Our Republican ladies groups from Montgomery County represented well! This summer our U.S. National debt stood at $18.233 trillion dollars. For those who are tax paying citizens you are each in debt by $154,239 and per citizen it is a debt of $56,822. Senators Cruz and Cornyn both voted yes on the Iran Nuclear Pact. This will allow Congress to review and possibly change a pending nuclear contract in which Iran would disarm its nucleararms programs in exchange for a lifting of global sanctions from its economy. Sen. Cruz voted no and Sen. Cornyn voted yes on the 10 year GOP budget. This would cut personal and corporate tax rates, raise military spending, slash domestic spending, repeal but not replace the 2010 health law. Sen. Cruz voted no and Sen. Cornyn voted yes on to accept without challenge President Obama’s veto of a measure on union organizing. Sen. Cruz filed S. Res 238 defining the start of Congress 60 day review period and detailing flaws within the submittal of the agreement of the Iran Nuclear Agreement. Congressman Kevin Brady passes his HR 1105 Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015. The tax currently takes over 40% of assests after the death of a small business owner. HR 2 the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 was passed and signed by President Obama. This will allow doctors to continue to see Medicare patients. Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 40 which preempts regulation of oil and gas activity at the city level and resides that duty with the state, and ensures that any local regulation of surface activity is commercially reasonable and does not effectively prohibit an oil and gas operation. HB 1 will provide $840 million for border security and 250 new state troopers. Education is budgeted for 80,000 new students into public education. TRS insurance premiums will not be raised or any benefits cut. There are 230,000 retires. January 1, 2016 you can legally have your handgun license and open carry! The U.S. District Judge Lee Yeakel ordered Texas not to enforce a rule that abortion clinics not meet hospital like surgical standards so now an El Paso abortion clinic will reopen. Presidents Message Welcome New Members by Michelle Martin Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed the break! What break??!! LCARW has been hard at work since our last newsletter in May. You may have seen us picking up trash along Hwy 105 on May 2nd, as part of our Adopt-a-highway program with TxDot. A small group of 5 members and spouses managed to pick up 8 bags of litter before we called it a day due to the heat. We will plan another one once the temps cool down. We then hosted the winners of the “My American Hero” essay contest, as well as the scholarship winners for MISD and WISD. It was a packed house and lots of fun. This is one of our favorite programs. Thank you to all who attended and helped honor these creative minds. June was a busy month planning for the “Let Freedom Ring” fundraiser that was held July 19th. We had close to 300 attend this casual, fun event chaired by 3rd VP Ways and Means chairperson, Sheri Kennedy. Our entertainer, Larry Gatlin, did not disappoint. There were songs, jokes and just some good ole story telling. Thank you to all who attended the event, sponsored it, donated items, and raised those hands during the live auction!! Jr. Mock and Commissioner Mike Meador were a perfect pair for delicious grilled burgers and Mikey Fries! It was a great success because of our wonderful members! A HUGE thank you to all who volunteered during the event! The funds raised allow LCARW to do all the great community projects that support the conservative, patriotic Republican way! But most importantly, it helps us elect and keep Republican candidates in elected offices. Please join us for the next general meeting Thursday, September 3rd. This is our big Literacy program. Our author and guest speaker is Kathy Murphy. She is the founder of Pulpwood Queens, a 700 chapter book club that meets both nationally and internationally. Kathy’s fascinating life story from publisher’ sales rep to hairdresser to author of “The Pulpwood Queens’ Tiara-wearing, Book-sharing Guide to Life” is now being made into a movie by Dreamworks. So wear your tiara and leopard print and join this fun program. Again Barnes and Noble will be on hand with conservative books to purchase. You may donate a book in someone’s honor, memory to a local school or county library, or just keep for your personal reading. Reservations are needed by August 27th. [email protected] Thanks to the hard work of our nomination committee, we will introduce our nominated slate of officers for 2016 that day as well. Mark your calendars!! Don’t forget our October 1st general meeting is in the evening!! Invite your coworkers and friends that can’t attend the day meetings!!
