BELLA COOLA AGENC Y
The principal Reserves of the l,ella Coola AgellcV were visited by the
Commission and meetings with the titdians held during the herioxl of August 16th
to September 5th, 1913, 1-1r . Agent Fottgner being subsequently exa>»i~w,,1 at
considerable length and on ,~veral occasions as to the Reserves of the rlgetlc .y,
,conditions obtaining thereon, ank; hnd requirements of the Indians .
It is to be noted in connectio :, with the .l.lella Coola Agency, the Indian
population of which is 1,i11, that the characteristics of the Indians and their
occupations of maintenance are xviclely dissimilar in different sections, the natives
of the :~oastal ten-itory being fishermcn almost exclusively and their land
rec.ltiirenneltts fisltinn stations of sniall area, village sites and rescrvatiotts requisite
for wood suhply ; while the Agency population of the Interior, now that lumtting
and trapping are no longer to b e depended tipon for livelihood, are farmcTs and
stoc.kruen who have made a hromising beginning in their new fields of activity .

Crown Granted at the ti me of its tentative allotnieitt,1es .5enetl the total Agency
area bv_ 4 .075.00 acres . There are contained in the 46 new Reserves established
by the Co mmission 7,05 0.( 0 acres, making a net area increase for the Agency
of 2,97 7 .60 acres, and givit ;g a ne w total Reserves area of 25 ,603.53 acres, or
1 6 .99 acres per capita .

In virtue of powers and instructions from the Governments of the
Dominion of Canada and the Province of British Columbia contained in
Commissions issued under the Great Seal of Canada respectively on the 23rd
(lay of April, in the year of Our Lord one thousand

and the 7th day of April, in the year of Our Lord one thousand nine hundred
and . fourteen, to us directed, authorizing and empowering us as a Commission to
fix, determine and establish the number, extent and locality of the Reserves to be
set aside, allowed, established and constituted for the use and benefit of the
Indians of the Province of British Columbia, ive, the undersigned, having in each
