-Singen” and Bavarian dances such as link “Schuhplatteln” ende link accompanied by brass bands. There will even be an entire ox on a skewer to provide the guests’ with a unique culinary experience. Yesterday’s carnival rides will excite today’s visitors: the “Toboggan” for instance, a 52 meter wooden slide (Europe’s highest traveling slide), the Witches’ Swing, a nostalgic ghost train, and to top it all off (literally), the historic wooden Ferris wheel that made its debut in 1900. Die Volkstanzgruppe It’s hard to believe summer will soon be over, but since the weather is just great in September, It’s a perfect time for Octoberfest. We hope to see everyone at the TEV Edelweiss’s Oktoberfest and have been trying to schedule some programs; working around everyone’s schedule is a challenge. Of course we will dance for the Foundations’ German Day on September 5th and Parker’s Fest September 19th in the afternoon. Last we were blown off the earth with a late afternoon rain/hail wind storm. You might go visit Don Hessler at Denver Health Medical center between July 27 and maybe the 30th. He really enjoys the company and it gives Lorraine a break. Greeley has had to move the date for their Fest to Oct. 3rd; the vendors were all going to the Brew fest. We need YOUR help! We are trying to organize a social event for September, but it is Oktoberfest season. If any members would like to step forward and organize a social, please contact Amy Dodd 303-378-7324 4 For Rent Our beautiful pavilion is up for rent. It’s the perfect spot for weddings, graduation, retirement, family reunions, or any other celebration. Their address is 2 Twilight Dr. in Lakewood. Until we are together again...Helau u. Alaaf!!! ~Corinne Anaya Thank You Ron Stierle! We would like to thank everyone who helped make our wedding on July 18, 2015, such a glorious day, especially Ron Stierle. A year ago, when we began planning our day, Ron promised us one restroom. Not only did he surpass his promise and have two beautifully completed restrooms, but he did this despite many setbacks. Ron worked tirelessly to complete not only both restrooms, but also numerous modifications to the pavilion, and made sure countless other details were taken care of right down to the morning of the wedding. Thanks also to the Stierle family members who helped and gave their family time, so that Ron could complete these additions. Klaus and Kathy Matten T.E.V.
